I'm a lifetime member of WW and I prefer using MFP to the WW app. Just remember there are no zero point foods so you need to log everything.
-
Keep logging everyday and you will get there.

I grew up around the Jersey Shore. Been using MFP for a few years now. It totally works. Feel free to add me if you like.

WW points tries to steer you towards eating more protein and less saturated fats by decreasing or increasing the point cost for foods high in them. I just count calories and try and get enough protein (turn your phone sideways and it will show you how much protein you need to hit your target at the bottom of your diary).…

I'm a lifetime member of weight watchers and their new system isn't that bad, but calorie counting is going to be a lot better if you are going to log accurately and weigh your portions. I think they just assume people will not weigh their portions and eat more than they are supposed to so as others have said your calories…

Keep in mind the margin of error works both ways so it tends to even out. Prepackaged foods that say "about x number of servings" should always be weighed though as they are almost always under. If you aren't getting the results you think you should be, a digital food scale is almost always the answer.

I'm a lifetime member of weight watchers. I only use this app to log at this point though.
-
You absolutely can!
-
Yes it will absolutely help. It also has significant health benefits. As others have mentioned you still need to accurately log your food and stay at your calorie goals. Getting more calories to work with makes this easier.

If you are walking, running, or cycling you can use a phone app to track your calorie burn for exercise. These are pretty accurate in my experience. I find that if I enter the same data into MFP, MFP will give me about a 5% higher burn than apps will. At some point you will be at goal and you will need to have a handle on…

They assume you are eating some zero point foods, if you are logging on MFP you need to count them as well. The actual point "penalty" the smart point system assigns for saturated fat and sugar is actually rather minimal (as is the "bonus" you get for protein content). Most things that have a lot of points have a lot of…

I like this app better than the WW app (although I am a WW member). This app actually requires more consistent logging but will allow you to eat basically anything you want as long as it fits into your calorie budget. You can do it!

There is a recipe builder feature in MFP just like in the WW app. You will need to enter all the ingredients again separately though. There is no auto-conversion feature or anything like that.

I am a WW member (lifetime) but I prefer to track on this app. I think the primary value of WW is the meetings and weekly weigh-ins. Many people like the WW connect social app which is far more positive and active than the forums here (although you will hear a ton of nonsense diet theories there). TBH the freestyle system…

I just stayed in a slight deficit so I could eat out with family once a week and not go over.

Digital Food Scale.
-
I don't look at the pie chart. As long as I meet my protein and fat minimums for the day (in grams) on the main screen I'm happy. (Turn your phone sideways on mobile to see them).
-
Yes. I'd turn off background data when on 4G in the settings if you use Android. I turned wifi off on my phone and it chewed up about 6 gigs.

I looked at your diary and I think you need to get a digital food scale, and try and find more accurate entries for your food items. Look for ones in grams. You can google the item and add "calories" to the search to get an idea if you see widely different entries. "Eyeballing" servings of peanut butter can only lead to…

Ok, this is I think a settings issue. Try this:* Go to Settings > Data Permissions > MFP inside the Samsung App * Under "Allowed to Write" make sure "Exercise" is turned OFF (this is critical) * Under "Allowed to Read" make sure "Daily step Count Trend" is set to ON. (I have the rest turned off) * Walk around a bit and…

Are you using the S3 with Samsung Health? I just use it with my phone as the step tracker, set MFP to sedentary and eat back my exercise calories and I find I lose at the predicted rate. Edit- I am in maintenance now but I have used this strategy to lose and maintain.
-
Yes. MFP doesn't give you weekly points (and exercise calories are added to the day you burn them) but you can certainly save calories on some days and then use them on others. As long as you maintain your overall desired deficit over the course of the week you will be fine.

I'm male, 6'2" 180 lbs (down from 220). I don't have a gut but I don't have visible abs, nor am I super muscular. I thought I wanted to get down to about 195 but then decided to drop another 5 pounds, then another 5, then another 5, then I was happy with my weight. My point here is you won't know what you will look like…

I'm a WW member (lifetime) but I prefer to use this app to track rather than the WW one.* The most important thing to keep in mind when using MFP is there are no "zero point foods" you need to count ALL calories. Using a digital scale to weigh your food will make this 100x easier. * The WW point system tries to steer you…

I'd guess active as well. If you have your phone in your pocket at work you can install a step tracking app and know for sure.

When I first I first read the title of this thread it reminded me of the beginning of Snow White, then I looked it up and it reminded me of the beginning of 1984. I'll pass.

Most restaurant entrees are somewhere around 1200-2000 calories. Then you have appetizers, desert, drinks, salad dressing etc. If you want to go out and eat whatever you want at a restaurant once a week you will probably need to cut out about an additional 250 calories a day from the other days of the week (giving you 1500…

I use Samsung Health to record step calories with just my phone. Works fine.

Get a digital food scale and weigh everything. You are probably eating more calories than you think you are. Yes cardio will help burn calories. Intermittent fasting has no weight loss benefits (its all calories in vs. calories burned) but many find it an effective eating strategy to help stay in a calorie deficit.

I'm a WW member (lifetime) but prefer this app over the WW app. I like the accountability of the meetings and weigh ins. Using either app a digital food scale is pretty important so you know how much you are actually eating, I'm terrible at estimating.
