Good luck @lindak39 For me I am getting back to tracking what I eat. I am posting here to be accountable. I have found that to be mindful and not mindlessly eat after dinner I post what I eat. During the holidays it's so hard to stay away from the homemade cookies and candy. Goal for the day is to stay under 1750 calories,…

Great suggestions and I follow many of them. I'll review the menu online and chose ahead of time so I can pre-log my food for the day. If you drink alcohol - so many of the cocktails are high in calories so decide what you are going to have ahead of time. This week I met some friends for happy hour at a Mexican restaurant…

I've been enjoying a half an apple with 1 TBS of peanut butter as a satisfying sweet snack. I am really struggling with being hungry so I've been trying to add some fat in a snack to provide some satisfaction. I agree that a very dark chocolate (again it has fat) really taps down that craving for sweets. My husband and I…

Looks like another more local social media site like NextDoor or Craig's list may have suggestions. May also want to try and find a runners club to find jogging partners. I've been to Fairbanks and there's definitely people there that I wouldn't want to run into on a trail by myself. I'm a hiker in Northern California and…

If it's just an overnight, make some yummy sandwiches (or get them made at a deli). When we backpack the first day is usually fresh food - supplemented by Peanut M&Ms, dried fruit, bars and powdered Gatorade to make High Sierra Cocktails with a small amount of Vodka we bring!!

The above questions are spot on. I too wonder about what level of calories is the right number for either maintenance or weight loss. My biggest issue is not wanting to be hungry so it's finding the level that I can lose a little each week and still stay in control. As other threads have said on this site is you need to…

I've been tracking but not posting. It's amazing the power of being intentional and explicit about goals. As soon as I give my self more wiggle room being in "maintenance" I go over on my eating. Last two days I didn't post goals and went over. JFT 6/13/19 Pretrack for maintenance Get a Father's Day card in the mail this…

@nlmackey98 I've used Instant Self Hypnosis by Forbes Robbins Blair to change habits. It requires that you can set aside quiet time regularly (about 20 minutes), read out load a script that puts you into a receptive mental state and then read an affirming script of actions and outcomes. I downloaded the book on my Kindle.…

We have Blue Apron delivered every week. I love it. Love to cook don't like grocery shopping or figuring out what to have for dinner. I always have leftovers so the calorie count is reasonable. I noticed that people don't include wine or coffee on their shopping list - perhaps this is my downfall???

JFT 6/10/19 Prelog meals Get some exercise - PT and ? Drink no calorie beverages Visit my mom Skip wine tonight at dinner

The day is almost gone and I forgot to post JFT but I did pretrack. Will post tomorrow.

Yesterday I was way over again. I am really having a tough time sticking to my meal plan. I think it's a combination of interpreting my fatigue as hunger and trying to feel better by snacking. This weekend I'll try grabbing a zero calorie beverage - tea, sparkling water, decaf coffee as my snacking. Fortunately we don't…

Low activity day yesterday (really fatigued) and high calorie day. Not a good combination. In looking at my food diary there were an unusually high processed foods of bread (In N Out burger) and pasta (leftovers from previous day) so today I'm really going to focus on high protein meals (eggs for breakfast), turkey chili…

I am so far behind on all the postings. Where did yesterday go? This problem with MyFitnessPal is bumming me out. Hard to get things posted and not posting steps from my Fitbit. JFT 6/6/19 1600 calories seems like the reasonable level with more steps and activity 4000 steps get some chores around the house done No snacking…

There were 141 posts since my last check in - too much to read this afternoon after our long drive. Good to be back home from a special long weekend with cherished friends. I enjoyed everything didn't go overboard but definitely ate more including a few deserts. I am looking forward to things getting back to normal. This…

PT went well yesterday. The therapist said that I way ahead of most and that I'd be getting full extension. Wasn't as grueling as everyone said. I probably did too much as we met our daughter for lunch afterwards and then I got my nail polish changed at a salon for my girls weekend. Given m energy level I'll be a couch…

@aubyshortcake Fingers crossed on the offer. So exciting!

@ajb1014 You look stunning in the dress. Fits perfect and I love the design. Yesterday's trip to the grocery store wiped me out! I ended up taking a nearly 3 hour nap. Currently a bit of a disconnect between what my mind would like to do and what my body is up for. JFT 5/29/19 PT appointment at 9:30 Pack for trip - we'll…

Yesterday was a complete rest day for me and now I am ready for getting out of the house. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since my surgery. Maybe I'll drive myself to the grocery store! This coming weekend I am getting together with a group of close friends (8 of us) for our annual Chick Weekend. We've been getting together for…

Our outing yesterday was going to the documentary The Biggest Little Farm. The theater had the fancy recliner seats so it worked out comfort wise but I was exhausted afterwards nevertheless. Such an interesting story of Apricot Lane Farms in Moorpark California https://www.apricotlanefarms.com/ and the journey to build up…

Yesterday devolved into a cheat day (as usual it was Saturday) . The family gathered at a cute coffee shop near the Mormon Temple (tour was interesting and very crowded) for breakfast, since I'd already had breakfast I was hoping it would be my lunch. Not! I ended up having lunch and then snacking throughout the day…

Not much to report from the couch today. Good news is my pre-tracking and no after dinner snacking is paying off at the scale. Today will be a full day. The Oakland Mormon Temple is hosting public tour after a major renovation. My brother-in-law lives right next to the temple and we park in their parking lot all the time…

I love the kindness on the thread. Stayed in the green, over 4000 steps, stayed awake until almost 9:30 (I've never understood how you night owls stay up so late). JFT 5/24/19 Pre track to 1500 calories Do PT exercises 2-3 Times Keep my husband company in the garden while he plants the 6 plants I bought nearly 3 weeks ago…

@cory17 Sorry that you're a candidate for hip surgery. I postponed my knee surgery for many years (successfully as I stayed very active with tennis and hiking). When I could no longer do the things I loved and I was prevented from doing bucket list things (hiking the Inca Trail) I finally pursued getting my surgery. It…

You are not alone. My own story is similar to yours though I'm older (64). For two years I took a slow and steady approach first just tracking calories and fitbit steps and the calorie calculations. My goal was that everyday I would burn up more calories than I ate. I lost about 15 pounds over 18 months then plateaued. I…

@nimackay98 My condolences for the loss of your step dad. My step dad was an important man in my life too and really more of a grandfather to my kids than my dad. @jacqui2494 I love gardening too. On days that I can't bear to go to the gym or go for a long walk I'll just go out into my garden with clippers in hand and an…

I tracked over 3000 steps on my fitbit, took a shower washed my hair and took a little walk at our recreation area. Almost getting back to a "normal" day. It wore me out in a good way and took a 2 hour nap. Today will be a similar day. I have good energy in the AM so I'll do some chores before PT then rest in the PM. JFT…

@packerFan I had fun binge watching Marie Kondo Tidying Up. It sure inspired me. Amazing how taking control of a few cupboards and drawers can give one a sense of control in life. @bookmeister86 Studying French (or for me Spanish) is like exercise for the brain. So satisfying. @HEGoddard0928 So much going on for you with…

@aletaforeman and @ZizzyBumble Retirement is a gift of more freedom and not feeling the time pressure associated with getting to work on time, finishing projects, etc. Congratulations on your new freedom. After the first couple of years of retirement, I put on about 15 pounds or so. I didn't believe my eating was so…

Warms my heart to see the support for others on this thread. I am 9 days pre-op and so is my husband. He was very mopey today and when I commented on his subdued energy he said he didn't have an explanation. He went off to get a good workout at the gym and I pray that will lift his spirits. He is a worrier and I think the…
