Because when there are 20 posts on your feed from friends who just finished burning 800 calories or more doing strenuous exercise, sometimes it shames you into putting down the Cheetos and getting on the treadmill. Sometimes. Also it gives you someone to brag about your weight loss accomplishments to so that you don't have…

Give it some time. The fatigue was the worst for me, and it took several months and bump ups in medication before that got better, but it eventually did. They have to move slow with the dosage because if you swing too much in the opposite direction (and become hyperthyroid), it can be dangerous. My doctor was testing me…

Sure they work, for as long as you're doing it. But by their nature, those following them are usually looking for a quick fix, and they go back to their regular diet afterwards and pile it back on. (and obviously, eating NOTHING is super unhealthy.)

I'm not really a tattoo fan, but I wouldn't discount someone who had them. You know, unless it was a super gruesome one liable to give me PTSD. Then I might have to take a pass.

Some foods do lead to discoloured teeth, but there are so many affordable products out there to whiten teeth now that I wouldn't worry about it too much. I use Crest Whitestrips 1 hr express once in a while when I want to make them brighter - it's like $50/box and lasts for like a year (the ones you use for 2 weeks…

Everyone makes mistakes. You have to own up to them and fix them and try not to repeat them. But if you're constantly making the same mistakes, there's an issue and you need to figure out what it is. Are you letting yourself get distracted instead of paying attention to the task? Are you taking the time to go over your…

I found that I had to go hungry for a couple of weeks until my stomach got used to eating less - then it got a whole lot easier. (I was eating plenty, but my body was used to eating too much). Also fibre. Lots and lots of fibre.

All these people are right, of course. That said, I know how you're feeling, and my solution was to (1) invest in a treadmill and hand weights so I could exercise in the privacy of my own home; and (2) in nicer weather, walk outside on paths in the woods where I see very few people. Sometimes I find that accommodating my…

That's a great idea - I used to be a volunteer driver with them and those meals usually looked pretty dang tasty! And they could accommodate for special dietary needs. At least you'd have one hot meal taken care of.

I'm not 83, but I am hella lazy, so I usually try to prepare a bunch of stuff at the same time so I don't have to "work" at it every day - like grill a bunch of chicken breasts and then eat those for the next several days, or spend a few minutes filling individual baggies with cut up veggies or fruit for snacks so I don't…

I make kind of a fake fudge but people seem to like it and ask for more every year --- It's just 18 oz choc. chips, a can of sweetened condensed milk, 2 cups of mini marshmallows and a pinch of salt, melted in a saucepan over low heat, then you take it off the heat, stir in 1.5 teaspoons of vanilla, pour it into a 9X9 pan…

This one is freaking me out - the last photo looks like he could be the son of the guy in the 1st photo!! Well done.

A useless kitchen tool for all those times you really want your melon to be shaped like a small ball, which for me, is exactly never.
-
I got a melon baller and a really bad smelling candle from a boyfriend one year. That was it. It's like he had gone to the dollar store and taken the 2 items nearest to the cash register. The melon baller was especially puzzling.

Yes. Vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike should refuse all dinners at their house, because their dinners sound terrible!
-
I'm not a vegetarian - I love a nice slab 'o meat, but who doesn't make side dishes for Christmas?? It seems bizarre. Are you sure you understood correctly, and they didn't just mean they weren't making a vegetarian MAIN dish? I can't imagine anyone having *just* meat and munchies for Christmas dinner.

I don't know, but they put the boom boom into my heart.

Looking good, my friend. I guess we started around the same time - didn't realize that. I'm down 20 lbs and don't notice a huge difference in my appearance yet, but I definitely *feel* different. Here's to progress!
-
I weigh myself multiple times per day, somewhat obsessively, but I only 'count' it on Saturday mornings. That's when I log it here.

I have a little weight loss challenge going on with my sisters that ends Dec. 24, so I plan to be very good until then, eat whatever the hell I want on the 24th and 25th, and get back on the wagon on the 26th. I eat gravy once a year, on Christmas day, and I plan to drown everything in it as per normal.

To make me regret teasing him. He achieved his goal about 10 posts ago.

I'm in a similar boat (not sure if perimenopausal yet but might be), and although I've been losing quite slowly, it is going down (roughly 5 lbs month). I think the key for those of us with thyroid conditions is consistency and lots and lots of patience. And, as @Golbat says, making sure your meds are at the right dosage.

I'm not as..."immersed" in the threads as some others are. I miss all the good inside jokes.

Speaking of negative attitudes...

Well that's part of my terrible personality. Duh!

Then it must be my terrible personality. :#

Unfortunately, yes. No one is interested in anything other than my actual baking.
-
I *love* to bake. And I love nothing more than seeing someone I've baked for *really* appreciate it. But I don't expect anyone to eat 4 slices of cheesecake, no matter how awesome it is (and it is, believe me). It's all in how you frame it - if you tell her her baking is so irresistible you cannot control your portion…

That seems like an insanely high goal. I'd hate to see you lose something like 30 or 40 lbs (which is still a huge amount for 3 months) and somehow feel disappointed that you've failed. (I lose 5-6 lbs a month and I'm quite proud of it!) Any progress is good progress, in my view. Do your thing, and see what happens, but…
