If you are learning how to swim (laps) you will get tired quickly and out of breath. Once you figure out how to breath while swimming, you will not get tired quickly. Far as calories burn I usually burn 350 during 40 minute 1 mile swim. Swimming is good for cardio and joints. Keep learning

I have a low carb Monster every morning. more for taste and habit now, I don't like coffee. Then another in the afternoon. I guess I really don't get energy from them because I could have one in evening and still go to sleep. I do notice in the morning after a Monster, I will get odd feeling until I eat breakfast. My goal…

thanks for input I weighed the banana i ate this morning 75 grams(no peel) and also slice of bacon 36 grams uncooked. Not sure if I can delete all food entries and start over

I normally only wear my Garmin watch during swim, bike or walk exercises. Track performance and calories. Yesterday I wore the watch all day. I now see how it works with MFP and tracks my movement and see calories used throughout the day.
-
my garmin was inputting the same swim workout twice, (probably bug in system) and I would delete one of the swim entry's for that day.

I looked up my current foods and changed to OZ or grams. I just weight a sweet potato 300 grams and I can see where calories can be different than choosing full or half.

sorry didn't mention I use scale for chicken and meats. Didn't think about for bananas and the potatoes. Will look into that info. I don't measure my vegetables, figure they could be unlimited. I use my Garmin watch to track walks and swim for calories, sometimes it double enters and I have to delete one. I try and only…

I would carry PB sandwich with me on bike. It provided energy and sat OK in my stomach. After gatorade/water and GU packets the PB sandwich provided a different taste. I would cut sandwich in 1/2 and wrap individually to easily eat and ride.

congrats on making a healthy change and keep it up

I live in suburbs of Chicago and go to Dick Ponds running store. Make sure you get a shoe that is fitted for your foot and ankle. If you went to Fleet Feet they would have fitted you also.

If you are following Hal’s plan it should have ended on race week. With last 2 weeks being taper. You ran 12 so you are good for distance. Hal’s plan probably has one more 7-8 mile and couple 3 miles. Final week 1-2 miles couple days and rest the last couple before race day. Plan how what you are eating the night before…

Tried new workout at my club. They are offering free classes to new year. Zone60. Mix of cardio and body weight and free weight. Heart rate zones and class 60 min. Now need to figure out how to get MyZone monitor to sync with MyFitnessPal or manual entry

Congrats on signing up. You will enjoy the event and it will go by quick. Triathletes are very helpful and like to give advice on setup, bike service and food during the race. We are all different size and age. Don’t burn yourself on the bike because you have to run afterwards. You will see people walking and that is OK.…

don't wait 20 years. Had hip replaced at 48 and now 54, completed Ironman and still run after replacement. When hip started hurting I went to a hip doctor and he told me wait until I could not walk. I didn't like that answer. I went to another hip doctor and he said since I was in good shape and still young (48) to replace…

lot of good advice from other runners. Since this is your first 1/2 marathon, set your goal to finish and enjoy the finish line. You will then get the running bug and want to do another 1/2 or full. Find another 1/2 to run in 2020 and then train for faster pace. shot out for Hal Higdon training

Monster LO carbs no sugar, I like the taste. Never liked coffee

Training Peaks and Garmin connect. If you are looking for multi sport workouts and track performance look into Training Peaks

awesome job and it is cool being 51 and in shape

I have used Hal program for a couple of 26.2. You will be good with 11 miles. His programs also tell you to rest during last 2 weeks of training and cut down miles. For a first timer it is hard to understand but less miles and resting your legs will pay off on race day. Read the chapters on food. good luck and enjoy the run

awesome job on finishing your first 13.1 race, now you will get the running bug. Keep getting the medals and seeing how you place. You can do a 26.2 next.
