Looking for people to join that is just starting this journey on the Keto diet. I am needing a lot of support and ideas. I was born and raised in old southern cooking ways. I have cut a lot out like no frying, or lessen the amount of sweet tea. I need a lot of ideas of transferring those old recipes into healthier, cleaner, and tasty ones. My palate I know is really messed up buy how do you get past that? Are you going through this also? Looking to share this journey with others our struggles and successes.

It takes a few weeks to get used to eating a new way. It sounds like ou are off to a good start.

Try these groups for more information, ideas and support:

I find that the support helps. I also like to keep researching the diet. The good information is motivating and it kept it fresh in my mind.

    Good luck!

That is true. I talked to a friend that got me looking into this and he works with a bariatric surgeon and is learning new things all the time about how this way of life really is a great choice but how much more they learn each day about effects it has on the body. For example I was told by my doctor and nutritionist that beans except for like lima beans were good for protein. If you look into it yes they have a little protein but all beans just about are high in starches and carbs. I am diabetic and have been having problems with my sugar levels but I ate a lot of beans like the doctor said I could. If carbs are bad for diabetics and starches especially why would I be told that they were o.k.? So they could make more money off my visits and meds
I hope to really dig into the knowledge behind what I eat and get a good understanding of what truly is good for me.

I will jump in here (or, as I usually say...chime in here):

I started doing Keto on February 01, 2018. I looked into it for roughly two months before I took the plunge. There is so much crappola out there about Keto. nvmomketo has given you some good advice. I would suggest spending some time looking into Keto - or any other diet - before blindly jumping in. That is a recipe for disaster.

The first thing that usually happens to people who just jump in (and I am not criticizing anyone at all with this...) is that they discover the Keto Flu and have no idea what is going on and quit. And I do not blame them. From what I hear, the Keto Flu is horrible. Very easy to mitigate or avoid completely, but horrible nonetheless.

Definitely take a spin over to the two groups. For the Low Carber group, you have to ask to join. Someone will approve that request and then you will have access. And, then away you go!

I will say this.....regarding your doctor...I find - and this is a VERY general comment - that most MDs are HORRIBLE when it comes to nutrition. Generally speaking. That is my experience, anyway. Everyone is different.

I would really suggest doing some research before changing over to Keto. I will be super important for you to understand what happens when you move to Keto, what you need to do to follow Keto and what to look out for.

Those two groups will be a lot of help to you!

I agree. Most MDs know very little in how foods affect the body. It's a shame, because so many chronic conditions can be helped by food choices.

My endocrinologist, when I discovered I had prediabetes, gave the advice to eat more fruits and veggies, and more lean meats. She said they'd watch my numbers and there was nothing to do yet. I was about 20lbs heavy so I tried following her advice for aboiut a year and ended up gaining weight. Needless to say, my BG did not improve. LOL

I started following Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution then. It's a low carb to keto plan designed to lower insulin needs and BG levels. Worked wonderfully for me. :) I recommend the book.

You'll be happy to hear that you can keep frying things since keto is a high fat diet so it can accommodate some frying. You just need to be more creative with the breading, like using ground porn rinds or something instead of breadcrumbs.

    Hi BreeYohn,
Today starts my second week on Keto. I have followed others that have been successful following this way of life. So far I have lost 7lbs and really didn't suffer from keto flu, because I follow the advice of others. I have also, been trying to create tasty meals, because me and my 18yr old daughter is doing this together. I have to make sure I keep her interested. The last two days I has been a struggle, because I had my grandsons. They wanted to go to 5 and below, one got candy and said grandma you want some (I wanted some :'( ). I am with you on this journey, because I need support as well :|;)

Just a bit of friendly advice - if losing weight is important to you, take it seriously. When you're crossing a fence, you always have a choice - where it's lowest or where it's highest. To lose weight, you simply have to eat less than you burn. That's hard enough for most people. Make sure any additional challenge you choose, is an informed and free choice, and that it drives you to continue, not to quit.

Hey everyone thanks for commenting. I have done research for months on this and tried it for a short period at the same time going gluten free then left for a trip and got off it now trying to go back with more of a community and desire to succeed. From my understanding Keto Flu is mainly dehydration. You must remember to stay hydrated since so much is being cut out and take a good multi vitamin and something for fiber.

donnabradshaw thank you for following me I hope we can give each other alot of advise from what we learn on this journey. I am so happy to hear your daughter do this with you it's good to see the younger people recognizing that health is important. I think my generation missed out on those lessons.

Keto flu is actually low electrolytes - sodium specifically. If you hydrate a lot without adding sodium, it can make it even worse.
