Anyone have a time in the evening they try not to eat past?

I've been making some pretty poor food choices late in the evening. I eat well during the day but I've started a medication that makes my appetite go up and once I get snacking at night I find it near impossible to stop. I was thinking of giving myself a rule of "no food after 8pm" to help keep me out of the snacks. I think I do best with a clear cut plan. Anyone do something similar? Does it help? I was setting aside calories for snacks at night but I'm eating waaaaay over.

I have recently been eating only until dinner and then waiting 12 - 15 hours to eat again. Knowing that dinner is my last food for the day helps keep me from snacking. I drink tea all evening if I want and I go to bed if I'm getting tempted. The "hard and fast" rule I've set for myself is working very well for me!6

As long as I am not actually sleeping, I am game for putting food in my mouth.24

I try to not eat after 830ish. If I can't sleep due to hunger, I might eat a couple of grapes (4-5) and drink water. I find something else to keep me distracted & out of the kitchen. Hope that helps...2

Tblackdogs, what type of tea do you drink at night that doesn't cause you to stay awake? I will loose sleep if I drink tea after 5 PM.2

I pre-log snacks so if I'm peckish in the evening, then I have the available calories to eat something. If not, then I add them to another day during the week.3

I weigh myself once per day, the second thing every morning. I know those daily weight variances don't mean much by themselves, but none the less I enjoy seeing the occasional progress and recording it in a spreadsheet. So I usually refrain from eating or drinking after dinner. It does nothing for my health and fitness necessarily but increases the likelihood of that early morning opportunity for self-satisfaction.5

I leave most of my calories for the evening and night.2

I have a rule to not eat outside meals, and my meals are breakfast, lunch and dinner. Timing of meals depends on my schedule that day.7

No, I do not have a cut-off time. A big part of that is that in addition to my handyman work during the day, I have a part-time evening job and don't get home until 11:30. I'm not one that can come straight from work and fall into bed, so I'm going to be up for a while and eating is a given since that job is custodian and I'm on my feet and moving for the entire shift.0

I don't have any particular time I stop eating, but I think it can certainly be a valid strategy for people who have difficulty with adherence to their calorie goal due to late night snacking.

Yep ... when I go to bed. I don't eat in bed.4 -
I don't eat after dinner, which I usually have between 7pm & 8pm.
I used to save calories for evening snacks, but I found myself depriving myself of nutritious food during the day so that I could eat chocolate/cookies/crisps etc in the evening. Then I praised myself for staying in my calorie goal. Over time I ended up saving more and more calories for the evening. Then anytime I fell off the wagon I would continue my 'nighttime eating' habit but to excess.
So I decided to break the habbit. I might have a snack during the day but I don't have any after my dinner. It was hard for a couple of days but the cravings do go away. Now I sleep better, I don't crave or eat sugar? I have bigger lunches which keep me happier at work. And I don't feel tired all the time!
In general it doesn't matter what time you eat for weight-loss and a lot of people on the forums will say 'eat when you want', 'just save calories for the evening'. That's one option, but you have to find the best strategy for you.9 -
I stop eating at 8pm, might have a cup of herbal tea or something like that but no more food. It gives me a couple of hours to digest before going to sleep and I wake up feeling much lighter and healthier2

I have a rule that I don't eat after I brush my teeth. Brushing my teeth is the last thing I do before I go to bed.. Just before that is eating a few pieces of dark chocolate.1

I don't eat after dinner but I tend to have dinner fairly late (around 8-8:30) so I'm not really hungry again between then and bed. The main time when snacking is a problem for me is late afternoon/early evening. It's really difficult for me not to grab a snack before I get on the train home.0

I don't snack, which is helpful to me.
In the evenings I eat dinner, maybe a dessert immediately after dinner (if it's a day where I fit that in) and nothing after that. Not having a habit of snacking in the evening when I don't really need more food (I ate all I needed before that) is helpful for me, although my worst snacking temptation is always work (not snacking at work is equally helpful).
I also often eat dinner quite late (9 pm) because I get home late. I think that helps limit any temptation to snack, although I often go to bed late too, of course.1 -
I do Intermittent fasting so typically start eating around 12ish and finish at 6ish and 6 or 7 would be my cut off. I don't really get the urge to snack in the evening as I'm having fairly big meals around half 5 or 6.
As humans we tend to have more willpower in the morning after waking up so, it only makes sense to use that portion of the day for fasting and then the evening time should be a lot more controlled. I have this routine down to a tee now and it's piece of cake. Even If i do get peckish in the evening I know I've had my calories and it's time to wind down for bed anyways.
IF i do have calories left and I feel like i need something to eat I will have a couple pieces of dark chocolate or some nuts. Find out what works best for you and stick to it.0 -
For weight loss reasons? No.
For sleep quality reasons? Definitely. I don't like having food sloshing around in my stomach while I'm trying to sleep so I usually try to eat my last meal at least 2 hours before bedtime.1 -
I don't eat after dinner and dinner for me is 4-4:30pm.2

I stop eating after dinner because I'm not hungry. Since I don't snack or graze, my meals are big and satisfying and they hold me over for a long time.
So it's not done intentionally. I'm just not hungry after dinner.3 -
No, if I have calories to spare I'll eat them regardless of what time it is.2

What time do you go to bed?
If I stopped eating at 4:30 ... it would be 8 to 9 hours before bed, and 18 hours before I ate again!0 -

Try to be in bed by 9-9:30 - everyone always thinks it's crazy but I like it (I'm usually very hungry by the time I'm up eating breakfast at 7am).0 -
Make dinner bigger! I used to hoard calories for the good snacks and *kitten* after dinner but they aren't really filling foods so they are really just a 'mouth experience' more than anything nutritional or satisfying. Eating more of the veggies and meat and whatnot at lunch and dinner keeps those cravings to a minimum. Also once I floss and brush I am disinclined to eat any more.2

I find I do best if I don't eat after dinner. Not because there's some magical time people should stop eating but because I'm a huge grazer. If I allow myself to snack, it soon becomes a 600 calorie "snack", which does't usually fit into my daily calories. I am also trying to not stack between lunch and dinner either.2

I do the opposite. I have a time of day I try not to eat before (2:00 p.m.). But sometimes I do. It's not a hard and fast rule, more of a guideline.3

I put off eating as long as i can during the day so that i can eat at night (when i'm actually hungry).3
-
I stop eating between 3 and 4pm. I go to bed at 7, so there’s usually 3-4 hours between eating and sleeping. I get heartburn if I eat closer to bed time.1
