  • How often do you work your upper body with dumbbells vs barbells or machines?
  • Not to put a downer on your weight loss, but almost all of my whooshes have been followed by a slight uptick, not all the way back to pre woosh, but I would an increase in the scale over the next couple days.
  • How long have you been gaining weight at 1.5 lb/week?
  • Have you had your body fat checked? It's certainly possible that you could get to your goal and still not be satisfied. Have you been doing resistance training thorougout your loss? Focusing on body comp might end up resulting in better results than dropping a few more pounds.
  • And yet, I haven't seen anyone at the gym without a mask. They are cleaning the equipment. So what is the value of closing places that based on the science, are low risk to spread? I though decisions were being made based on facts and science.
  • Well, you've got a couple things. You lost a good deal of weight very quickly so you skin hasnt had time to adjust. Also, generally you lose more lean mass the fast you lose overall weight. And your mind may need to adjust to what you look like now.
  • The biggest issue for me has always been soda. For a long time, I wouldn't let myself buy it at the grocery to put in the fridge. I would have to walk out of the house to the 7/11 a block away to get it. Eventually I started getting the 7oz cans instead and only keeping one in the fridge. There is value in conquering your…
  • Just curious, which of those did you enjoy the most? For me, probably would have been the cookie dough 😉
  • If you only pee when you're excited, you're either a very happy individual or you have serious kidney issues. 😜
  • Are you sure about that? Not that the rule doesn't apply outside Chicago, but that there is a "rest of the state" outside Chicago 😜
  • Semi planned. It's on the fly, but breakfast and lunch especially are a rotation of 4 or 5 options which are roughly the same macros.
  • I'd spend some time at maintenance, reinforcing habits of what it's like to eat at that level, which is going to eventually be your long term goal. Increasing directly from deficit to surplus can sometimes trigger going back to old habits with an excuse of "but it's ok, I'm supposed to be gaining"
  • I was going in the wrong direction before Covid started. But working from home, going out for a walk once a day to avoid cabin fever turned into 2 walks and 3 walks turned into longer walks (now 6-8 miles a day). Eating all meals at home as opposed to out has meant smaller portions and more precision since I can use the…
  • Wasnt worried so much as trying to figure out how large "normal" variations can be.
  • To those that track RHR, like with a Fitbit, what do you consider a deviation from norm which might trigger you to say "hey, I need a rest day" or "maybe I'm not getting enough sleep" mine has ranged from 45-47 for 3 months and recently jumped to and held 50 for several days.
  • You said this would be like a mini honeymoon. Do you think he will see it that way, in terms of it being like doing the things you might do on a vacation, where it might be OK to splurge a bit. Or will it be more like going back to what he expected normal practice might be once you are back together long term?
  • I would surmise that 50-70% of people that do weight loss WITHOUT surgery gain much of their weight back after 10 years too. It's not easy to do. The trick is to figure out habits in the eating and exercise areas that you feel you can maintain for those 10 years. Dieting hard doesn't build stable maintainable habits and my…
  • Most people define set point as something that is physiological and a hindrance to losing weight. But what I think you are referring to is more habitual, the point at which your habitual average eating habits and average daily calorie burn are the same.
  • All statistics that are used to drive a decision about something (think political surveys to predict election results) have a margin of error. BMI vs BF is something I consider BMI having a higher margin of error, but an easier method to measure.
  • I would say don't lose weight too fast for another reason. You got to your current weight by bad habits that have built up and been reinforced over a long period of time. Success is not measure just by losing weight, but staying there, which means rewriting those habits. That takes time. Let it take time so those new…
  • I only weigh in on days that end in "day".
  • I agree with muffins and bagels, but not with pork. At least pork loin, or even pulled pork on occasion when I've had a little more burn, but I could see pork bacon/sausage being an issue.
  • This is critical for me, as it helps me turn my mind off by distracting it. It's always sports talk radio podcasts. I've been very much helped by getting myself to bed at the same time every night.
  • I weigh daily because then I will see a useful trend because there are more data points. I tend to look at month view trends as opposed to week ones. And to me, weighing more gives less power to any single number because it's one of many.
  • Are you looking for tracking running or developing a running workout schedule?
  • You should eat your exercise calories. The issue is generally figuring out an accurate count of the exercise calories.
  • I just checked and I used 4.2 GB of wifi over the course of about a month.

  • One thing that had worked for me was to cut the size of my soda servings. Psychologically, a 12 oz can is the same as a 20 oz bottle, it's one sitting of Coke. So even though it means keeping soda in the house, I've switched to the baby 7.5 oz cans and it's helped.
  • I think it also depends on the size of the "cheat". Let's assume you are accurately tracking calories in and out and are trying to lose 1 lb per week (-500 calories per day). Let's say a cheat adds 300 calories. What your doing is still in a deficit that day, just no as big of one as you hoped. If a cheat brings you over…
