I just cannot agree with that bold hard enough, and privilege isn't the only term that's been abused badly. In keeping with the topic though, I'll stick with mbaker566's assertion that it's largely a matter of perspective, until it isn't. What I mean by that is that things like white privilege are real. I just don't think…

I have another word for that :p Overall I agree with this, but these days some people also project their views on "being privileged" onto some people who do not make those assumptions. I don't like that old "both sides do it" argument, but there's a grain of truth to that here. * I completely agree. Granted, we all filter…

I've had the unenviable experience of chatting with people who would push back heavily against that notion. I personally agree with it.

Choice is a wonderful thing :)

:D I keep finding myself coming back for more lol. I don't reply often, but do acknowledge I might have a problem :p

^^^This. Communication can be difficult as it is. When terms commonly used by several different people are defined by those people in several different ways communication can stagnate and a war of words breaks out. In my tiny corner of the world experience in the form of walking in the others shoes will always carry more…

@COGypsy no apologies necessary, but thank you. Awareness is always a good thing. My girls think I'm over protective, because of course they do :D but I know and have seen some truly oblivious people, and unfortunately have seen the lengths some men, and even some women, will go to in order to "satisfy" themselves. In the…

Regarding the bold, it's important to note also that most organizations that track such stats believe incidents to be under reported. Well said to the entire post by the way.

*looks again in mirror* Nope, not a woman :D It's that fact of life I intensely dislike. As @quiksylver296 :) pointed out, not disagreeing with you at all. I do happen to be a rather over protective father of 3 girls though, and while I'm blessed to be very close to my girls, that fact also means I'm hyper aware of…

Half of all internet debates would shut down were it not for that tiny bit of misplaced context :D Strawmen are fairly easy to deal with though. But a strawman handing out red herring is a bit tougher lol.

I actually read everything to see why it's taking off the way it did and all I can think is "minefield". One wrong comment and BOOM! :D All I wanted to say after reading all the comments is that sometimes it's very easy to attribute views/thoughts/motives etc, in person, much less over the web. That said, There's very…

@lkpducky - it's good in a soup, but honestly, I wouldn't mind if it all just disappeared :)

While I completely agree, commercially driven woo is a quick watch potentially leading to sweet and tasty instant gratification. Edumacation isn't. Just saying education has the steeper hill to climb.

People who don't practice restraint are going to not practice restraint regardless. Ads are never ending and dishonest and people can be inclined to do what they please regardless of what they know. Besides, while I dislike the ads, I do enjoy breakfast cereals and fast food. Ads or not, I'm going to partake. :)

That's true of course, yet with that said I believe it's safer to take some people at their word. You've always been, as long as I've been reading here at least, very consistent. That lends credibility as far as I'm concerned. :)

I like that, quite a bit. I agree about striving for ideals as long as those ideals are for the betterment of both sides. If only it were as easy as this chat eh? :D

Thanks for the video - I'll check that out tonight. Regarding the bold, I absolutely agree that some do exactly that, but to my point about getting to actually know the person you're debating, that's not what I do. I will admit, in the interest of full transparency and disclosure, that I have practiced that tactic. Years…

Of course what you believe is important. As is the why of it. Where the debates and conversations come in is either refining and sharpening your own understanding of your beliefs, or (if completely honest with yourself/myself) getting rid of those beliefs. One of my favorite bible verses is "Iron sharpens iron". It's a…

Most of us do I think :) It's very difficult online, and in real life at times, to separate people who are passionate about their beliefs, and people who have passion without any type of discernment. Ad hom attackers and such. One of my best online experiences was a running, almost year long debate about various topics and…

I had a discussion on a certain political forum once about just that and..I'm still at a loss for words how to describe it lol. That said, there's a distinct difference between people who complain, and then DO, and people who simply complain. You are very clearly a doer, others are content (for lack of a better word atm)…

Wow, just wow...first, thank you for your service. I'm a disabled veteran myself, so I understand what you're dealing with insurance/restriction wise, but I never had to deal with potential cancer at the time either. The only thing I would recommend is to listen to your body regarding the workouts. An illness can be a…

I am not a doctor. That said, are you able to get a second opinion regarding the amount, and the causes behind needing that amount? Long story kept short - my dad's doctor had him on many prescriptions, something like 25 or so weekly. Continuing issues led to him being hospitalized at a facility known for it's excellent…

Off topic but...I've never heard that from anyone before lol. On topic - I've found that if I get 2.5-4 hours of resistance training a week, and eat a proper amount of calories I maintain my muscle mass (not a huge amount lol) and stay lean. Nothing complicated required. In light of that, I constantly get numerous comments…

Corden's response was perfect, but it won't make a dent in Maher's idiocy. For what it's worth Maher has been shooting off at the mouth about and at obese folks for years. Anyone remember his shots at Christie? Something to the effect of "Gov Fat Fatty". Poking at Maher's insensitivity is like complaining about a certain…

I'm not certain of the timeline between this photo and his challenge vs the ex Navy SEAL, but the ex SEAL was as fit as you would expect and Shaw won the challenge. To be perfectly honest I'm not certain exactly what would constitute "fit" as it seems to be a moving target among various disciplines - remember the NFL…

Can I have it? o:) Seriously, good job. Saying no to something I really want is harder than it seems.

My great grandmother used to pickle pigs feet with various spices tossed in, and I remember I couldn't get enough of them. I've never been able to find anything close since (long time ago) and have given up. Ham - take it or leave. The rest though, yes please.

Krispy Kreme has gone downhill. I used to be able to eat them until I collapsed. Now I can actually stop at four. Quality control these days yaknow? :(

I'm a recovering alcoholic, over 32 years without a single drop. In light of your statement, I wonder how long I could go without food before being hospitalized? The only commonality between addiction to substances and addiction to overeating is that there are underlying issues that need to be addressed.

Brian Shaw's BMI was 45.4 when his weight was at 412lbs. He isn't representative of that weight range among the general populace, but he and his competitors also clearly show that "fit" is something that can certainly be achieved in the absence of underlying medical issues.
