I've found that it doesn't matter whether a Fitbit is accurate so much as that it is consistent with itself. Once you've benchmarked what it takes to do 25k steps or 50 floors (or whatever your goal) in a day/week/month, you've established some analytical data that you can use to bootstrap yourself to the next level.

I'm on the horns of this dilemma right now. I've gone from 15 pairs of pants I felt comfortable in to 3 pairs in the past two months. That's at least $2k worth of pants that have become worthless in fairly short order. If the MC Hammer look makes a comeback, I'm golden. Otherwise, it's time find a tailor.

I weigh in every day. Maxed out alcohol, salt and exercise yesterday and gained 3.5 lbs overnight. When I got on the scale this morning, I laughed because I knew exactly what happened. If you're ever faced with the decision to have more information or less, always take more. Why would you not?

You need to take it extremely easy at first. Four years ago I went from 372 (my highest ever) to 308 in about 7 months. I don't eat out very often anymore but I had to go into downtown Denver on Friday and stopped for a couple of Torchy's Beef Fajita tacos while down there. Didn't think much of it until I got home and logged them. 2880 mg's of sodium!! Arrrrg!!! Damn it! Didn't even realize I was binging on salt.

I say body recomp. I log my weight every day and and do measurements each Sunday. I plateaued on the scale about a week ago and haven't lost an ounce in 6 days, however there isn't a single part of my body that isn't narrower than it was a week ago ('cept my thighs).

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I do more than sit ups each day, I just never record any exercises in MFP other than the steps sent over by Fitbit. Then I just eat under that number. Plus, I'm 297. I lose 10 calories each time I blink.

I game Fitbit & MFP the same way they game me. For example, I do at least 100 sit ups a day and have never recorded one.
