  • Your BMR doesn't matter. You need to eat more than your BMR. Your BMR is the calories you burn being in a coma, not moving. That is not the amount of calories you burn. Sounds like you aren't tracking calories correctly. As others have said, track correctly first to see if that is the issue.
  • Good for you for those who can only eat a couple of pieces of candy and not binge on it. A lot of us can't. So, yeah, getting rid of it is a better option for those of us who can't moderate.
  • I'm single and disabled. It is far more expensive for me to eat healthy than it is to buy the cheap carb stuff. My grocery bill has gone way up - everything is about $2.00 more per item than it was 6 months ago, so the cheap chicken is more, milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, frozen vegetables, are all more expensive. If I buy…
  • If you aren't using weights, there is no way you are going to fill out the flab with muscle. I really don't think these exercises are going to help. I have really flabby arms due to a lot of weight loss, and there is no way I will ever get the loose skin to tighten up, or develop enough muscle to fill it out.
  • Your post reminded me, my mom had been an alcoholic also. She would never admit it, but when you have 5 triple/quadruple strength Vodka 7's between 5 pm and 9 pm and pass out, you have a problem. Thankfully, she doesn't drink anymore.
  • I have a lot of self-motivation. I'm disabled, and walk on crutches, and want to continue to be able to, so I have to manage my weight and keep myself strong. My mother is another motivating factor. She has been extremely lazy and sedentary her whole adult life, and now she is severely disabled from having several strokes…
  • Just because something works for you, doesn't mean it will work for someone else. If you didn't come across as "this is fact" and instead "this is what worked for me, maybe it will work for you also" you wouldn't get so much pushback. A lot of what you post is incorrect. It's great you want to try to motivate people, but…
  • My mother is diabetic, and eats bread and potatoes regularly. That isn't the enemy. The worst thing a diabetic can do is eat too much food, period, which results in too many calories. Arguably, a lot of people can eat tons of potatoes and bread, but eating a proper amount is fine. Chicken, eaten in high enough quantity,…
  • What country do you live in that it isn't covered? Most insurance will cover it in the United States as part of your Diabetes treatment.
  • Do you have a Registered DIabetes Educator or at least a Registered Dietician that you have been referred to? This would probably be best asked to them. My mom has T2 and CKD, among other issues, and unfortunately, she won't follow their advice.
  • It also depends on the type of crutches you will use. I assume you will use the underarm crutches, which are harder to use. I walk full time on forearm crutches and have extremely strong shoulders, arms, wrists and hands due to walking on them for almost 50 years. Several years ago, I ended up bedridden for 5 weeks and…
  • I agree with the others, just pick one and move on.
  • How are you measuring your calories? If you are actually only eating 1200 calories, you would be losing. I am betting there are logging errors and weighing errors of food that are causing you to eat much more than you think you are.
  • You don't have to eat that much protein, but yogurt, any dairy really, chicken is really high in protein, you shouldn't have a problem hitting at least 90 g per day. Eat a little larger portion of chicken or fish. Makes a big difference in the amount of protein. Lower your protein goal to 30% and increase fat to 40%.
  • I agree. I got the vaccine, so I will go maskless. I am very unlikely to get the virus, and don't see the point of wearing a mask. If I'm not going to get it, why wear a mask "to protect the unvaccinated" when I won't have the virus anyway? If people choose not to get the vaccine, that's fine, won't affect me, and I have…
  • It is habitual. If you drive past the same fast food place all the time, you get used to just automatically stopping there to get something. Change your routine, drive a different route so you aren't triggered by seeing the fast food place and automatically stopping. I have to do that with Burger King. If I have to drive…
  • You should have been or ask to be referred to a Registered Dietician/Diabetes Educator for your husband's specific issues.
  • I would say you aren't weighing things. It looks like you have a lot of "1 medium", and all your grams are even numbers, and some look like they were just taken off the packaging and not really weighed for accuracy. Bread for example, can weigh a lot more than it states on the package, which increases the calories. I also…
  • The thing about the "free" foods is they really aren't free. They still have calories, and if you eat enough of them, will put you over your calories.
  • I had my 2nd Pfizer dose on Monday. My arm started hurting a few hours after the vaccine, then by evening I was exhausted. Woke up the next morning with a fever of about 100.5 and headache. Felt really blah all day. Then suddenly about 8:30 that night, I suddenly was wide awake and felt my fever just go away, and I felt…
  • I decided a long time ago that I do not need to eat everything in sight just because it is Christmas, or Thanksgiving, or whatever. I didn't like the feeling of being stuffed to the point my stomach hurt and felt like I could throw up. I eat a normal sized plate of food, and only eat the food I truly enjoy. I skip…
  • We have done this with my mom. She has had a series of strokes over the years, and her only hobby is cooking/baking. (Part of the reason she has had these strokes - she eats this crap). You literally have to say, I appreciate the thought, but I won't eat this, or can't eat it, or whatever. We tell her to not waste the food…
  • 10 days of no exercise isn't going to make you pack on the pounds. Eat a little less for a week and a half.
  • I'm sure I'm an anomaly, but I lost over 50lbs over 2 summers just by walking anywhere from 1/4 - 1 mile every other day. I do walk on crutches, so my physical exertion is much more than a normal person that walks normally. So just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it doesn't work for a lot of other people.
  • You aren't the only one. I took opioids for about 2 months after abdominal surgery to remove a huge ovarian cyst. I was having excruciating muscle spasms for some reason, and that was the only thing that worked. I didn't have any of the common side effects, and I just naturally started to wean off of them at about the 2…
  • You do know you can do both, right? As a matter of fact, weight lifting and walking does different things for your health, so you should do both.
  • Easy solution is to have that shoe built up - they slice the sole and sandwich 3/4 inch (or whatever length you need) to the bottom of the shoe. I have a 2 inch leg length discrepancy and have this done with every pair of shoes I get.
  • See a physical therapist?
  • Did you mean macros? People sometimes count macros, but calories are really what you should look at for weight loss.
  • It's hard to help someone who doesn't say what they exactly need help with. In general terms, to lose weight, you need to stick to a calorie deficit appropriate for you. Set MFP up with correct stats and set it to lose 1 - 1.5 lbs a week and see what that gives you. Weigh your foods to get accurate calorie counts. Track…
