Ditch thinking about your macros in terms of percents. Eat less than 25-30g of carbs per day. Eat at least, or more, protein somewhere around 0.75g/lb bodyweight (+/-, depending on activity level, etc). Eat the rest of your calorie allotment in fat, up to where you don't feel like you're starving. MFP, unless you pay for…

This thread enrages me because it's about 70% stupid myths, and about 20% people who think true things are stupid myths, and 10% people who pedantically refuse to understand the actual intention behind the phrase "muscle weighs more than fat".

I think it's more apt to say we are just coming to finally realize that excess calories make us fat, and a diet rich in sugar tends to lead to that, as a spiking/crashing blood sugar level tends to exaggerate hunger signals.

To share my personal experience: I always had dry skin on my legs and on my elbows, worsening in winter. I've been strictly following a ketogenic eating habit for the past week and it has all but vanished. Whether that's the increased fat intake or the fact that I drink a lot more water when I eat keto (I find it easier to…

Fat is fine, fat isn't the issue. If ice cream could be made without sugar, it would be fine. Sugar is one of the things that Keto focuses against. Keto is a hard mindset for many to get around, as we've been brainwashed since childhood to think fat makes you fat.

As for some of my favorite Keto recipes: http://www.myfoodchannel.com/cauliflower-pizza-crust/ http://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/2012/10/brazilian-shrimp-stew-moqueca-de.html http://thenourishedcaveman.com/shrimp-and-bacon-skillet/ http://lowcarbcoach.com/coconut-butter-fat-bombs/…

That's grams. 84g protein, 87g fat, 20g carbs. That'd be something like CPF 5%/30%/65% of a 1200 calorie diet, which is pretty standard for Keto. To OP: Those numbers look ok, assuming you are a very small person. 1200 calories isn't much, but that's coming from me, a 6'7" 285lb man. If you aren't a small person, then you…

If you were closer to 100KG, this would be aggressive, but feasible. You could probably manage it, but it would be very difficult, and you would be unlikely to maintain the loss, as 4 weeks of starving would result in a hard bounce in the amount you'd eat once the restriction period was over.

came here JUST to paste this.

Came here JUST to say that.

Every second Sunday, I grill 10 boneless skinless chicken breasts with a sprinkling of coarse salt and minced garlic. Cook 3.75 cups of brown rice in 6.5 cups of water. When rice is done, I will add in 1 cup of frozen green peas. When cool, I divide the rice mixture up into 10 equal portions using my food scale, and put 1…

Dr Oz is horrible, but Garcinia is safe. It also has zero effect except to be a tasty ingredient in some Indian dishes.

Gluten is a protein in wheat. It, along with glutenin, are what give a wheat dough its stretchy texture. In some people with diseases like celiac, it causes severe GI distress.

I know this hasn't been your experience, but from what I've read, an excess of visceral fat is usually easier to metabolize than sub-q fat. Sub-q fat plays a role in long term storage, but visceral fat is more metabolically active and plays a shorter-term energy storage role. This is from what I've read in several…

Without a thyroid, or with one that doesn't work, like mine, you want your TSH, which is the hormone they generally gauge levels from, to be well in the low end of the acceptable range. Mid or high end of the range will often leave you feeling like crap and gaining weight. I pushed my doctor to keep edging my synthroid up…

They're mostly snouts and entrails.

I was being tongue in cheek and facetious. I am aware of all of those things. Most people I know who are vegetarian are trenditarians, and don't do the proper research to find out how to eat a diet our bodies aren't ideally adapted for and how to make up for what a diet will lack when you eliminate meat and end up sick and…

I'm the exact opposite. I was at a 2 month stall and started running on the treadmill again, and it's started falling off (4lbs this week, time to readjust).

You'd be hostile, too, if you were vitamin B, and iron deficient. Imagine seeing everyone eating delicious food and you're there with your couscous and tabouli smoothie. Hostility.

its not what you eat. it's how much. I never eat to satisfaction because once I open a bag of chips, i would have to finish it, regardless of size. but I can eat chips and chocolate and pop and pizza. Just within moderation.

Someone's a sensitive sally. Honestly, if you think you're eating at a deficit, and you're not losing weight the options are that you haven't given it enough time or you're not eating at enough of a deficit for your particular situation. Not to be rude, but it's highly unlikely that you're eating only 1100 calories if…

When one is driving a car (inarguably a machine) 100% of the gasoline is not converted to forward motion. To say that because our bodies aren't 100% efficient makes them not machines is a nonsensical statement.

This. It's used to treat hyperthyroid because the normal solution to hyper is to either shut down or surgically remove the thyroid gland entirely and put the patient on sythroid as a replacement.

As long as you are continuing to work with medical staff and aren't feeling too bad, I think you're doing great, and an inspiration. My only concerns would be: 1. Obsession turning to eating disorder. You have to be sure you know why you're doing what you're doing, and ensure it's in the best interest of your health. Talk…

I just realized that Sir Mixalot encourages the idea of spot reduction. "You can do side bends or situps, but please don't lose that butt". Implying that exercises target loss in certain areas.

If one could perfectly gauge your daily calorie burn at rest, along with the calorie burn of exercise, as well as the calorie content obtained from the food you eat, then yes, what you suggest (eating back exercise calories) would be the correct course. Since we (humans) are terrible at calculating all of those messy…

Nobody overreacts to the word "sugar" except when someone tries to claim that fruit sugar is somehow better for you than table sugar. The sugars, in and of themselves, are the same, nutritionally. Also, while you're right that there's a lot of sarcasm on the boards, the reason for that is that we all hear the same silly…

Yes, but it wasn't the coffee and tea that made them skinny.. It was the fact that they drank coffee all day without eating. Coffee and cigarettes are a common replacement for food, and will leave you underweight and sick.
