  • Something unusual happened to me yesterday with regards to food. I had a project deadline, and missed lunch. I only had a piece of keto toast for breakfast, so I decided that I'd get myself the hot wings and fries that I have been craving like a mofo for two weeks. It's not a cheat, it's not a binge - I absolutely have the…
  • Dinner has been kind of rough this week: I typically get done with work about 5:30, then I need to get food prepped, cooked, and eaten so I can be out the door and get to rehearsal by 6:45. But I've been buoyed by meal planning, lots of leftovers, and sheet pan dinners. I will have to meal prep this weekend since the show…
  • 'lo all, badnoodle from West Virginia. I lost a bunch of weight back in 2016, but it all came back with a vengeance so here we go again. I was also diagnosed with T2 (and a bunch of other stuff) in February, so I was really given the come-to-Jesus talk about managing blood sugar and losing weight. SW: 271.4 CW: 239 GW:…
  • I quite like Aldi Keto-friendly, which is 35 cal/slice, 0 net carbohydrates. It's a fairly sturdy bread, good for sandwiches. I'm in the mid-Atlantic area, and there are two regional bakeries (Nickle's and Heiner's) that also do a 35-cal/5 net carbs bread that is thinner and spongier.
  • I had a really depressing conversation with real-life friends yesterday. We were talking about food, and I mentioned how I missed pasta and rice, but that Ozempic was really helping me stick to a low(er) carb diet. And they absolutely went off on me! Things like how I was "unfairly privileged" to have access to it; I was…
  • There's a reason barcode scanning is now a premium feature: it absolutely speeds up logging to just scan & go
  • For me, the main effort of cooking has always been the choosing and deciding. It's mentally draining to factor in cost, flavor preference, ingredient needs, and cooking time, so my partner and I actually made it a formal weekly chore to do a meal plan and grocery order. It honestly evened up some of the emotional labor in…
  • I've been on Oz for about 5 weeks now, and I can totally understand why this drug has skyrocketed in popularity. The appetite suppression has been almost scary. I was always a high-volume food person, and now I look at a two-egg burrito and think "no way I can finish that". As sarahneverquits said, my brain has just quit…
  • Ooh, I have to have variety. I tried meal prepping for awhile, but I couldn't stick with it because I couldn't face Another Depressing Day of leftovers. It actually was counterproductive, because I'd eat out instead of trying to force myself to eat whatever box of sadness I'd brought with me. One way I've found to keep a…
  • I'm open too! Though I tend to add a hodepodge of ingredients for whatever I've cooked instead of creating recipes, so it can be a lil difficult to figure out what I actually ate.
  • I had mine out a couple of months ago, and while it doesn't seem to interfere with weight loss, I don't seem to do well with a high fat ratio. So no keto for me, but general low-cal works just fine.
  • Like you, I had some extra edamame once that needed eating. I threw about 200-250g of it, a little extra chicken broth and about a tablespoon of curry powder into https://skinnytaste.com/cream-of-zucchini-soup-1-ww-point/. The edamame upped the protein and made the soup a little heartier. Everyone in my house really liked…
  • I tend to buy 5-6 birds when they are on sale for $.60/lb, and then spatchcock them (cut out the spine) and cut off the big lumps of fat around the *kitten* end. Fat is delicious, but these are just flaps of skin that won't cook well. I then spice rub them over and under the skin with whatever rub strikes my fancy, though…
  • 265, on the wagon again. Most of my old friends are no longer active, so I'd love some new ones.
  • Forward is my go-to blend for most everything, but I also like their Ozark blend for meats and veggies. It tastes very American. Seconding apullum on 33rd and Galena, that's my favorite pork rib rub, or if I want BBQ flavor on a smoked chicken. I use the Greek blend frequently with tomato cucumber salad. I'm not crazy…
  • I have a pair of pants that I misread the size label on. They live in a special place in my dresser, and I WILL fit into them one of these days.
  • I made cauliflower paella tonight, substituting cauliflower for the rice, and smoked turkey sausage for the chorizo (somewhere, a Spaniard is cursing me for defiling their national dish, I know.). It made close to 2kg of food, but was only about 350 kcal for a quarter of the pan. How does that even work??
  • I admit it, I watch people. There are a couple of dudes that have truly excellent form, and they are a joy to observe. Especially when Stealth Muscle Guy is doing 500lb deadlifts or Ironic Facial Hair Guy is benching 250 like it ain't no thing. Sometimes it's more curious, like "How does Hijab Girl keep from losing that…
  • I'd like some additional new friends. I've been here long enough that many of my older ones have fallen off the wagon/radar.
  • Do you have an aversion to artificial sweeteners? I typically take a flavored coffee with a couple packets of sweet n low.
  • I quite like the Cookies and Cream, Smores, Cookie Dough, and Blueberry Muffin flavors (I avoid the ones 200+ cal). I'll have one on days where I need protein and extra fiber, but that's not every day. Banana muffin was god-awful though. I could not make myself eat that one.
  • I've heard of those, but I don't want to bet on the outcome. I'm more interested in reinforcing the habits of the process - regular logging, and adhering to calorie goals. This is especially true when I know that no particular amount of weight loss is ever guranteed. I know for myself that what the numbers say I "should"…
  • My track record says I typically lift on two days, and do at least 20-30 minutes of something aerobic 3x a week, sometimes on the same days. There exists no exercise that I actually enjoy, so I tend to keep it short.
  • @pneschich I feel your pain on churascurria. I can't resist meat on a spit, ever. I haven't posted in awhile, I really lost my motivation sometime back in October or so... quit lifting or going to the gym, and a lot of secret bingeing. Not good. But I did also keep up my overall activity level thanks to my Fitbit, and so I…
  • YMMV, but I have found that getting at least 20 minutes of cardio or 40 of lifting, then having a protein-rich dinner really puts the kibosh on my evening appetite. Also, brushing your teeth may help - many are psychologically primed that you don't eat after that.
  • What no one ever told me is that maybe you'll hurt more... just in different places. My feet don't hurt when I stand up anymore (yay!), but my hips and lower back kill me if I run too much on the treadmill, my knees complain if I use the stationary bike too long, and my shoulders threaten mutiny after lifting. I know I…
  • I realized that I've saved so much money over the past year not eating out at lunch every day that I can take a week-long cruise in May. Woohoo! B) (Also, if my FitBit is to be remotely trusted, I did so much activity on Saturday that I negated 3x my daily calorie allowance.)
  • Today I got to the airport about four hours early for my flight, so I decided to walk a complete circuit of the terminal, with my 30lb carryon on my back. Even though it's only Pittsburgh, by the time I finished hall D, I was exhausted and my knees were really complaining. But the thing is, 30 lbs is about half of what…
  • Wasn't me, but while I was doing squats, the poor guy next to me at the deadlift station had a Code Brown. Fortunately, none escaped his drawers, but he duck walked out of there with great haste. Come to think of it, I've never seen him there again.
  • @Heathermetoo I think the best plan is actually leftover management. Even if you just stuff yourself, there's a fundamental limit to your capacity on one day. But if you stretch those fatty or carby leftovers over the next week, then it becomes real problem. I'm solving that by skipping turkey in favor of deli ham, a baked…
