Ways to use Kimchi soup base (powder)?
I eat paido Kimchi King Bowl ramen periodically. The base is rather spicy, so I use half each time. I have a small collection of Kimchi soup base packets from this. The taste is quite appealing to me, so I want to know how I can use them in other recipes? Anyone put it on steak or pork?

Gastric bypass and habits
Someone I know has struggled with her weight for years. She's tried dieting, lost pounds here and there, then gained them back. She blames most of it on depression, which for her is a catch-22. She's a comfort eater, which is exacerbated by depression, and she's more depressed because she's overweight. She also complains…

Peanuts and "pieces"
I eat peanuts, prepared all their various ways. Raw, boiled, broiled, fried (in shell is pretty darn good), salted, sweet, spiced, plain ... They're the Bubba Gum Shrimp of nuts, I tell ya'. Haven't run into a peanut I didn't like. It runs in the family. I'm not much of a weigher of foods to determine portions. I guess…

Saw pics of myself that made me proud
I've been maintaining at 185 lbs for a while now. Feel physically good, more energetic. I participated in a ramp build for Habitat for Humanity this weekend, of which many pictures were taken by members of my group. Upon seeing them, I feel very good about my physique. How I appear to others isn't the top priority for my…

Woodworking as exercise?
As a hobby, I do classic woodworking, e.g. chisels, mallets, hand saws and hand planes ... no electric tools involved. It feels like a workout, as my muscles ache after a day in the garage. Most of the work is in use of the tools, not so much in heavy lifting. 1. What kind of workout/exercise would this be? 2. What level…

Thickness of slice of home-baked breads?
Wife and I like to bake different breads periodically. Looking at the nutrition info, they always say X cal per slice, but don't define the thickness of a slice. There doesn't seem to be a solid definition of a slice online, either. Anyone know?

A case for cardio?
Many years ago I hurt my back (bulged/tore my L4). Even after rehab I was told I shouldn't do anything impactful on my vertebra, e.g. running, jumping, etc. Instead I should concentrate on biking and swimming for my exercise. With periodic cheating, I've adhered to that instruction, and I think it was largely to my…

Starting Jiu Jitsu - Getting Nauseated
Having started Jiu Jitsu a couple weeks ago, I've only been able to go a couple days a week, so pretty new. Regularly about 3/4 way through the session, I'm getting nauseated. I realize this should improve as my cardio improves, but what can I do to help prevent it in the first place? I am well hydrated (I drink water…

What is "too thin?"
I am 45yr, 6'3", 185lbs, my maintenance weight. I brought myself down from 215lbs since last July (I once weighed 230). My genetic build is thin, carrying most of my weight in my belly, most of which has also disappeared, and I am not particularly muscular. I am proud of my accomplishment, both in the way I feel about my…

Swapping recipe ingredients for lower calorie/healthier options?
I've gotten into making breads, wheat/white, banana, apple, etc. I'm also about to start dabbling in cookies. A single slice of apple bread can be 250cal. I'm curious about replacing certain high-calorie ingredients with ones more in line with weight management, both for me and my family. What are some good replacements…

Slapped in the face by cravings
Since May/June, I've been doing well, losing my self-prescribed 1-2lbs/week. No real derailments or obstacles, no killer "need to eat". About 3 weeks ago, all this awesome success hit a wall. Seems like I suddenly crave everything sweet and fatty. I'm not eating the whole office cake, candy and snacks, but I have the…

What do you think about while you exercise?
I was reading the "questions about brisk walking" thread, and made a comment that I thought might be a good conversation starter, as well as help motivate people who have a hard time finding the activities they do fun ... to exercise. I walk daily, at least 10k steps, so I'm spending some time on my feet. When I get out,…

Losing weight near your goal?
I started MFP about 6 weeks ago, and I've lost 9 lbs. My SW 207, GW 190. I have MFP configured to lose 1lb/week. I'm sure I'm in the "safe" zone for how quickly I'm losing. What I'm curious about is why the trend seems to be that people who have a lot of weight to lose are allowed to lose 2lb, but when you get within about…

20lb backpack
I have a cheap backpack (the kind that's given away at computer fairs) that I put two 10lb dumbbells into. 2-3 times a week, I wear it on my walk around work (about a mile). It works great for me, because the pack is relatively small and allows my back to breathe ok. I can tell the pack is wearing out. The adjustment…

Bad food at camp
I spent last week with my son at a boy scout camp. Great time! The bad: Unfortunately, the food was not up to par with what I consider nutritious for my goals. Basically, 95% of it was high carb, high sugar (geared for the very active scouts). I am working to lower my A1C, so this was sort of a no-go. Meals were mystery…

Metformin medication to keep A1C in check
My (recent) medical history: My 2015 doctor well visit revealed that I was prediabetic with A1C at 5.9. I also had a number of other deficiencies, e.g. vitamin D. In my next well visit in 2016 my A1C had been reduced to 5.6 (normal). Yahoo! My next well visit (today) returned A1C 5.6 again. Still normal, but I feel I could…

How to (easily) determine nutrition for a restaurant item?
* Note: I tried to post this earlier today, but now I can't find the post. Hopefully this isn't a duplicate * I ate a Hopkins Eatery Black Bird sandwich today. I asked them about nutrition, and they don't keep one. I also didn't find anything on their website or elsewhere. I'm interested in knowing how to easily determine…

Adjusting my MFP Activity Level
When I initially set up my MFP account, I entered my activity level as "not very active", because I "sit" at a desk most of the day. I'm beginning to rethink that decision. On the norm, I easily beat my daily 10k steps count, and do light body weight exercises (planks 45s x 3, squats 20 x 3, push ups 15 x 3) every couple…

Really appreciating the opportunity!
I guess I'll give a little info ... I am 6'3", and was up to 230 about 3 years ago. I was diagnosed pre-diabetic at that point, which scared me a lot. (My grandmother was diabetic and I saw all the stuff that happened to her. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.) Diabetes is strong in my family. I began doing light exercise, with…

Health goals - Which is better, big or small?
During your weight loss progress, is it better to cut your goals into smaller steps, e.g. 5-10lbs, gradually working your way down, or just go whole hog for the big goal?
