Ex Basketball Player needing help

Hi, I used to play basketball from sun up to sun down. After I tore my ACL my sophmore year in college, I gained weight, had a chilc, and gained more weight. I didn't complete physical therapy so my knee has never really healed. I still like to shoot around but I cannot even do a lay-up. I need help finding a way to strengthen my knee without causing additional damage. Any suggestions?

See a physical therapist?3

You need to see a physical therapist. That might involve seeing a GP first and getting a referral to one.2

ive had 13 knee surgeries in the span of about 20 years. yes, a physical therapist would help. there is other stuff you can do tho. leg lifts. lay on your back. tighten thigh muscle and lift leg a few inches off the floor and put back down. you can't do enough of these. turn on side and do same. roll to other side and repeat. sit in a chair and get up. sit back down. don't use your arms. ice your knees. stretch your hamstrings. do more leg lifts. walk up and down the stairs, one leg on each stair. squat. do some wall sits to strengthen thigh muscles. do more squats. stretch again. lay on back and raise straight leg as high as it can go. use a towel around your toes and pull towards your chest. do more leg lifts. this is mostly what a physical therapist is going to start you with and its all stuff you can do on your own. i do advise you to see a doctor, but start with this stuff and when doc prescribes physical therapy you'll be ahead of the game. good luck!0
