  • Though I get plenty of carbs and fat from my general diet (I don't worry too much about balancing the macros), I lean toward protein just so I'm not always hungry, and try to keep my calories in the zone.
  • 45lbs ago, just leaning on a door opened it. Now I have to actively push.
  • Awesome! Those first few pounds feel great! Recommendation: Keep your your big weight loss goal in mind, but break it up into smaller, easily achievable goals. 5 pound goals worked pretty well for me. Didn't matter how long it took to achieve, what mattered was that I did achieve.
  • Do what works for you; it looks like this has.
  • I like your enthusiasm! Good luck on your journey!
  • But is this encouragement, or just an inquiry? It might be good this person is asking, so they can get feedback (good or bad).
  • Isn't this basically a crash diet? I'm NO expert, but I'd think this to be a bad idea? As I understand, for the most-part, we need a minimum of 1000 calories daily (varies by person) just to maintain healthy function. Less than that and over time, you'll lose muscle, your metabolism will slow, your vital organs will lack…
  • What works well for ME: I just count calories, and don't worry about macros. Too much math. But ... I do try to eat healthier staple foods; vegetables, nuts, white meats, and tend to limit heavy carbs and fats. I'm easily maintaining, and feel healthy. I have a doctor well visit next month, and will see where I stand.
  • I'm 45. Chronic lower back problems due to an injury sustained when I was 29. I've had cervical (neck) disc replacement surgery 3 years ago. I cracked my right elbow on a wall corner while wrestling with my son 10 years ago, resulting in spurs, and have had to have interior infection lanced from same joint (almost went…
  • Take a ride in orbit around my planet. Play a last game of D&D with good friends.
  • Probably a not so popular opinion ... I don't practice chivalry; as I consider it outdated and sexist, and dates back to when men were the "bread winners". I just do nice things for people, regardless of their gender. Life is partnerships, not ownerships. That's not to say I won't pick up the tab if I enjoyed my time. But…
  • Thanks to all your comments, I feel better! And I have a couple of things to look up, e.g. glycogen and ectomorph. I've also been considering more exercise, but I have a back problem right now and am in PT for the next while. You guys are awesome!
  • Burn more calories than you eat to lose weight. My 20 minute *brisk* walk/jog burned most of my 320 breakfast calories. I get to "start over" my calorie allotment for the day.
  • My physician explained that prediabetic means it's probable that you can pull your A1C down, with good personal management. Once you are diabetic, you are in need of medical intervention to prevent further damage. About 3 years ago, my A1C was 5.9 (borderline prediabetic), and I was 230lbs. This scared me, and I lost 15+…
  • My son, his friend and I saw it last week. I agree, it wasn't particularly good, and I lost $40. It's a "wait until it comes out on [your service of choice]" movie.
  • I am concentrating solely on calories. It would be too much work to try to deal with "ooh, this food has this kind of nutrient, and that food has that kind of nutrient, so I should only be eating that kind of food." The only caveat to that is protein, which I will go to so I don't get hungry. But also, I naturally enjoy…
  • No matter how to realize your goals, if you don't keep a healthy eating/exercise lifestyle, you will eventually fail. I've seen people who have had surgery, some have been able to manage their weight post-surgery, some have not. It all rides on how personally determined they are, and what kind of support system they have.…
  • YOU CAN DO IT!! And congrats on the kid. Both mom and dad gain weight during pregnancy; weird. Assuming you're nursing, you still need to eat the right foods to provide nutrition for both of you. Keep up the work, and you'll eventually get to your goal. It's not a timed race. All you need to do is cross your personal…
  • Simple plan: If you want a cheat day, plan ahead for deficits on other days. I don't do cheat days. I just eat what I want, and try to stay within my calories. If I know I'll be eating more for dinner, I skimp a little on breakfast/lunch, and/or cut out snacks for the day. On those days, I might go really heavy on protein…
  • Not enough info for harsh judgement. Yes, I realize the owner should have contacted the city with explanation and see if an agreement could be made. Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances. Was this person previously in good standing? Had this person lost their job, and couldn't pay until they get a new job? Could…
  • I took a look at my protein intake, per @quiksylver296 and @middehaitch. It does look like I'm a bit deficient every day. On average, it looks like I'm getting about 80% of daily goal. So this is what I will try to tackle next. Yes, I am eating back my exercise calories, and typically get within 200c of my calorie goal…
  • I get what you mean. Sometimes it takes a second set of eyes to see. So I'll have to rethink this a little.
  • I'm conscious of my protein. Seems to me just about every meal I eat has a "healthy" portion of protein. And it's not until recently that hunger was even an issue. When I did get hungry, I'm usually sated by a spoon of peanut butter. I'd say 50% of my meal contents are some sort of meat, not including the veggie proteins.…
  • It's like my body decided it's time to par-tay.
  • We are a busy family with active kid's activities, so about 50% going out, 50% eating in. When we go out, lots of carbs and protein (e.g. Chick-Fil-a, Italian, Mexican, etc.) When we eat in, lower fat, more veggies, baked/grilled meat, less carbs. Even when we eat out, it's not been difficult to stay under 1840. About once…
  • I try to eat under, but not too far under, my goal calories, including exercise. I don't worry so much about being exact, as long as I'm near. Too much attention to detail would frustrate me. You can exercise to gain cardio or strength. You just need to eat your calories back to maintain your MFP goal.
  • That cheesecake is short term happiness. Your goal is long term happiness. Decide what's more important to you. Also, get a friend to intercede (hide the cake, slap your hand, distract you).
  • This. The KISS method. But if I know I've way overeaten one day, I may cut back a little the next day. Other than that, I don't worry about it, as long as I continue toward my goal.
  • When Snoop Dogg says modern hiphop/rap sucks, you know there's a problem in the industry. I'll stick with my classic rock, most of which is still older than me. ;)
  • Old happens when you let it. I'm 44. My body doesn't work as well as it did a few years ago; aches and pains have crept in; I have to be a little more careful; I don't recover from injury as quickly. But I don't feel old mentally or emotionally. I want to play and tell dirty jokes. I want to enjoy the outdoors with my…
