  • MD - Hogan put this into effect this morning, 11 am - all non essential businesses to close.
  • Interesting timing for this discussion - I'm currently in the process of getting my medical marijuana card!

  • Glad you're on the mend. My husband had sepsis - that's some scary stuff.
  • ^Oy - that is VERY depressing! Average weight gain is 15 lbs?! It is a struggle maintaining now that I'm menopausal. I have to be very conscious of what I eat. I still work out 6 days a week.
  • Madwife - tell your daughter she needs to chill. My husband and I have one daughter - she's away at college as well. Two months ago we sold our 4 bedroom/3 bath house and moved into a tiny 2 bedroom apartment. During that time, my husband fell from a ladder and broke his pelvis - sleeping has been an issue for him, so he…
  • I used to have this problem - I workout daily, I run, bike, and lift - and I used to get stellar calf cramps in the middle of the night. My doctor suggested I take a potassium supplement - no more calf cramps.
  • For me, 'consistency' means planning. Plan your food for the week, and stick to it. Plan your workouts for the week, and stick to it. Do it enough times, it will become a habit.
  • I'd try a mild fish like cod. Do something basic, like bake it. Make some side dishes you know he likes - and offer up some condiments if that makes your Hubby feel 'safe' - like cocktail sauce - something to dip the fish into.
  • I AM a morning person - but I have a horrible commute, and leave my house by 6am - so I workout when I get home. First thing I do when I get home is change into my workout gear - that way there's no backing out.
  • You need an arsenal of things for this. 1) Fans - if you have a ceiling fan, crank it. Also standing fans work well too. 2) put a water bottle of ice water on your bedside table. 3) try using a light weight cotton blanket - they are wonderful for this. 4) don't wear any type of heavyweight PJ's - I just wear cotton undies.…
  • wow - flaminica, consider yourself one lucky woman!! Sorry about your Mom. I have symptoms, but not bad enough that I want to take HRT....I deal with the hot flashes.
  • Hey there, Kossychick - I have arthritis in my feet. It's definitely a bummer, especially since I used to run - a LOT. Now I only run maybe once a week. all of the suggestions above are good - I have a recumbent seat bike I use a lot now, as it's a lot easier on my feet. I also use a prescription cream called Voltaren - I…
  • It's a major stress reliever for me. I have a horrible commute to and from work. On a 'good' day, it's an hour there, and an hour home. On a 'bad' day, you can double that....sometimes triple that. The first thing I do when I get home is change, and workout. Really helps relieve the stress - AND - I'm in better shape now at…
  • We keep a Name List at work - I'm in the marketing/advertising business, and we get a TON of calls and emails - so we started this list about twelve years ago. Here are my favorite first names so far: Margerine, LaTrine, and Female. Female might be my all-time favorite - woman said her mother didn't know what to name her,…
  • I workout daily, and watch what I eat. I haven't gained weight since menopause -it's more that my weight has 'shifted' - to my mid-section. I'm short - 5'2" - and have a very petite build. If I don't watch what I eat and exercise regularly, I start to get a build-up of fat around my mid-section now that I'm past menopause…
  • I read - a LOT (I am the 'Norm' at my local library); I workout to reduce my stressful daily commute, and I watch Netflix, and I plan a lot of lunch dates with my Sister and my Daughter.
  • Cause she wasn’t a blind melon fan - and that’s just a sign of crazy Saw Blind Melon live at Jones Beach back in the early '90's - they opened for Neil Young - the other opening act was Soundgarden - crazy-good show!!
  • I like to look nice, and I like to feel good. If I can do that by watching what I eat and working out, I don't think that's too high of a price to pay. I also have a stressful commute - and working out when I get home helps.
  • I used to run @ 4:30 am - headlamp was a 'must'. I also wore a reflective vest, and wore strobe/flashing wrist bands. Really important that drivers see you.
  • This is a tough one. I 'get' that it's not fair to ask the other people you live to NOT bring this stuff into the house. What you could do is ask that they put their 'goodies' somewhere where you don't have to see them constantly - away in the pantry, in a cupboard, whatever. I have a 'sweet-tooth' as well, but with me, if…
  • I'm 53 - three years since I've had a period. Cons of menopause: I've REALLY had to watch what I eat. I've always had to - I'm very petite and small-boned - but since menopause 'hit' - like rhtexasgal mentioned -any body fat I had has 'shifted' to my mid-section....and it's NOT a good look! I workout 6 days a week, do…
  • I put it up in a ponytail. I think about getting my hair cut short - but I like the ease of long hair....plus I tend to get lazy with my hair, and I only get it cut maybe twice a year.
  • I second the 'vote' for TJ Maxx - and for JCPenney (they have Champion brand stuff that's pretty good).
  • Sorry, can't help you with this - I try to take as little as possible when it comes to supplements - I just try to eat right and exercise every day. I don't take HRT's. I don't eat meat, but I do eat a lot of beans, tofu, and dairy. I drink a LOT of water, and eat a lot of fruits and veggies.
  • I have an elliptical. I use my elliptical. I don't love my elliptical. I agree, the movement seems to be unnatural. It's like playing 'whack-a-mole' with your feet. I've worked up to doing 30 minutes on the elliptical. I can run a 5k, I can jump rope for 10 minutes without stopping. Some days I'd like to light my…
  • I'm 2 years younger than my Sister, but I went through menopause before she did. I'm wondering if that is because we actually started at about the same time - she began when she was 12 and I started when I was 10 years old.
  • Lydia, I'm so sorry! I hope when you get 'there', your chronic migraines go away. Mine did, and I can't tell you what a relief it's been!
  • I'm vertically challenged - I just ask my Hubby to put any snacks on the top shelf of the pantry. I can't reach anything up there, I can't even SEE anything up there. Most of the time, it's 'out of sight, out of mind'. On the off-chance I either decide to scale the shelf, or drag over my step stool, I figure I've burned…
  • Welcome to 'the club'! I'm 3 years into menopause. Not gonna lie, the hot flashes were &!*#$ - but I'm loving my curse-free life! No constantly checking my purse to make sure I'm 'packing', no more PMS every month, no more migraines! Yep, things have 'shifted' a bit on my body, but in the realm of things, it's all good!
  • tcunbeliever, wow..........! Sorry your Mom isn't being very sympathetic. But that's what we're here for!
