Change in your lifestyle is by definition stressful. It's my unscientific opinion that changing mood may be a natural response to the added stress that comes from changing the way you're eating. I don't see it as being abnormal, although I didn't experience exactly the same when I started keto. For me, it was the repeated…

One week is not a sufficient period of time for any experiment involving body weight. People experience fluctuations in their measured weight that are perfectly reasonably explained over such short period of time such as:* electrolyte balance * constipation * inflammation * your scale needs new batteries

A mother of three... I'd recommend a pot of hot, almost boiling water. You can poach eggs quickly and conveniently, as well as reheat frozen precooked sausage or bacon for five with ease. Cleanup is as easy as rinsing out and wiping down your non-stick pot. Toasted english muffins for convenient breakfast sandwiches.

I bought a sit/stand desk converter. I also try to walk around more often and take the stairs.

Warning: Splenda is NOT sucralose. Splenda contains some sucralose but is largely starch. That being said, you'd have to use a lot of Splenda to accumulate calories. Each packet of Splenda will have about 3.5 calories. Carbohydrate for those watching your macros.

I'll remind you that I linked you to a search term to show how brisk walking is used to induce a state of Ketosis. If you want to learn more about ketogenic diets in general, change the search terms to ketogenic diet. The ketogenic diet (macronutrient ratio) has been very effective for me personally. I'm looking at studies…

Tracey, This I gathered from a wealth of published studies where ketosis is induced in the test subjects through exercise. I'll link you to a search term through Google Scholar here. The ketogenic diet, being a front-line medical therapy for a number of conditions, and unlike other diets, is fairly well studied. Including…

Woo on MFP means 'my feelings don't agree.'

I wholeheartedly endorse this advice. Weight doesn't tell us as much as our prior activity levels and performance.

Another piece of advice I've seen floated around is that it can help to do a lot of brisk walking to kick your body over into fat metabolism. That's the scuttlebutt. But then again, low-intensity exercise doesn't really hurt, so why not give it a try?

My understanding from the brochures (I did not develop a deep scientific understanding or look at more than one study) is that the main purpose of a ketogenic diet is to train the body to metabolize fat for energy, something that most bodies accustomed to a typical western diet (of primarily carbohydrates) is going to…

Under what parameters? Length of observation, control over subject eating? Without knowing what exactly this is talking about it's nearly meaningless.

Don't worry about it, one day will only kill your progress if you let it extend to more days or let those 'one days' happen more often. 1 gram of fat is 9 calories. That's 1/10th of one tablespoon of mayonnaise. Look at the bright side: now you know what to grab from the shelves of whole foods if you need portable survival…

If your heart is beating nearly three times per second from just walking and you're not having an anxiety attack, congratulations! You've earned a visit to the doctor to get an EKG and to discuss the need for a cardiac stress test. If your heart is beating 177 times per minute while you are merely walking and you normally…

Oh, and Siggi's icelandic style yogurt or a square of dark chocolate. It has some carbs, but it's an indulgence for me.

What has been working for me are Cobb salads (chicken, bacon, avocado, cheese, ranch dressing, etc., minus corn, minus croutons, etc.). But I've been trying to eat a high fat diet on an experimental basis. Otherwise, I tend to substitute lettuce leaves for buns and bread on sandwiches. I eat a lot of sauteed veggies.…

How is your hydration?

I'd walk a lot more - to lunch, around the neighborhood, take stairs, etc.

I quit sodas for about a month, but then I fell prey to caffeine-free Coke zero. If I close my eyes and pretend I can't smell anything I can almost pretend I'm drinking normal Coke, until my brain realizes that there are no calories and punishes me with a minor headache.

Sometimes you click reply on a thread thinking that it's another thread that is a lot shorter and has fewer replies. It happens.

It sounds to me like you have unusual challenges on your journey to health. I think my standard advice still applies here though: build up to new things, reinforce strong habits, celebrate small victories, and always get back on the horse. Much luck to you, I hope you keep an eye on the goal of being good to others and…

There's a terminology issue here. Substances like water and oxygen are toxic at certain concentrations/doses. Sugar sure can be toxic - pretty sure you'll die if you consume a few thousand grams in an hour.

Every liquid you drink is bound to be largely water. Regular soda by volume contains a significant amount of corn syrup and some alcoholic drinks contain significant amounts of - you guessed it - alcohol. Carbonated water is slightly acidic, although this becomes quickly neutralized by your saliva. Some IBS sufferers find…

In a dietary context, there is a difference between a fatty or oily fish and the rest. If you are eating fish for the omega 3 fatty acids, ALA, EPA, DHA, etc., you generally want to look at salmon, tuna, sardines, herring, mackerel, and trout. These are best prepared simply via steaming, broiling, or even grilling. Two or…
