What kind of food prep are you interested in doing? Do you want to cook meals in advance and figure out how to record them accurately? Do you just want to stock up on healthy-ish grab-and-go choices? There are so many different ways to answer. At 19, are you in a dorm situation or still at home with someone else cooking,…

I was diagnosed as diabetic in 2019, and have been able to keep it under control pretty well. I think the keys are eating balanced meals, getting enough sleep, and at least some light exercise consistently. By balanced, I means meals should have protein, a little fat, and at least some non-starchy vegetables (tomatoes,…

You could make a poke bowl with canned tuna instead of raw. Adjust the rice serving to meet your carb goal, or something. It's not authentic but it would be easy.

When I first started I was looking for an easier way to keep a food journal than a written record. It was part of a post-surgery rehab assignment -- to help me make healthier choices, I suppose.

Welcome! Getting started can be time-consuming but it's worth it. As you build your list of recent/frequent items, it will get easier and easier.

It's hard to go wrong with chicken fajitas or chicken chili. But the easiest thing is to put two to three pounds of frozen chicken in your slow cooker, add 1-2 cups of your choice of salsa, barbecue sauce, Korean barbecue sauce, or, cream-of-anything soup + 1 package of dry onion soup mix (I don't claim this is healthy).…

Fill half your plate with salad or non-starchy vegetables. Take one tablespoon servings of whatever appeals. Go for non-sauced proteins, if possible. Drink water. If it won't injure your health, suspend all expectations of low sodium. If it will... alas, do the best you can. My Fitness Pal has a couple of ball park…

That's a little terrifying. I see a collapsible silicon microwave popcorn popper on Amazon that might travel well -- a safer alternative. I might get one, myself, as the air popper is so loud!

A half ounce of 85% dark chocolate is low in sugar and carbs, VERY chocolatey, and bitter enough that I don't crave more. I also like it melted in oatmeal.

Trail mix in individual packages. For low-calorie volume, baggies of sliced cucumbers or carrots. If I eat a whole medium carrot I'm satisfied for awhile. (I wash but don't peel them). Air-popped popcorn or bags of Skinny Pop. You can't go crazy but two cups is about a hundred calories. Jars of peanuts or other nuts to…

I probably ought to wait for someone more knowledgeable, but my supervillain power is answering questions that someone else should answer. So I see at least one set of aqua dumbbells in Amazon that comes apart, and the middle bar is just a piece of pvc tubing. So if you can't find what you really want, maybe you could buy…

I apologize! I posted without looking, and you are correct. I also lament the loss.

Same for me, but at the bottom of my diary I can click on "Nutrition" and see the macro breakdown in detail, that is, more detail than just the diary shows.

When I become aware that I am eating out of boredom, I try to make myself eat a whole carrot. They are very low calorie, take awhile to eat, and by the end of it I'm really tired of chewing.

If I'm just fixing something for myself I put half a package (6 ounces) of frozen vegetables in the microwave for three minutes. I like any of the mixes with broccoli, or the stir-fry mixes, or the soup mixes. If I have a little meat or broth to add in I'm quite happy. I season with a hefty dose of pepper or a spice blend…

If you have space for frozen berries you can mix them in your smoothies instead of ice. I'd start with four ounces of plain yogurt and 3-4 ounces of fruit per serving, then add milk or juice to thin to the right consistency, if needed. You can also freeze peeled ripe bananas for smoothies, which provides almost an ice…

I was telling a new co-worker that I am a gym rat. I do something cardio-ish for thirty minutes five days a week, and two of those days are in the gym, where I add some strength training. Progress is slow but consistency is pretty good. Then I thought about it, and revised. I am a gym mouse. But I'm good with that.

Your body may indeed be readjusting. It's quite normal (and encouraging!) for the first two weeks to have dramatic results as you improve your nutrition and increase exercise, then level off. I understand some of this first loss is often mostly water. That's okay. This is a journey, not a sprint, and a gradual loss is…

Just a note: most lean meat is only about 25% protein at best. So four ounces of meat is only (really rounding, here) 1 ounce or 28 grams of protein. Fortunately lots of good things have protein. Greek yogurt is a good source, for example. Even the cheap store-brand regular yogurt has some. Just watch the sugar.

Search the food database for an entry that counts the nuts as opposed to entering a weight or volume. For example: Change the serving size to one {piece, kernel, almond, nut} and the number of servings to three. Close enough.

I often substitute evaporated milk for heavy cream. I like the richness and it's shelf-stable. I think it would work fine for cream-of soups. If you can tolerate it, go for it. I use it for ganache, too, for the record.

There's a good chance tiny amounts of fingernail may have been grated into past cheese. Oops. Then it became a tradition that the end bits got divided up between the dogs and I. They are not so fond of the Salad Shooter as there are no more unshreddable tidbits now. Although they do still hang out underfoot, convinced that…

I can't figure it out on my desktop computer as I only see an option there to edit a particular food. But in my phone app (Android), under the 'Me' menu option, then 'My Items,' when I select 'Foods' I see the three dots at the top of the page that lets me edit. Then I get check boxes by each entry and a trash can at the…

I love cheese too, almost any kind so far. But I've been watching sodium, so Swiss, which has pretty low sodium content, has been my treat for the last couple of years. But I'm over it. I don't have hypertension and I'm healthy. I'm going to eat the cheese (in very small portions). But when I do eat cheese, I try to eat it…

Fruity balsamic vinegar, straight from the bottle, to taste. I prefer strawberry, blueberry or chocolate balsamic, usually about 30gr. 6-10 gr grape nuts sprinkled on top I had to laugh at 6-10 grape nuts, as a grape nut is about as big as a grape seed. But I also totally understand. I am the same way about granola, which…

This is why if I indulge in fries I eat them first and as fast as I can. (With pepper only.)

Having to buy clothes too often during successful weight loss is a thing. Second-hand shops are a lifesaver, plus older-style women's pants have better pockets. I'm also in the buy-boys' group because guy clothes are made better and have better pockets. If I don't mention that I wear guys' clothing nobody knows. They're…

Since you asked.... I don't track seasonings unless they have sodium. I don't track if I lick the serving spoon or scrape out a serving bowl before putting it in the dishwasher. That last handful of goldfish before bed? Nope. Diet sodas from a can-- yes. Diet sodas from the special two-liter bottle that's just for me to…

Golden Home Ultra Thin pizza crusts are decent, and currently Dollar Trees near me have either a single 12" crust or three 6" crusts for a dollar. My carb goal is 45-60 per meal, so I can have half a large or a whole small crust. I top it with either homemade tomato sauce or leftover spaghetti sauce with meat. For me, I…
