  • I’ve done so many diets in my lifetime. Lost almost 50 lbs in 2016, but unfortunately put most back on. Lots of reasons/excuses why .Low-carb always seems to work best for me, so I started keto on January 2. Will weigh in on Wednesday morning to see loss progress, but so far, feel good. Had a couple days of headache, but…
  • I have tried many diets over the years looking for an easy magic bullet. I lost weight, but gained it back as soon as I started to eat normally. I finally gave into the reality that the magic bullet is CI/CO. This is not a new theory, but the availability of apps like MFP makes it so much easier to do now. I agree with…
  • During the week, I have Greek yogurt with 12 almonds and a Tbls of dried cranberries mixed in. 226 calories and quite filling. On Sundays, egg, english muffin and sometimes with turkey or chicken sausage, once in a while real bacon.
  • I don't deprive myself of any foods during the week, I follow CICO and eat what my family is having or what I want. On Friday and Saturday nights, I use some of my exercise calories for WINE...
  • This is awesome. How did you lose the inches, even in maintenance? Do you use a free weight program? I haven't incorporated weights into my Spin routine but think I should. It's just intimidating to me. I'm 50 yo, 5'5" and currently a size 8. Still have 5 to 10 lbs to lose.
  • I third that! Very pleased with mine.
  • I turned 50 in June and am post menopausal as well. I've battled my weight for my entire life and have tried almost every fad there was. I lose, but gain it back. I really think MFP and Calories In/Calories Out is the magic bullet for me. It is harder to lose weight as I get older as my metabolism has definitely slowed, so…
  • I think it's the fact that when you are clipped onto the pedal, you are working both legs with every pedal stroke, pushing down with one and pulling up with the other. I feel it in my calves, quads, glutes and hamstrings. One good thing about cycle shoes for Spin, they should last for a long time.
  • I recently got Liv Fera cycling shoes that I bought at a local bike shop. They were $88 and $17 for cleats. I love Spin with them. My feet don't go numb or ache and I definitely use my entire leg. Calories burned also went up since I started wearing them. I can't figure out how to post a picture of them here.
  • Thanks for the warning. That's the last thing I need!
  • I am a 50 yo female and l have lost just shy of 45 lbs since January 4. Stick to your calorie goal and exercise several times a week and you should have no problem with this. It isn't always fun or easy, but visualize yourself at your end goal on your trip in July when you feel frustrated or weak. It really is mind over…
  • I do both. I enter daily and stay under my allowance every day (mostly), but save my exercise calories for Friday and Saturday so I can enjoy wine in the evenings. We also often get takeout pizza or Chinese food on Fridays, and have a nice dinner on Saturdays, so I need to bank as many calories as I can. This way I don't…
  • I have the Garmin Vivosmart HR and it does what I wanted, measures calories burned , heart rate, sleep, etc. I wear it all the time, except when charging it, including in the shower, doing dishes, swimming in a pool and the ocean, etc. Definitely waterproof.
  • I have lost about 12lbs since I started to Spin regularly in May/June. I didn't do measurements when I started, but since January I've lost almost 45 lbs and went from pants size 14 to 8/10. Definitely seeing results in my legs and butt. Getting nice definition in my calves and thighs. I'm even more excited that I am…
  • I know what you mean. I used to run, but never really enjoyed it. I tried doing combination sprint, jog on the treadmill but dreaded it. I am not coordinated enough for dance cardio classes. I liked the Arc trainer better but 45 minutes seemed like an eternity. Spin classes go fast. Even on days when I'm just not into it,…
  • Keep going, you will adjust and get addicted! I try to ride "heavy" with high resistance even though it does slow me down a bit. I believe I burn more calories. In some classes; however, I am trying to resist the urge to add more weight because the workout is supposed to be all about RPMs. Good luck!
  • I, too, love Spinning. I started going to classes regularly in June. I Spin 4-5 times a week now and definitely notice a difference in my body composition. I am losing weight, too, but slowly (I am trying to get those last 5 pounds off from my original goal and then will access to see if in want to lose more or just…
  • I had a spicy tuna roll for lunch. The MFP data base lists it at 240 calories, which sounds reasonable to me. It was worth it. YUM
  • Bought a new product at my local Stop & Shop called Trimino protein infused water. A 16 oz bottle has 28 calories, 7 grams of protein, 0 carbs, 0 fat, essential amino acids and B-complex vitamins. I tried the Strawberry Lemonade during Spin tonight and it was pretty good. Besides hydration, I it also filled me up and…
  • Welcome to your new lifestyle. You will have binge days or meals...you're human. It's how you react to them that's important. Shake it off and move on. Once you train yourself to do that, your relationship with food begins to change. You are in control...you can savor every last morsel of a binge and get right back on…
  • Wow. So many great stories here. No matter what the motivation to lose weight was, everyone posting here deserves a round of applause. Congratulations for making the conscious decision to change your life and good luck to all. Keep up the terrific work B)
  • Just sent you a connection request. I've had the Vivosmart HR for about 5 weeks and love it. I work out 4 x per week, but with a sedentary job, rarely hit 10000 steps on weekdays. Could use motivation as well. Lori
  • This is a great thread. I put on several pounds traveling for work but haven't had to do so in several months. Down 20 lbs since January. Traveling next week which should be ok-i will stock up on healthy snack and lunch options since I'll have a fridge and my hotel has a tiny gym. It's an upcoming trip to Spain that…
  • I do it so I can drink wine on the weekends! :p
  • I have the Vivosmart HR by Garmin ($150 at Best Buy if you are in the US ) and like it alot. Is my first tracker, so I can't really offer a comparison. Tracks HR, steps, exercise, calories burned, sleep, and more. Also has alarm clock and interacts with Samsung S4 easily and is compatible with MFP. Oh, and waterproof so I…
  • OP- you have company! I am bummed this week myself as my foot/ankle is hurting and preventing me from doing my cardio. I was doing intervals on the treadmill at an incline 2-3 times a week and the elliptical another couple of times. I'm hoping it's just a strain and not a stress fracture so I can get back to work. I dont…
  • I have read many posts over the past month on mfp. Some negative, more positive, but this is awesome! Just a realistic, joyous view of the journey we are all on. Thank you so much for sharing your passion.
  • You're off to a great start. It actually does get easier over time. You will adjust to your new lifestyle and will find yourself actually looking forward to healthy choices. I also find I enjoy my food more and really take the time to saviour every bite especially if I'm eating one of favorites. This doesn't mean you won't…
  • Anchovies. Ruins the whole pizza. Ooh, maybe that's a good tip, order an anchovy pizza, I won't be tempted.
