Kind of what I was thinking - almost everything in a grocery store has a barcode. Spices, pasta, rice, bags of beans, etc. Even the bags of grapes have a barcode on the bottom to make is easier for the cashier to weigh the proper item.

Keep in mind that partially hydrogenated fats that contain trans fat have not been allowed in food in the US since June, 2018. Fully hydrogenated fats are allowed but they do not contain trans fat. They are very solid and may appear on a label as "interesterified oils".

The question I have is where did you come up with the 2000 calorie number? If I let MFP determine my daily calories (without exercise) to lose .5 lbs /week, it gives me around 1500 calories/day . And I am quite a bit taller than 5 feet. So it sounds as though that number is already assuming some calories from exercise. I…

Vitamin C is one of the vitamins that is easily destroyed by heat. So if you are boiling it, there's probably not much left in the end.

I am assuming that this is a side dish that has dried veggies, seasonings, etc included as part of the mix so it is not just pure raw rice. Is the label for "As Packaged" or "As Prepared"? Preparation will often include adding butter, milk, etc which will increase the total calories.

Lots of inaccurate entries for sure. But I personally would not depend on a supermarket's information as I have seen many inaccurate listings. Just last week, I was looking for nutrition information for hot cross buns (sweet bread-like rolls with candied fruit and icing). The ones I found were approximately 3 ounces and…

All I do for meal prepping to to make extra servings when I prepare a meal. Then I freeze the extra. Over time, I get a variety of meals I can just pull out of the freezer.

Absolutely this - Measuring spoons, cups, etc available for household use are VERY approximate. You would think that a teaspoon is a teaspoon but they can vary a lot. Keep this in mind when all you have is a volume measurement for a particular food product and you don't have any information on what that volume is supposed…

I put in that exact description and nothing came up that showed 4.2g carbs. Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing?
-
Can you post the exact description of the entry you are using? There are probably 100+ listings for strawberries and it would be helpful to use the same one to recreate the error.

It's still a lot of sodium but that 1/2 cup is before you add the water. So prepared, the amount listed would be for 1 cup.

I think what springlering62 had suggested was whey which is very different from whey protein. Protein level is a lot lower and sugars are higher. You might have more success with sweet whey powder.

I also have an inexpensive Renpho scale (<$20) as well and have it on top of a ceramic 12"x12" tile I got at a hardware store. Works great.

My main goal is to take off at least a few pounds before my oldest son's wedding in May. My knees will thank me!

Liquid whey will have a lot of lactose in it so probably not something to use if she is trying to limit sugars.

I looked at those recently but decided I would rather eat real food. The typical ones I found had only 0.5g (or less) dietary fiber per capsule. In comparison, the large pear I ate for lunch had more than 5g dietary fiber (10 capsules worth). Not necessarily keto, but better than chugging several capsules.

Food companies can't just make up a serving size in the US. FDA specifies what a serving size is for different product categories. So unless you have a very small single serving container that is less than the official serving size, you can't just label a product with a smaller serving size. The US label above does not…

Only saturated fat is required on the labels in the US so the other ones are only on there if a manufacturer wants to or makes a fat claim for the product. So mono and poly fats are missing on most labels even when they are present.

I beg to differ on this. Although a lot of people naturally have a "fast" longer than 12 hours, many people struggle with this. Think of all the posts about how to avoid evening eating and where a snack at 9PM turns into a full fledged meal. Then breakfast again at 6AM. For those people, 12:12, would be a great start to…

This is not a product for me but I have to add my 2 cents in here. When you take the typical breakfast cereal that has things like sugar, corn, and oats as the main ingredients, it is really not surprising that the cost of this product is a lot higher than "regular" cereal. Milk protein, allulose, monk fruit, stevia, etc…

And the current number used by FDA - 1300mg = 100% DV.

For anyone trying to avoid erythritol - it occurs naturally in some fruits and fermented foods.
-
Yes - it contains stevia so probably not the choice you are looking for.

How many calories in a slice of Kraft Singles depends on the package size. Slices in a 12 oz package are 3/4oz (60 cal) and slices in a 16 oz package are 2/3oz (50 cal)

I rip it off as completely as I can as it gets messy if it remains. However, some lids are fitted so that they are snug when the film is on but then are loose when the film is removed and it's hard to know which ones are like that until it's too late. It is also REALLY annoying when a film has a pull tab but then the film…

I never liked lima beans as a child as my mother always used to cook them to death and they were always dry and unappetizing. Once I had fresh (properly cooked) lima beans I realized that I really like them.

At least in the US, we can now claim that some chocolate is now health food - https://fda.gov/food/cfsan-constituent-updates/fda-announces-qualified-health-claim-cocoa-flavanols-high-flavanol-cocoa-powder-and-reduced-risk
