Hi! I've been noticing a pattern around certain people who always feel it's okay to make comments about how much ( the huge amounts) of food that I eat.. usually followed by a comment about how I'm so skinny.. it really puts me off and offends me and just generally makes me uncomfortable. What is the best response to these comments/ behavior?
FYI I eat a lot more when losing weight than the average person because of how active I am.. I've been purposefully maintaining the last couple weeks due to vacation and stress but going back into dieting I feel nervous for the comments to increase again.. and they're almost always from someone much larger than me. Which makes it even more awkward.

Ignore them. What you choose to put in your body is your private concern.3

*removed post based on the comments below pointing out reasons for genuine concern.*0

Are they commenting because they are worried about you?

It wasn't that long ago you were trying to net 1200 calories (at 5ft 9) while exercising up to 2.5hrs per day and trying to lose 2lb per week when you weight was already on the lower end of the the BMI for your height.9 -
Hard to tell their motivation without knowing something about you.
Are you actually "so skinny" and therefore shouldn't be trying to lose weight? Then they could have genuine concern for your physical and emotional health.
If you aren't in fact skinny, it could be jealousy. What's your BMI to get a rough idea?
Do you actually eat "huge amounts" or just think you do? Cals per day and stats/activity.
In short - your response could vary from "thanks for your concern, I'll think about what you are saying" to "I'm fine, keep your beak out of my business".2 -
At the end of the day, it is your responsibility to know what is healthy for you. Other people may provide input but they aren't likely to have control over what you eat unless you starve yourself to the point of falling into a coma. It takes experience to figure out what to take from each person. I mostly ignore the comments of obese people because they have a skewed view of what is healthy. I had a pastor who would asked me on a number of occasions, "Have you been putting on weight?" Each time I discovered I had lost weight rather than gaining weight. A deacon once made the comment, "It's easier to keep the weight off than to lose it after you gain it." His comment came out of the blue, so I'm pretty sure it was a polite way of him saying, "You're starting to gain weight." I wish I had listened to him.
People generally don't say anything when you are obese. When you are slightly overweight they tend to say, "You're looking good." When you are at a healthy weight they tend to say, "You don't need to lose any more weight." At lower weights they begin to start asking, "Are you sure you're eating enough?"
The only appropriate response to any of these comments is to say something like "Thank you for your concern." Regardless of whether they are correct in their assessment or not, people who make comments about your weight are generally concerned for you.0 -
