  • I stopped completely! I was able to do that....for several weeks (and thought that I was 'special') and then I would hurt myself. Learned that lesson....several times over. Never again! I share that - constantly - so that more and more people will see this bad idea and learn from my mistake. :-)
  • Ditto! +1. I used to do Power Lifting but almost three months ago stopped because I kept hurting myself (so, working dead lifts and squats at 85% of 1RM three or four times a week turns out to NOT be a brilliant way of doing things). I am working right now of cutting some body fat....but then I am so in!
  • I was pretty sure of that....I just wanted to be super clear with you. Don't want any "you have been warned" messages! :-)
  • That is a legit problem with this. I looked for some two months before I jumped in (February 1, 2018). Here are some quick pointers: 1. There are four types of Keto. We will only talk about the Standard Keto Diet. I will provide a link that shows all four at the bottom. 2. Your macros - roughly - will be 75% Fats, 20%…
  • Headed to the gym, folks. But I will be back in about 90 minutes....roughly. I have been doing Keto since February 01, 2018 and love it. But, that is me. Everyone is different. :-)
  • Hey, Miss Moderator. In no way was I going to turn this into a political debate. Not my intent. Just glad that they have created a group of like-minded folks! And are working towards a healthier 'them'. :-)
  • Okay.....this might be a really long one..... First of all, welcome to MFP. So glad to see someone else trying to take control of his/her health. I started this something like 2+ years ago. I had no idea how to read a label on the food containers. I had no idea what "one cup" was...or 1 teaspoon or 1 tablespoon. To be…
  • Starting at 45 things took a HUGE turn for the better. It had - for me, anyway, everything to do with choices. Choices about the food I was eating. Choices about the portion size. Choices about exercise. Things were not looking so great for me...but, again, that was because of what I had done to my body for five or six…
  • Interesting! I am conservative and find the Socialist platform very very disturbing. But...that is not the point of MFP. I welcome you aboard MFP and think that it is great that you have formed this group for like-minded people to get fit. Forget about politics for a second.....we are all human and there is a massive…
  • I will jump in here (or, as I usually say...chime in here): I started doing Keto on February 01, 2018. I looked into it for roughly two months before I took the plunge. There is so much crappola out there about Keto. nvmomketo has given you some good advice. I would suggest spending some time looking into Keto - or any…
  • So, easy to follow guidelines? Okay...and keep in mind that these are really very generic! You may need to adjust one way or another.... First off, there are four different versions of Keto. I am going to K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, silly) and only speak about the Standard Keto Diet. So, forget about the other three kinds (I…
  • I do Keto, but as the others have suggested, losing weight is all about keeping a caloric deficit. So, the "calories in" are less than the "calories out". Keto, and I am a huge fan of that way of eating, is very restrictive. It is super low carb (I am usually fewer than 30 Carbs a day) but that is okay - for me. Not…
  • If I might piggy back on this, there are two youtube channels that offer amazing content; 3DJM (Eric Helms and crew) and Revive Stronger. Clearly, many others (I am sure). But those two channels offer awesome content consistently!
  • Hey, hey! I have high A1C and am following Keto. I really enjoy that way of eating. It might not be for everyone (as Carbs are very low....so, yes - Keto is very restrictive) but it seems to work for me. How is your nutrition? Do you do any resistance training? Have you explored - and very general comment | question here -…
  • @mandy_marie - awesome work! 19.4lbs ain't no joke! I, too, am doing Keto (because of high A1C) and actually love that way of eating (I am 51 and generally refuse to use WOE!). I am about to turn things upside down (but that is another story that is not relevant to your post). How do you find being in Ketosis? And, are you…
  • Good evening! Glad to see that you are back. Sorry to hear about your back issues. Kinda sucks, to be honest. I would suggest the following to you.....and I think that everyone would agree with me (generally speaking). Losing weight is all about calories in vs. calories out. You need to be in a caloric deficit to lose…
  • So, as everyone has stated - depends on your goals. I will - generally speaking - do seven minutes (plus or minus) on the treadmill before my training sessions just to get the blood flowing, get my body temperature up that 1 degree or so and to get my mind right. Then, I will do my training session. I will always start…
  • ^^^^^^^ +1 What she said! I was thinking the exact same thing and have suggested this to several people today. I look at the week....not the individual day....as the measuring unit. To me, it is a huge change in mindset. And it really helps (well, at least the way my noggin works).
  • So, welcome to MFP. I have a similar story (peaked at 251 and got down to 192.....dang I was a beast then!). Sitting at 205lbs now with some extra fluff as I did power lifting for some 18 months (so, lots of eating). PL is deadlifts, squats and bench. I have a messed up right knee (yes, the GLORY DAYS: high school football…
  • Generally speaking, I really enjoy Planet Fitness. The two in Winston-Salem, NC are great. I go to the one on Reynolda. I went first to the one on Peters Creek Parkway but moved home gyms to the Reynolda. I also had the black card. It very much suited my needs. Then I started doing the Power lifting stuff and needed a…
  • Support is always a good thing. Lots of good and nice and cool people here. What kind of comps? What kind of training do you enjoy?
  • So, whatever it is that you are doing now....keep on doing when hubby is home. Talk to him and tell him how you feel and how awesome you feel doing this stuff. Should not be a problem.
  • I have been following Keto since February, 2018. So, a good five months. I avoided the Keto Flu because I researched this for a couple of months before jumping. I increased electrolytes (effectively, sodium....and not table salt...pink himalayan salt is better for that). Bone brooth is a good thing for that as well. There…
  • So, if I might jump in......not to add to the discussion necesarrily, but to provide my definition of what IF is.... I look at IF as a schedule for eating. Plain and simple. There is an X Hour window in which I do not eat and there is an X Hour window in which I do eat. Pretty basic. Not sexy. Not gonna sell 1,000,000…
  • Have you seen the below link: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10332083/which-lifting-program-is-the-best-for-you/p1 It lists a lot of canned programs....strong curves is a very popular program with the ladies, but it may or may not help you accomplish what you are trying to do. It is unclear to me what…
  • I will chime in.... A lot depends on your lifting experience. If you are a newbie then you would likely respond well to anything. What are your goals? Assuming that you are a newbie, I would suggest that you find a plan and follow that plan as it is written. Typically, but not exclusively, canned programs will work you…
  • Ultimately, it is a moot point IN THAT we are not competing for any show or photo shot and we are not competitive athletes (thinking basketball, football, baseball, track, UFC, whatever) where nailing this down is super important. Generally speaking, getting things close is "good enough". But, if we are going to do this,…
  • So, I am HUGE on mind set! To me, that is everything. So, you can imagine what is about to follow! This is not directed at you. Not one bit....so please dont take any of this personally. For me, there is nothing good about the eord cheat. Nothing. You cheated on your test in school. You cheated on your girl friend in…
  • Exactly. *MOST* people make the simple comment about 1g/lb (or some range...I typically state 0.8g-1.2g/lb) but the correct statement is - as middlehaitch stated - is /lbm (lean body mass). Lean Body Mass is your "non-fat" weight! So, to keep the math easy....if I am a 200lb dude and my body fat % is 10% then my LBM is…
  • Agreed! But where I am failing to agree with you is "you are fat?" I do not see it. I mean, fat? :-)
