  • I should add, I had a laparoscopic procedure without any complications. It was Tuesday before Thanksgiving, and I avoided doing much through Sunday. I didn't know how I'd handle work on Monday, but it turned out I was ready to go, 100%. I don't recall any restrictions but that is meaningless--I can't recall what I had for…
  • I have always hated lifting and never stuck with it. Now, I'm considering going back to it--and/or some other muscle-building activities for my upper body and core. My main concern as I age is mobility, but honestly, strength and flexibility (and balance and endurance) are all really important. Running, walking, and…
  • I had more discomfort than I expected, mostly from the gas they use to fill you up during the surgery. I stayed inactive for 4-6 days and then was just fine, back to my normal routine. It was barely a blip on the scale, given the big picture.
  • Congrats on your weight loss thus far; an amazing accomplishment. I have nothing to add other than having had some significant water gains that can take a couple of weeks to level out--always connected to travel and eating out while on vacation, in my case. I agree with others who have said you need to pursue a medical…
  • I have had a similar experience, with more vigorous exercise. You could try slowing down and walking longer. Or get up and get it done at 5 am--you will probably find it quite easy to go to bed in the evening if you start your day that early. I use melatonin to aid in falling asleep if I'm having problems. I take it 1-2…
  • Hiking 10-14 miles a day on a 6 day hillwalking vacation in Scotland, along the Rob Roy Way. Glorious weather and views every single day. I think the Scots are fooling us by claiming poor weather! I've visited twice in the latter half of June now and have had 1 day of poor visibility each time, and almost no rain. No bugs,…

  • Hi! I was here last year and got side tracked after losing 20 lbs--I lost a few more, then recently started to creep back up again. It's not easy, but it is simple--take in fewer calories than your body needs each day/week. I may try some different things this time around; maybe not. All I know is that I need to get back…
  • Well said, and funny.
  • My O.B. said I had a metabolic disorder of pregnancy. Not sure what that meant, except (1) it wasn't gestational diabetes; and (2) despite gaining tons and drinking a lot of water all the time, my blood and urine tests showed I was "starving and dehydrated" whenever I had to be hospitalized for pre-term labor. I gained…
  • I love it while I’m doing it, not just after. Yes, there are parts of each run I don’t like much ( usually the first part, as I’m warming up and finding my rhythm), but I know I’ll feel awesome soon if I keep going. Try slowing down and see if you enjoy it more.
  • Nope. I know better than to put anything on my face before running :) and use hats/sun avoidance techniques to prevent more sun damage to my face.
  • Thanks; that could certainly be related. I'm right under a vent at my new work site.
  • No. The symptoms, and heat on and off over the past few days, are the only changes that I can identify. I think the symptoms started before the heat went on, though. Can't say for sure.
  • It is never a well meant greeting and your continued defense of it is condescending and ignorant. Maybe you should just accept that you have no idea what you are talking about.
  • It wouldn't bother you b/c you haven't heard it every Effing day of your Effing life--having other people tell you how you "should" present yourself, etc. And please don't try to defend yourself--there is no way you can make any argument we WOMEN haven't heard about this issue. And every single one of them is simply wrong.…
  • You are my soul sister. I hate cooking, and food rarely tastes awesome to me if I have prepared it myself. No matter how good it is--just not worth the effort. My health and mobility for the LONG term are on the line, however, so I do it.
  • Don’t keep them in the house. Let your kids pick something 1x/ day. It doesn’t save $$ to buy in larger quantities if you have to keep replacing what you are. Your h can get his own. Eliminating the constant snacking will be good for everyone. Make it intentional and enjoyable, then move on to something else.
  • Yep, the math is in your favor. You are showing a greater gain for many reasons, but not bc you’ve gained several pounds of fat. Chalk it up to experience and get back to basics—log, plan, eat, relax. It will be ok.
  • We all know that eating out or eating meals fixed by others means losing some control over the calorie counting. There is nothing wrong with that—as long as you develop healthy mechanisms for dealing with it. Becoming anxious or fearful and feeling guilty are not particularly healthy mechanism, esp if they contribute to…
  • I’m in. I need new motivation. CW: 226
  • I've been working out more or less for decades, with long periods of 2x/week (barely) and other times when I am out every other day or more. I am the Queen of Excuses. The one thing I've learned that works best is, I promise myself I can stop if it is awful. I'm a runner, and I usually love my runs once I get going. So by…
  • Tacos . . . mmmmmmm. Sorry; what was the question?
  • I make a couple of low-fat quiche on Sundays and take a piece to work most days. Very filling!
  • Yes, that’s why I’m asking. I hope to get a good referral from someone who has gotten work done there.
  • I think it is also important to think about what you can do over the long haul. Even if fit, getting older slows ya down some. And what type of work are you doing? Nurses will certainly get in plenty of exercise in a 12 hour shift, if working in a hospital. My sister, a nurse practitioner, works 12 hour shifts in a walk-in…
  • Does your gym have a scale? You could try weighing there more frequently to get used to the very daily fluctuations you will see. I weigh daily and will occasionally weigh before and after a work out, or after a meal, or something other than my usual "naked, first thing in the morning after using the toilet" routine. The…
  • I haven't had TV for what feels like forever--5 years? Maybe 10? I quit watching it long before I canceled cable TV service, so I can't remember. So IF I see an ad, it tends to shock me :) Like happened when I was watching "free" HULU--yuck! No tolerance anymore for interrupted viewing! Probably the hardest thing for…
  • Food scales can be a pain--but no more so than measuring cups and spoons, and so much more accurate. It's also a check on what I eat away from home. I have no idea what a serving should look like (most of the time) and it's not worth eating out much b/c it will make my efforts less effective.
