  • My in-laws gave us a box of Lindor balls so lately we've been having those. They are about 80 cals a pop which seems ridiculous given how small they are (but they are essentially made of cream and sugar, so go figure). Luckily, they are so sweet and rich that I find it fairly easy to only have one, but if you want an…
  • Today I had Belvita cocoa biscuits but I have loads of apples so I'm going to make apple and cinnamon overnight oats for tomorrow :)
  • I work in an office 37.5 hours a week where everyone is pretty much always sat down during working hours, and I'm one of the only ones there who isn't stick-thin! You seem to have received some pretty solid advice here but I just thought I'd put that out there - having a desk job doesn't mean you have to put on weight :)
  • Emotional/stress eating. I am one of those people who stuff their faces when stressed, sad or annoyed so that I don't have to think about it. Permitting snacks has helped to some extent. Oh, and I have to try a bit of everything at occasions. Doesn't matter if it's a tiny amount: I have to try and make it fit my calories…
  • I trust them. They're not going to be 100% accurate but the odds of them being off by 250 (my daily deficit) are pretty slim. Where there's any doubt, I'll try to find the highest calorie database entry and log from that. Weights printed on packaging, on the other hand...
  • I haven't been taking photos or measurements so it's hard to be sure. But so far it feels like back first, now hips and thighs, and my face is starting to look a bit slimmer.
  • My most calorific meal of the day on MFP is the one called 'snacks'! Most of those are post-dinner snacks with my partner but I also usually snack during the day, especially at work. I find my job quite boring and repetitive most of the time and being bored makes my mind wander onto the thought of food. I do however try to…
  • I'm on 1460 at which MFP has me losing half a pound a week (31yo woman, 5'3"). In reality I'm losing slightly faster than that, which I guess is because I almost never log exercise calories (though by "exercise" I mean I walk for 30-40 mins a day 5x a week as part of my commute which probably doesn't burn a huge amount…
  • So agree with you on baked potatoes. They're a bit of a lunchtime staple here in the UK but I never eat them because I really don't like the taste of bland potato, which is what 90% of eating a baked potato is like. Sweet potatoes are amazing - I loved them long before I tried losing weight! I don't mind them the sweet…
  • "Spaghetti" made with any kind of vegetable. I've tried courgetti and despite loving courgettes I just couldn't get behind it. I'd rather just have a smaller amount of real pasta and really enjoy it! Ditto alternative pizza bases. If you like them then fine, but other than that I just don't see the point when I find it…
  • Ha, you sound like me! Not quite as extreme as having 1,500 calorie meals + snacks in the evening, but yes, I generally try to save around half of my calories just for dinner and the inevitable post-dinner snacks. It's hard to eat a lot during the day anyway because of work, so that makes it easier. My highest-calorie…
  • I've lost 12lbs so far, from about 154. No-one has noticed yet and tbh I think I still look the same, though some of my clothes feel looser. I think it's just because I wasn't that overweight to begin with, so the difference will take a while to show. I still have around 20lbs left - and while I don't care what others…
  • Haven't seen it in the UK. I tend to just have a really tiny amount of normal ice cream :)
  • I'm going to go over by around 300 today, this thread makes me feel a bit better ;) In my case it was a friend's wedding so a worthwhile calorie expenditure. Back to normal tomorrow :)
  • When I feel myself flagging, I browse the Success Stories forum on here. It's so inspiring to me seeing people's progress and it gives me the push to keep working towards my own goal.

  • This has to be one of the most inspiring things I've read on here. Well done on your achievement and although this was posted a couple of years ago, I hope you are still healthy and happy :)
  • 1 ready-made meringue nest from a supermarket (50 cals) crumbled up in a bowl with some Greek yoghurt (as much or as little as you like), some fresh raspberries/blueberries and (optionally) about 10g of melted dark chocolate drizzled over the top. The calorie count varies depending on how much yoghurt you have, but I…
  • Like many others, I don't count seasonings of any kind (herbs, spices or added salt) but I do count condiments like barbecue sauce, mustard and balsamic vinegar (usually put some on lettuce). Sometimes I don't count the lettuce itself because it's got so few calories in it it doesn't matter unless I'm close to my goal for…
  • Wiltshire here :)
  • I'm 5'3" and I started at 11 stone (154 lbs). 9 stone (126 lbs) isn't the lightest I've ever been, but I still haven't been south of 10 stone in years. So a nice 2-stone loss seemed like a good place to start. I suspect I will be wanting to lose more after that, maybe down to 115 lbs if I'm disciplined enough. But 126 lbs…
  • Your calves look great to me! Mine (genuinely) are huge - I only have about 30 lbs to lose but I can barely buy boots to fit without getting wide-fit ones from specialist retailers :( I'm hoping that losing weight will help. They feel quite muscly but hopefully I'll still lose a couple of inches...
  • OP, you sound remarkably similar to me :) 5'3, 31 next month, started at 154 and hoping to get to 126 as an initial goal and take it from there! Add away - I don't have any friends yet but my diary is public. Good luck everyone!
  • Really interesting to read people's responses to this, as this is something I've been struggling with as well. I've found I've come to rely a bit more on 'component' meals (say, a piece of chicken with some plain carbs like rice etc. and vegetables on the side) as it's easier to count those. But I love stir-fries,…
  • I eat a packaged breakfast 5 days a week and some sort of prepackaged/calorie-counted meal for lunch probably 2-3 days a week. So not entirely, but quite a big chunk. Down 8lbs since late June.
  • Today I managed to run further than I ever have before without taking a walking break. Also managed to eat a proper full English breakfast (sausage, egg, bacon, black pudding, hash brown, beans, fried mushrooms and tomatoes) and astonishingly, didn't go over on calories for the day :)
  • Barbecue sauce with vegetables to make them more palatable :D No milk with cereal except muesli. Crunchy over soggy, every time! I can't stand raisins in sponge cake or bread products - I will literally sit there and pick all of them out before I take a bite. But I love fruitcake and Christmassy stuff: panettone, stollen,…
  • Granola, Greek yoghurt and blueberries is my slightly luxurious non-workday breakfast. The granola brand I get (Tesco Finest Seven Nut Granola) packs almost 250 calories for a 50g portion, but you can easily get lower-cal granolas, or alternatively make your own with some toasted oats and a few nuts or seeds.
  • Don't think we get those in the UK - which is probably just as well! Cinnamon sugar is basically like my equivalent of crack :D
  • There is a jar of Nutella in the house. This is okay, because I haven't had any in months. I know the jar is there, though, and every time I toast a half-bagel to have with some peanut butter I think 'well I could put Nutella on this instead...' but if I do, I will remember how amazing it is and then Bad Things will…
  • I started out monthly but I might switch to weekly: I weighed myself yesterday morning (2 weeks after my last weigh-in, just to see where I was at) and despite weighing at consistent time of day etc. I don't entirely trust the results. It's a bit of a "to each their own" thing. I don't think I could ever do daily, though.…
