Thank you. That's exactly how I feel, and appreciate everyone's input.

I hear ya. But my Fit Bit has become a real pal in reminding me to move regularly and in tracking my heart rate. For my purposes, if it's close, it will help me to reach my weight loss goals. I'm 145 lbs down.

I swam a mile's worth of laps.

I LOVE restaurants that include calorie counts on their menus. More need to provide that info.

I'm so pleased that after 30 years I am starting to buy clothes that aren't labeled as plus size!

I'm just a hair under 5' tall, and 58 years old. I've lost 140 lbs in 17 months by sticking to 1100 --1200 calories per day. Any more than that, and I did not lose, even with regular exercise. I hope to eat 1300 or 1400 calories per day when I hit maintenance, which I hope to be in another 25 lbs. Things have really slowed…

Although I haven't cut out any food groups, I eat sparingly foods that don't make them "worth the calories," and save my splurges for special occasions. That means sugar, added fats, and carbs are kept at a minimum most days, except for my evening snack, which might be a few pretzels or a cup of low calorie popcorn, plus a…

I'm not sure, but I believe if I'm only consuming 1,200 calories per day, they need to be doing the best possible work for my body.

Good for you, keeping active during the winter! I live in PA, and the weather has been awful here as well. I never wanted to join a gym, but I had no choice this winter. Best of luck to you!

What a happy thought! Thanks for your kind words!

Hi! I don't need to see the surgeon again because I didn't have the surgery. But he was very supportive the whole time I was planning the surgery, and also when I informed him I had chosen not to do it. When he told me how much weight I could expect to lose through surgery, he was counseling me as to reasonable outcomes…

Strength training has minimal effect on a considerable amount of loose skin. It tightens and shapes the underlying muscle, which is a good thing. No one is doubting that. But strength training really doesn't cause those extra folds of skin to shrink up, especially if you're a mature person, if you've repeatedly gained and…

I just wanted to say I get it, and I feel for you. My breasts are much smaller and saggier now than before my 140 lb. weight loss, and no matter what the measurements say, I simply cannot wear anything with a molded cup, period. My breasts don't conform to the shape of the molded cup. I swim in them. Specifically, my…

For the love of Pete, no child is guaranteed parents who will live into old age. I had two young, loving, slender (just saying), hardworking, family centered parents who were devoted to each other and their three children. Then my dad randomly got cancer and died, leaving behind a 42-year-old widow and three teenaged…

Thanks for sharing this. It gives me something to think about.

Thanks for your comments, ccrdragon, melalaxdave, and psuLemon.

Hmmm. Those are good points. My triglycerides, A1C, and HDL are all good. I don't know my CRP. I should investigate more!

If it is related to weight loss, yes, it should be temporary. I still find it a bit upsetting, because my cholesterol had always been normal, even at my highest weight. I guess I'm just being nervous, but I was hoping to hear from someone else who had the same experience and it resolved itself.

My cardiologist, who told me the same thing, isn't clickbait. Lol Thanks for the good wishes!

The point I'm trying to make is that my LDL has increased IN SPITE of diet and exercise, which sometimes happens. My cardiologist confirmed it. I tried to make that clear, but perhaps I didn't. Here's one article, but there are others:…

Thanks so much for bringing this up. I've lost 130 lbs and hope to reach my goal in the next six months--but maintenance scares the hell out of me!
-
My HDL is still normal, but my LDL has increased from optimal to high normal / slightly elevated. He says it could be related to my extreme weight loss ( I looked it up, and apparently it does happen), and if that's the case it should level off when my weight stabilizes. It could also because I'm 58, and elevated…

Thanks for asking this question. I'm the same way about my coffee, so the answers are helpful to me as well!

My weight was definitely a contributing factor, and some people are able to go without the cpap after losing enough weight. I've used my machine faithfully for three plus years, but I'd love to sleep without it. I guess only an updated sleep study will tell me.

Thanks, @AnnPt77 for an answer that was informative and also acknowledged my experience as real and understandable. As for @middlehaitch, @GottaBurnEmAll , @LisaMelton1 , and others: I do appreciate your words. For those of us who have worked very, very hard just to look older--at least in the face--the reality stings. I…

It helps me a lot. Whenever possible, I choose to eat at restaurants which post the calories of their meals, and I love restaurants which post their menus online so I can plan before I go. Truthfully, I avoid eating out as I have little control over the calories. But eating out occasionally is a treat.

Here's my story: When I was 160 lbs overweight with a BMI in the high 50's, I decided weight loss surgery was my best option, and my doctor agreed. I went through the required six months of dietary counseling, psychological testing, and educational components, and really dedicated myself to learning everything I could…

Before I got very far in my weight loss journey, I spent time with a dietitian and a psychologist. It was the psychologist who warned me to be prepared for when acqaintances thought I looked ill and wondered if I was sick. I thought I was prepared, but I wasn't. The truth is, I see it in the mirror every day. My doctor and…

I first answered when this post was new, and I'd like to update. My total weight loss now is about 115 lbs (age 58), and my saggy face and turkey neck have caused some people to wonder if I'm ill, let alone older than I actually am. I've exercised, hydrated, and moisturized the whole time, but the weight loss took its toll…
