  • This happened to me. Over a year and a half I went from 230 to 160. That was A LOT of work. Tracking activity on my Garmin, getting extra steps in, weighing/measuring EVERYTHING that went into my mouth, counting calories... It was seriously an obsession and I was exhausted by it all. So a took a break before trying for my…
  • When I'm not taking my meds (Wellbutrin in particular), I graze pretty much nonstop. However, when I am on meds, I really do forget to eat sometimes. Part of it is that that particular medicine is known to decrease appetites. Also, when I'm on my meds (I'm bipolar), I feel better and have lots of energy. I finally get…
  • I have been diagnosed with Bipolar, Anxiety, and PTSD, so I have trouble on the super emotional days, as well. Honestly, I have to force myself to get out of the house. A walk around the block, even when it's super cold out, does wonders for me. Sometimes I'll have a cup of flavored coffee, as that tends to cater to my…
  • 5'5" 31F, went from 230 to low-mid 160s in two years using only MFP. TRUST THE PROCESS!!!!
  • When I've had trouble being med-compliant compliant, my appetite has sky rocketed. When I consistently take my meds (Wellbutrin / buproprian in particular) my appetite decreases significantly! Never took note of any appetite changes when I was on fluoxetine. Haven't seen any discernable changes in weight or appetite with…
  • I'm 5'5" with a goal of 140. Started at 230 and currently sit in the 160-165 range.
  • I am dying to get below 160. I keep getting close, then lose focus and go back up. Now that my TOM is wrapping up, I'm getting back to tight weighing and logging. Once I get into the 150s, I'm redoing my driver's license! My photo was taken when I was 230, so I am super ready to get rid of that picture.
  • I like to do an every other day cycle, primarily to avoid injury. Slowly increase your mileage every week. While the PT test will time you, working on your longer distance endurance helps immensely.
  • Definitely watch your calorie intake, but make sure you're running, too. Only being within weight standards isn't enough. And from my own Navy boot experience in 2007, don't wait until then to get in regs. It's a stressor you don't need on top of everything else. I got IT'd more, all RDC eyes were on me during PT, and chow…
  • The picture on the left was taken a few days ago, and is almost 70# down from the picture on the right (taken January 2016).
  • I started out with a 4" difference at 230#, and now have a 5.3" difference at 160#. The difference, though, has fluctuated up and down over the last 22 months. Hoping the difference is larger when I get to my goal of 140#...
  • I'm down about 70 pounds in 21 months (20 more to go until goal!), and my appetite has DEFINITELY gone down in general. I still have random days where I want to eat ALL THE THINGS, but for the most part it doesn't take much to fill me up anymore.
  • I've never had an artist use numbing cream because it can affect the outcome of the tattoo. Also, pro tip - NEVER drink alcohol prior to getting a tattoo. Any benefits of reducing pain will be lost to the increase of blood loss. Alcohol (or medications/drugs with similar effects) thins your blood, and if the artist can…
  • These will probably be my most painful tattoos. I was with my best friend when she got one tattoo on the top of her foot and she had to keep taking breaks. Feet tattoos are INCREDIBLY painful. And yes, arm tattoos are a piece of cake. None of mine hurt.
  • I've got probably eight tattoo ideas lined up, but this one is one of my favorites. This is to commemorate my time in the Navy. "Rooster on the right, never lose a fight. Pig below the knee, good luck at sea." "Hold Fast" is generally done on the knuckles (it's about never letting go of the line, no matter what," but I…
  • I agree with gems74. Small, attainable goals. When I started January 1st, 2016, I was staring down the barrel of 90+ lbs to lose. That is daunting, to say the least. I quickly realized, through the advice of others here, that I shouldn't try to tackle the thing as a whole or put it on a timeline. I broke it up into 10 lb…
  • Our family does something similar! No appetizers, my husband and 7yo share a meal, I share a meal with our 3yo and 2yo, and no desserts. Saves calories AND money!
  • Recommendations are above 1200 net for women and 1500 net for men.
  • Agree with all of the above but would like to add that taking 250mg of magnesium every day (per my doctor's advice) has reduced my chocolate cravings. I still definitely fit a small amount in every week. :)
  • 5'5", started at 230# Jan 1st 2016. CW 169#, GW 140# (but considering an UGW of 125#). CICO is the way to go. I weigh my food with a digital scale and track calories burned with a Garmin vivosmart hr.
  • I talked about my weight loss to a select group of people last year, but rarely talk to anyone about it this year. In general, I don't like it to be the main topic of conversation, so I don't bring it up. At the beginning, some tried to be my "food police", and that taught me to be careful who to tell.
  • My husband uses coconut milk and I use almond milk (or whole milk on run days), then we both sweeten with Stevia.
  • I am in a C25K program through my park district. It meets Saturday mornings, and I do my "homework" on my own Tuesdays and Thursdays after work. I love it! When I'm done with this class, I'm going to join a HIIT class, also through the park district. Way cheaper than many of the local gyms.
  • Your weekends could be cancelling out your deficit across the week. I second to tighten up your logging.
  • Add me if you'd like. I'm a married 30yo F in Chicago, work FT, and have three girls under 6 (incl a special needs 3yo). Started at 230 in January 2016 and currently mid-170s. Goal is 140 for now, will reassess when I get there. Most of my weight loss was done through calorie restriction, very little intentional exercise.…
  • I am happy to mentor! I'm Becky, 30, 5'5", from the Chicago area. Will be celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary this year, and together we have three girls under six (one of whom is special needs). I work full time in sales for a heat transfer paper master distributor. I've been on MFP since January 2016 with a…
  • If your depression is more situational, forcing yourself to exercise might actually help as others have noted. However, if you have clinical depression, please seek professional help. Therapy and/or meds are a must for a lot of people, and nothing to be ashamed of.
  • If MFP tells you to eat 1200, that is NET. That is the lowest MFP will suggest for women, 1500 is the recommended minimum for men.
