  • When I eat an apple, I eat the whole thing, core and all.
  • There are a lot of different diets, and all of them work to a greater or lesser extent, as long as you follow them. The most important thing is to choose a diet that you will be able to sustain over the long term. It might be high-carb/low-fat, or low-carb/high-protein, keto, paleo, clean foods, whole foods, or whatever.…
  • Ooops, my bad. :)
  • I didn't say you didn't. I was just speaking generally.
  • I eat my exercise calories - all of them - because I have two separate goals: one is to lose weight, the other is to become physically strong and aerobically fit. Sure, you can lose weight by not exercising, and just eating the right foods. But the way I see it, losing weight and becoming physically fit are two very…
  • High School Music, Drama and English. Recently discovered that eating properly seems to have given my immune system a bit of a boost (concept!) - I stayed ok while lots of people around me were getting colds and flu this winter. Feel free to add me. :)
  • TIL that your brain physically changes every time you learn something new. This can be a chemical change (for short term memory), a structural change (for long term memory) or a functional change (for skills learned over a long period of time). Ergo, lots of brain-changing going on in this thread! :)
  • I knew it wasn't just my imagination!!!!
  • Follow the doctor's advice. If you don't like her opinion or method for arriving at it, seek a second opinion, but from another doctor, not MFP. This. Get a doctor's advice, then use MFP as a tool to help you follow it. But I certainly wouldn't let an app like MFP replace a doctor.
  • You should be eating back your exercise calories in any case. If you're working out that much, you need to be eating quite a bit more than just 1300. This should be a net goal, after exercise and food are both taken into account.
  • Physio, definitely. Ask about resistance bands and isolation exercises with very light weights to start with. It will take time, but with proper supervision and training, you should be able to work towards getting some upper body strength back.
  • I have a daily allowance of eight almonds (no more, no less) and six pieces of dried apricot.
  • Hi, I've got about 10 or 15 more lbs I'd like to lose, but I'm planning to stick around for the long haul to track maintenance. You can add me if you like. :)
  • Cheese and crackers. Ice cream. Lately I've learned how to slice cheese about a millimetre thick, so that it melts on my tongue. No crackers. The problem is that I keep wanting several millimetres.
  • I really wouldn't cut back so much like that. Weight loss happens over time. I've had the occasional blow-out where I'll eat over 2100 calories in a day, but over several weeks, my average intake is a little over 1400 and I've been losing pretty steadily. My weight has jumped up once or twice after a big eat, but getting…
  • The first step is simply this: begin. I had depression for a long time and still have anxiety (although much improved now) so I can relate to where you're at. After several years of training myself to run and do weightlifting, I had a ruptured achilles tendon which eventually had to be reconstructed entirely, so I was…
  • I found that I had to up my intake at first to about 1500 cals. I was able to bring it back down to 1350-ish after a week or two as my body got used to it. Also, I exercise nearly every day, otherwise I'd never make that number. I like my food too much! I've lost about 11 lbs in the last six weeks. You can check out my…
  • * I try to log everything. And I mean everything. Even the excess calorie foods I'd rather leave out and forget about. I keep it in my face every day. * Also, pre-logging the day before really helps as well. If I know I'm going to a party or something, I try to pre-log around it if I can. If I can't, I log it anyway as…
  • It might be muscle weight. After doing resistance training for a while, I find that the scales start to not make any sense because I'm gaining (or retaining) weight, but losing inches and getting smaller.
  • Had a pulled muscle in one shoulder for weeks. Went to physio, did exercises, everything. Two days ago, it finally healed. Yesterday, the same injury showed up in the other shoulder. I can't win.
  • Hi, I'm from Brissy. I've been on for a few weeks now, post sometimes but mostly blog. You can add me if you like. :)
  • Hi, I'm from Brisbane Qld. :)
  • Yay, Aussies! I'm from Brisbane Qld. Free free to add me. :)
  • Add me too. I'm back after a hiatus, keeping the food diary and a blog to stay motivated. Would love to have more friends.
  • You can add me if you like. I have yet to get friends on MFP so that would be lovely. I'm 42, from Australia. :) Would love to have some new friends on along the way.
  • I didn't start losing weight properly until a couple of weeks ago, after I realised that I wasn't losing because I was still chowing down on my favourite snack, celery sticks with hummus. Lots and lots of hummus. And brazil nuts - they were another fave.
