  • I don't really weigh myself... like, ever. But when I do, I usually have clothes and shoes on. Not like I'm ashamed of my body; I just don't like weighing myself. Okay maybe a little ashamed, but that's sexism for you. Plus I don't own a scale, and they frown on you walking around naked at the gym. lol
  • I made it my New Years resolution to only drink once a week. I used to work at a wine shop, so I got accustomed to drinking more and walking off the calories. Now I have a desk job, and I can't drink like I used to. I'm not an alcoholic or anything, but once you get in the wine culture, it's hard to stop completely. Plus…
  • Whoa this thread is unbelievable. I know I'm late to the party, but part of the reason I wear baggy/loosely fitting clothes to work out in is because I don't want any "attention" from male gym users. And why if there is a crowd of men around the stretching floor, I scale back my yoga practice. It's not that I'm ashamed of…
  • Yesssssss. Oddly enough, when I was first trying to lose more weight per week, I put on pounds. Funny how our bodies crave sustainability over drastic measures. When I scaled it back, I saw better changes!
  • Congrats on quitting smoking and drinking!!! Those are amazing accomplishments.
  • It got easier for me when I started sleeping more and more regularly. I'm still really bad about my sleep schedule, but food tracking was nearly impossible when I was substituting food for a good night's sleep. Take care of yourself!!!
  • Biggest tip someone gave me: Don't beat yourself up. We all slip up and fall off the wagon; the difference between success and failure is what you do when you're down. Love yourself; your body is unique and beautiful right now. (Did I take this advice? Not necessarily. I still beat myself up about minor slip-ups, and…
  • See it may seem unnecessary to you, but to some people (especially beginners) it can be fulfilling and encouraging to track. I'm an achievement hunter who enjoys tracking because it feels like I've mastered something; the same reason I like playing bonus missions on video games. It's a personal preference, but you're…
  • OP can't possibly be talking about net calories... She'd be dead by now. 0_o
  • I don't think they're a waste, per se, but like anything in life, it's what you put into it. I find it easier to do things on my iPhone and log my exercise manually to MFP, while my coworker uses a FitBit to do the same thing. He's a runner, so it makes more sense to him, whereas I mostly use elliptical/stair climber and…
  • Yeah, it's been pretty bad with my Fitbit... I feel bad because my mom sent me hers she wasn't using so she asks me how I like it, and I've been lying and saying it's great... Really I rely more on MFP to get the job done. FitBit isn't as "smart" technology as they'd like to claim. Again, that's just my experience.
  • I think she's asking about negative calories. It's dangerous to think this way... I'm around -600, meaning that MFP allows for ~1400 rather than the original 2000/day. But if I focus too much on how many calories I'm burning, I find I stress myself out trying to make the numbers match up. Better, I think, to eat what feels…
  • Building muscle burns more calories!! I used to think the more cardio, the better, but regular weight lifting is good for your body - plus you build endurance, and that makes each workout a little easier than the one before. I personally like doing a circuit, but I don't keep to a strict "arms day, legs day" schedule. I…
  • YES. I agree on so many levels. When I was teaching middle school at a public school in Baltimore, I saw that the kids were eating crap every single day. (Not to mention the water quality; I had to bring a Brita to school with me.) How can we expect kids to function well if we're feeding them cardboard?
  • Hi Grace! While I'm not a nutritionist or anything, I've been on MFP for more than a year and I find it does help me in being mindful of what I eat and how often I work out. If you'd like to become friends, we can, but again, I'm not a professional and if I give you advice it's not intended to be medical or professional.…
