  • Love this! I turn 40 in July, and will admit that it was a huge motivator in starting this journey again. I started in January and am down about 30 pounds with about 30 more to go. Might not get to my goal by the big day, but I'll be in a much better place than I was! I'll be cheering you on! And am also in no way good at…
  • My mini goal is to get into the 160s. I'm 175.6 as of today, so hoping to achieve this goal within a few weeks. I started at 213 in September, and being able to cross another "decade" off the list is one of my favorite parts of the journey!
  • I cannot believe how good I feel since beginning dry January. I am on day 12 and don't think I've gone this long without drinking since I turned 21 fifteen years ago. Normally, I drink an easy three glasses of wine a night, and sometimes more. I'm down 8.2 pounds and can't wait to see how much more I can take off before…
  • The biggest benefit for me is accountability. I'm not going to mindlessly have seven handfuls of goldfish if I have to log it and see the 450 calories it just added to my day. As others have said, it also trains you to realize how many calories are in the foods that you commonly eat, so that you can make an informed…
  • I love this post. Oftentimes, I've found myself wanting to lose a certain number of pounds before big events (a vacation, a wedding, you get it). Every single time has been a failure, because I was not set up properly for success, did not have a healthy mindset, and probably, deep down knew that it was an unattainable…
  • @elisa123gal , YES... totally a correlation between drinking and weight gain (or no loss) for me, too... even when I'm within my calories. After not drinking for two days, I'm down two pounds. If only that trend would continue for the whole month! @sarah7591 , I wanted wine so badly last night, too! And if I had had any in…
  • @jonnymbu, You've got this! Like you, I've had success losing weight in the past, but am finding that it is coming off more slowly this time around (maybe just because I'm getting older!)... progress is progress, though! All we can do is our best. @fittwitt1972 , I totally avoided the scale all spring and summer, because I…
  • Hi, everyone! SW September 2020: 213 SW January 2021: 187.8 GW this month: 179 Ultimate goal weight: 150
  • Hello, everyone! Hope your New Year is off to a wonderful start! I'm one day AF down and who knows how many more to go! ... just got an alert on my watch that I had better quality sleep detected last night -- that's victory #1! :)
  • I am! It's my first one, and like you, I log way too many wine calories. I'm anxious about not having my daily wine fix, but also so excited at the thought of it not having a hold over me.
  • Hi, everyone! My sister and I decided to take on a dry January this year and I had been dreading it for the past few days. I'm usually a daily wine drinker and look forward to dinnertime so I can enjoy a few glasses. I have to say, I've felt such freedom today not watching the clock for wine-time, since I know that it's…
  • I could use some friends!! I started over myself about six weeks ago and am active every day! Hope we can cheer each other on!
  • I am a teacher and will likely be home for the rest of the school year. It’s definitely different being home and having food and drink available at any moment. It will be a testament to my discipline, but I’ve vowed to come back from this time to shock my colleagues with my progress. Like someone else said, it’s a good…
  • Yep. Exactly this. It took me quite some time to learn awareness, but once I started thinking about my choices in terms of how they affect my goals, things became a little easier.
  • I made myself a deal that each ten pound loss I’d schedule myself an order from StitchFix. Keeps me motivated and updates my wardrobe a bit at the same time. Seven pounds until the next one!!
  • Hello! A month ago I was at the heaviest I’d ever been, too. And now I’m not. Like you, I’ve still got a ways to go, but I’m learning to love and trust the process. Keep forming those good habits — you’re setting up a great foundation! Sounds like you’ve got plenty of motivation... just aim to improve a little bit each day…
  • Hi, everyone! I'm Laura, 35, in Massachusetts. This is my second go around on MFP, the first being three years ago when I dropped 45 pounds. Unfortunately, once the weight was gone, so were my good habits, and here I am again.... only this time with even more to lose! I started early February and have lost 14 so far, with…
  • I weigh myself every day, and some days... it is hard. If I’ve had a great couple of days, but the scale goes up, it’s hard to see the bigger picture and not let it demotivate me. That said, I think that it is a very powerful accountability tool, but we need to remember to take it as empirical data and that alone. You…
  • I actually love logging, but I think it is because it gives me some sense of control. I plan my meals for the day early and log them in the morning, and I like being able to have numerical data attached to what I consumed, as well as a pretty good idea what the scale will do in the coming days. A few years ago, I lost a…
  • Absolutely possible, just log it and move on. If you are worried, maybe try to sneak in an extra few minutes of cardio. I am a wine drinker and still successful. The key for me is to be conscious of what I am consuming and to be accountable for it.
  • Hello! I’m 35 with about 65 left to lose. My weaknesses are wine, and entire bags of potato chips when I’m drinking wine!! I’ve found this site so helpful, because logging my calories keeps me accountable, and the forums are great reminders that I can do this and why I want to. I’m down ten pounds this month, wishing I’d…
  • Hello! I’m new here but thought I’d join the fun! I’m Laura, a 35yo teacher, and in the beginning of my second stint on MFP. Back in 2017, I lost 40 pounds successfully, but now I’m back with even more to lose... :( Heighest Weight: 222 SW: 215.8 CW: 205.2 GW: 150 Height: 5’7 In March, I’m aiming to get below 195, and to…
  • I'm 5'7 and had 55 to lose. I'm down 36 and sometimes it's hard for me to see the changes in my own body, although some weeks i will feel like I've lost a lot in a particular area (at first it was my face, then shoulders, and now my legs look so slim -- wish my midsection would catch up!). Those very close to me started…
  • I think the 20lb goal with the corset back is the way to go. The weeks leading up to your wedding will be stressful enough without having to be hyper-vigilant about your diet. For what it's worth, I have lost 32 pounds in 3 months exactly. However, I'm still almost 30 pounds away from my dream weight, so I had quite a bit…
  • Hi Knox! I am 32 and finalized my divorce a few months ago after a nine year relationship. It is depressing, lonely, and hard not to feel like a failure. We are young, and our peers haven't been there yet. I don't know about you, but I've avoided friends and family at times, simply because I didn't want to answer the…

  • Great question! I, too, use it just for motivation, but now that I look back, I think its projections were probably near accurate. Like someone else mentioned, i should definitely start keeping a log!
  • You look great, and should be proud of your progress! Glad to hear it sounds like you've recognized that you need to be healthy. You're so right, it's not straightforward. Weight loss is not linear, and our progress depends so much on finding balance. Keep it up! Your hard work is definitely paying off!
  • Makes a huge difference! You look awesome!!
  • Big difference! You look great!
  • Face for sure.. then shoulders/neck area. I'm 30 lbs in and just starting to see it come off my stomach.
