  • 1. Regular soda. I like the sugar free kind just as much so it’s a complete waste. 2. Sweets, or for that matter most high calorie low/nutrition food. I love chocolate. So if I’m going to spend calories on something as a treat it better have chocolate in it. 3. Low cal/ healthy versions of normal food. 459 Calories for a…
  • Oh mate, me too. They weren't even gummies they were in capsule tablets. What a waste of money. Pretty embarrassing but it's easy to get suckered. You go online for help with weight loss and you're more likely to come across loads of fad diets, miracle pills etc that promise you'll lose weight fast, before you come across…
  • I tried the 5 day juice cleanse. Nothing but juice. I was so proud of the 10lb I lost (at the time not understanding about water weight vs fat loss). Funny how those 5 days were so miserable and felt like a year, but actually doing anything for just 5 days is going to have pretty much 0 impact on your weight.
  • When there is a whole row of empty treadmills but they jump in the one right next to you anyway. People just sitting/standing on the equipment looking at their phone for 10 minutes before relinquishing it for someone else to use.
  • Hey! I'm a PC gamer and used to work in the video game industry for a company that make MMORPGs. Playing a lot of WoW at the moment (played on and off since 2006). I also like a lot of Nintendo games (Pokemon, Mario, Legend of Zelda etc). I love board games and pen & paper RPG games (D&D and Call of Cthulhu My current…
  • I don't eat after dinner, which I usually have between 7pm & 8pm. I used to save calories for evening snacks, but I found myself depriving myself of nutritious food during the day so that I could eat chocolate/cookies/crisps etc in the evening. Then I praised myself for staying in my calorie goal. Over time I ended up…
  • Because they have calories in them.. some things like spinache/lettuce/cucumber I don't bother weighing because they are so few calories. But fruit and other veg like sweetcorn i do. Otherwise i would be eating 100-200 calories a day and not logging it. For people with a lot to lose it probably wont make much different.…
  • When I was a teenager my dad used to call me fat and make fun of my weight constantly. It makes me really sad looking at old photos because I actually looked normal and healthy but at the time I felt like I was huge. Now I'm an overweight adult. I don't need anyone to tell me I'm overweight. I'm not a moron... I do buy my…
  • Here part of cooking for other people is planning enough for everyone to eat but not so much that there's lots of waste/leftovers. So if you let everyone take what they want then some people will take too much and others might not get enough. It's just cultural differences. No need for people to get on their high horse…
  • I don't know if it's a UK thing but generally whoever is cooking dishes up everyone's food. Sometimes they might put a dish of something on the table for people to serve themselves, but not usually the whole meal. The sauces/gravy are also left on the table for people to take what they want. It would be really unusual to…
  • I did Jason Vales 5-day juice cleanse. I bought the book, downloaded the app, and thought this was going to be the thing that kickstarted my diet. Physically I felt fine over the five days, maybe a little hungry. It was a pain having to prepare so much fruit/veg and clean the juicer several times a day. The pineapple juice…
  • I wanted to join weight watchers too. Not for the diet, but for the support, meet some other people losing weight, get weighed and share success. £6 a week though.. no thanks! Wish there were other groups in my area :(
  • I don't eat breakfast because it also makes me feel sick to eat early in the morning. Sometimes I eat a late breakfast at the weekend which is okay. I tried forcing myself to have breakfast to be healthy and it just made me miserable, no matter what I had. I have a long commute into work and there's nothing worse then…
  • I think the OP knows that the nutritional lable will contain the right info. But that doesn't mean some products still aren't misleading. Like tic tacs saying 'no sugar' on the front. If a 500ml drink has the calorie content on huge letters on the front, most people would assume that's for the whole bottle and won't look…
  • If I'm eating something I view as a 'treat' rather than for nutrition, like a piece of chocolate, then I try to eat it slowly and savour it. For most food I don't really think about it since I already have my portions measured out. Sometimes I need a meal that I can eat quickly and it's less important that I enjoy it.
  • Was it a prepackaged mix? If the serving size in the database is 1/9 of the packet, then log 3/4s of a serving. 3/4s of 1/9 is the same as 1/12.
  • I have apple cider vinegar on the shelf for when I make red velvet cake. I don't use it for anything else. I don't need to nutrilise acid because I have a healthy functioning pancreas which does that for me. There's some logic to the idea that drinking it will make you feel so sick you won't want to eat and so will lose…
  • Try not to make huge changes. In the beginning when you're really enthusiastic it's easy to start making massive changes right away.I did the same but it's harder to maintain long term. Think about what your usual eating habits are and try to make your 'diet' as similar as possible while still keeping in your calorie…
  • I don't weight things that are packaged in single servings. I eye ball really low calorie food like spinache things which are difficult to weight like cooking oil and butter. I have quite an aggressive goal of 1000 calories below maintence so 100 cals here and there is not going to make a lot of difference. When I get to a…
  • I find homemade food the easiest to log because I know exactly what is in it. When I first started I would keep my phone on the counter and scan each item as I added to the recipe. Now that I have the most common meals I make in the recipe builder so it's much faster.
  • First 20lbs was was most noticeable on my back/shoulders.
  • You have to have a cheat day every week to keep your metabolism high.
  • I lost 20lbs and was disappointed because my jeans didn't feel any different at all. However I soon discovered A bunch of dressed that I'd bought but were too small now fit me. Before I couldn't get the zip up over my back/shoulders. Don't focus on just one part of your body because the fat may be coming off other places
  • How long did it take? I would consider skin removal surgery after i get to my goal weight, but I would probably wait a year or 2 to see how much tighten on it's own. Edit: sorry I just saw your post above that you've been maintaining for 7 years!
  • It's only cheating if you get on the scale with several layers of clothes. Then immediately weigh yourself naked, and convince yourself that the difference in weight is somehow fat loss.
  • ^this Not to say your personal trainer doesn't know anything. I'm sure they're hugely motivational and do have a lot of knowledge. But don't be afraid to question what people tell you. If you look around the forums you'll see lots of posts from people who have been given bad advice from nutritionists who peddle myths like…

  • I used to eat a huge fruit salad for breakfast every day. However it took so long to eat such a big volume of food! I had to get up earlier to make sure I hate time to eat it all before rushing off to work. Then I got terrible stomach aches on the train every morning. I switched to having weetabix with some strawberries.…

  • If I can fit fast food and chocolate in my calorie goal (and I can), then I don't need a cheat day.
  • I don't buy the 'diet' or 'low cal' version of food. The drop in taste isn't worth the small amount of calories difference. E.g. - ready made pasta bake for 600 cals which tastes really nice. -'diet range' pasta bake for 450 cals which tastes gross and watery and also weighs less! I drink diet soda though. It's definitely…
