It happens. I've been at plateaus for as long as a full month before, but then it all whooshes out. This is recommended reading. It's short, but valuable to consider. https://bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/of-whooshes-and-squishy-fat.html/

Yesterday was 3 weeks cold turkey for me! The first week was hell. But started getting significantly easier. Everyone seems to get different side effects. For me it was mostly insomnia and head fog. Some people get flu like symptoms. Check out Allen Carr's easy method to help you power through.

Sorry for the late response, but I believe I absolutely benefit from it. Each "compartment" trains a different aspect of my fitness. TKD specifically trains explosive cardio (HIIT), core balance, and obviously kicking + flexibility. Weight lifting specifically trains strength in all muscles, especially those not typically…
-
My lifting, cardio, and martial arts are all treated as separate entities.

That's where I go. Just to where it's a bit uncomfortable. Could be a combo of taking some time off + the stretching, but my hams feel like they are made of concrete today. I am always more flexible on weeks where I don't do stretching for whatever reason. If I don't stretch for a week or two I can drop to a full split no…

my car keys. If I'm in a dangerous situation I'm going to stab them with my keys and run to safety and/or the police. I got the idea for stabbing someone with my car keys from a woman's self defense show I watched lol.

Can you imagine a mugger coming up to you with nunchucks and demanding your money?!?!?!?!?!??!?! Why are our politicians living on a different planet?
-
> 1. Nunchucks are "widely used by muggers and street gangs and ha[ve] been the cause of many serious injuries"; and Maybe in that lawmaker's wildest imagination. Are we going to ban baseball bats? Because those seem to be the weapon of choice for most street gangs. Hammers as well.
-
Yeah this is crazy. I know a few people who have "real" metal and wood nunchucks as well. NY is dumb. Sometimes I get really annoyed living in a blue state. The most harmless things are illegal, and I live in an area with some of the highest taxes in THE NATION. (seriously, the corridor between NY and MA has insanely high…

I didn't realize they were illegal to even possess until I read that and did a quick google. That really makes no sense. They are everywhere, and we use them in public demos. We even have a nunchuck requirement for our black belts. Interesting.
-
nunchaku are dumb. Sort of like a yoyo, they are only a "weapon" if you are exceptionally skilled with them. Bo staff training is pretty reasonable for practical self defense IMO. Unfortunately there is a big emphasis on the demo aspect of TKD. Being able to do flashy kicks and do flashy nunchuck moves has a monetary value…
-
There are a few who practice it, but they are all masters, so I'm not sure if it's a "inner circle" thing, or a "4th dan and up" thing. Or it might even be a demo team thing. Color belts do nunchucks, then black belts do nunchucks and bostaff.

The best part is, I've never trained with a sword a day in my life XD
-
so does programming software and playing video games (the mental aspect at least). So I should be good to go!
-
I've considered cross training in BJJ to work on grappling but there's only so many hours in a day.

six years ago vs today

I wish my dojang would do that. They take pics but not many. At least not great ones. I usually get ONE good photo per intramural. So the question is, was that a hook kick to the face? Or was it a variation of a side kick? Can't tell where the momentum is coming from, but the pic caught it at the exact moment

That is a GREAT shot! Definitely wasn't taken from a cell phone lol. Love it

Those are amazing!

Very simple method for shredded chicken breast: Place breasts in lidded pot, put enough water (or chicken broth) to cover. Keep lid on. Bring to boil, when liquid boils turn off and let the pot slowly cool with the lid on. When it's cool'd off the chicken will be tender and shreddable without being over cooked.

I have three types of non stick spray for different cooking situations. "plain", "butter" and "flour" (for baked goods). I don't think any of them taste any good, so the trick for me is finding one that will taste the best with whatever it is I'm cooking. The "Flour" one seems to win out the most for me believe it or not.

^ Bingo, that's a little different than what I'm talking about. We have hapkido as part of our curriculum too that teaches defense from those things. The question is more centered on on why TKD puts so much focus on a particular type of strike that is seen as a big "no no" in a "real" fight.
-
Those two paragraphs in particular I think make a lot of sense. There's definitely a gray area of "fitness" vs raw "skill" when fighting. I think a seasoned TKD fighter would be at a disadvantage vs a seasoned grappler of the same fitness level, but if one is much more fit than the other it would change the odds…

Great topic! My breathing during forms is horrible. I generally exhale on the "exertion" (such as the strike) and inhale on the set up, but sometimes I catch myself holding my breath. Some of the schools in our family kiyup on every move (which is annoying) and extra loud at the kiyup points. Other schools will make a…

I agree with so much of this, so much. Even tonight, on my birthday, I'm avoiding doing drugs or eating too much because I have to go to class tomorrow :) Personal commitment to martial arts keeps you on the straight and narrow even when it's socially acceptable to go down a bad path.
-
just another random thing. The more I do forms, the more I see they are useful. It's a bit like karate kid. You do repetetive movements over and over, and seems pointless, but it's all fight stances and fight moves. You're building the muscle memory to defend yourself even if it doesn't seem like it. The more advanced…

Just the recognition from my TKD fam was great. It's rare to find a place you can belong like that.
-
It was a fun night. I hope they show up more often. Often times I forget how much bigger (broader and taller) I am than a lot of guys, and how much of a difference it can make.
-
I don't know yet, class isn't for another couple of hours. Should be fun though. They're all 10 years younger than me and all 6' tall or more. One of them has a reputation for kicking very hard and not having good control. :O Since our school is so big, we have whole groups of people I haven't met or sparred yet. Tonight…
-
But yes, this is very good for me in the long run. I need to spar people who are better than me, or I can't improve.
