  • I got rid of them as I went along, either giving to charity (goodwill), selling on eBay or giving to friends/family. I bought most of my clothes second hand as I was losing and still do now I can reliably buy something in my size and know it will fit. Went from size (US) 16 to size 6
  • Walking much more, all the usual tricks of parking further away from the school at drop off in the morning, further away from work, taking 20 minutes to walk each lunch break, choosing the furthest car park away from a meeting venue and taking the children out to the countryside at least once at the weekend (they now love…
  • Started Jan 17 at 200lbs, hit goal in September 17 at 140lbs though currently at 133lbs. Age 45 and 5'6. I had to eat carbs and high sugar as eating very low fat whilst awaiting gallbladder surgery.
  • My NSV is that after 10 months of a very restrictive diet due to a health issue and having in recent weeks to start to retrain my brain to a new way of looking at food, this evening I have enjoyed wine and crisps and I don't know and I don't care how many calories or grams of fat were involved...
  • A newbie to maintenance here, but I don't force myself to eat if I'm not hungry, I would eat back a hundred or so and save the others for a glass or two of wine at the weekend
  • For those that wanted my recipe/technique the amounts below are for one portion so simply multiply as required. 40g rolled oats 10g oat bran 250ml water 50ml whole milk Generous pinch of salt Put oats and oat bran in a saucepan with the milk and water and bring slowly to the boil, stirring. Turn down the heat and simmer…
  • My son and I make our oats on a Sunday night, we use a mix of rolled oats and oat bran, mainly water and some whole milk, cook for 20 mins, lower heat and cook for another 5, stirring throughout, add frozen fruit, this week it was cherries, allow to cool and then put on the fridge. We have porridge every morning, I reheat…
  • I hope you are not waiting as long as I did either @cronus70, I didn't notice the hair issue until about a month ago, however having read up a little it is likely that the damage was done about three months ago. @thecharon I think it most likely to be the lack of fat and low calorie diet, I struggled with MFP protein goals…
  • @rainbowbow that sounds tough, sorry to hear you are also suffering, I have been fortunate to always have thick hair and I've only ever lost it before following pregnancy, which is normal. Because my hair is naturally thick and I have it cut short the loss doesn't show much, I notice it in the shower mainly. I can imagine…
  • @rheddmobile, sorry to hear you've been having trouble too, hopefully we will both be slightly more hirsute by Christmas!
  • @jgnatca thank you for such a quick response, I am adjusting my macros to account for the fat, much easier now to hit my protein goals when I can eat some fat!
  • Congratulations!
  • Congratulations, just started maintenance and it's great to see others continuing to succeed
  • I had a similar incident the other day, I've only been in maintenance for a few weeks and still have to eat very low fat as awaiting gallbladder removal, I've been waiting since Jan 17 but surgery is finally booked for a couple of weeks time. My team at work had booked a local restaurant for our Christmas lunch and emailed…
  • Just to balance the fat question, I eat less than 15g fat a day for medical reasons and don't have dry lips, we're all different though. Vitamin E can help with dry skin and when mine do get dry due to wind/ cold in winter I find a thick coating of petroleum jelly before bed and a good quality lip balm helps hugely.
  • Peri menopause sufferer here, I have lost over 50lbs since Jan 2017 eating high carb/ low fat...I always like to buck the trend! Other than that I've just followed MFP guidance on calories.
  • Single full time working mum of two here, no contact with dad, so unless they are at school they are with me. During the week I park about 1000 steps from my office and use my half hour lunch break to walk and eat at my desk. On nice evenings we all go out for a half hour walk, doing this notmally nets me around 10000…
  • Totally amazing, and well done for not giving up!!
  • I've posted the first photo before, this was me in April 16 at roughly 210lbs, the second was taken two weeks ago, new haircut, and I was really shocked at how I looked, my brain has finally caught up with my body! About 145lbs in the second photo, started in Jan 17 at 198lbs.
  • @LauraInTheWater you look great, and that's not a round face, you have a heart shaped face <3
  • Hi, fellow Brit here, I have two small children, well both under 10 so smallish, and a desk job 5 days a week, I invested in a cheapie Fitbit off Amazon and was amazed at how quickly my walks added up in terms of calories, for instance today we walked up to the high street, 4000 steps, did a shop at Tescos and went for a…
  • I got lots from charity (thrift) shops and I am an eBay addict! Trousers with belt loops are a must and tops with stretch can fit over a range of sizes. I took and still take huge pleasure in buying clothes I wouldn't have dreamt of wearing only 8 months ago, enjoy!
  • Fresh fennel and dried fennel seeds are fantastic with fish, also agree totally with lemon/ citrus. In our house we use smoked paprika, ground cumin, and chilli regularly, along with Moroccan rubs with harissa for grilled meats and fish and fresh ginger in a variety of soups
  • And I am evidence that high carb/ high sugar/ calorie deficit works, eat very low fat as awaiting gallbladder removal and can't tolerate much at all, always over on sugars and meet carb macro goals, lost 54lbs using this combination since Jan 2017. I have in the past had a diagnosis of PCOS, though I doubted its validity,…
  • As a trained nurse I understand the need to eat well and cheap! I would suggest pasta salads with lots of veggies and protein, thinking boiled egg, tinned tuna, cooked ham etc. Nuts and dried fruits make good snacks. Other possible cheap meal ideas I use for lunches are vegetable soups, add lentils, rice or small pasta…
  • Congratulations!
  • Indian tonic water is great for symptomatic relief from cramps, its the quinine.
  • Been eating very low fat since Jan 17 as awaiting gallbladder removal, lost 52lbs since then and I am very close to goal, I have been advised to eat refined sugar by two registered dietitian to allow me to meet my calorie goals.
  • Perimenopausal here, I go through TOM every 10 days roughly, the water weight gain still sometimes gets to me despite knowing full well what is causing it. I also use Happy Scale and a quick look back reassures me that everything is still on track :)
  • Not bashing but shocked that you would be precribed medication known to cause a rise in HR and BP when you alreaday have issues with your BP, what monitoring did the PA put in place for your BP and is your PCP aware you are taking phentermine? Whilst I agree it is your decision to take or not to take it, it is the…
