  • It takes time before you readjust to the idea of not having the texture of starches in your dishes, but you'll simply get used to it. It took me a few weeks before I accepted not having bread with my meals. One day, I decided to go cold turkey and I haven't gone back since then. Our ancestors simply ate the meat they…
  • I know there are vegetarian/vegans on keto out there who manage to combine low carb with low saturated fat. I personally don't care about cholesterol and I stick to a classic eggs/cheese/meat + some veggies (broccoli, spinach, cauliflowers) for my fibre content. My cholesterol (both good and bad) raised dramatically during…
  • It's not just about calories. For those of us who care about insulin release, artificial sweeteners, especially sucralose, can trigger an immediate insulin release. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4059820/ https://news.illinois.edu/view/6367/805816 I would say this is not a problem if you take coffee with…
  • I use pure Erythritol (not the one mixed with other sweeteners). I has no digestible carbs and has no insulin response.
  • Hi, I've been doing keto for almost 3 years now. It's worth pointing out that keto is not about losing weight. It's about getting the benefits of 1) being in ketosis (short term) and 2) becoming fat-adapted (long term). You can lose weight by keto or any other diet. With keto, you have additional benefits, see…
  • @Tanie98, counting calories is something only a tiny minority of people do, therefore it stands out and it might attract criticism, because most people want to follow the beaten track and do what the herd do. Counting carbs is more niche and fasting is even more niche. Spare a moment of pity for those like me who count…
  • Humans have always eaten some sort of carb-rich foods, just because they were freely available to forage, but our ancestors ate predominantly hunted animals and over-ground vegetables and fruits until agriculture took over hunter-gatherer societies.…
  • I agree with you, to a point. Keto is not just a diet; it's a lifestyle. If they thought it would be a quick hack to lose weight fast and then go back and eat all the pies, then they would be wrong. There are many ways of doing low-carb and some of these are plain wrong. Atkins is one of these. There are also other…
  • They must be doing something wrong, because I have been on keto for 2.5 years and haven't regained any weight.
  • Yes and yes.
  • Is this the one you're looking for: https://www.jacc.org/doi/pdf/10.1016/j.jacc.2020.08.075
  • It depends on what your goals are. If you're fasting for autophagy, it will probably stop the autophagy process, at least temporarily. If you're fasting for weight loss, the calorie content will most likely be negligible.
  • I totally agree with this point and I know I'm in the minority here. However, I find there's no point in restricting carbs unless you restrict them to <50 g/day. You're either in ketosis or not. Cycling between being in and out of ketosis is exhausting. My cholesterol jumped when I started keto (2.5 years ago) and now it's…
  • We in UK are lucky that our labels already report net carbs. I wonder if this is going to change with Brexit.
  • The only way around is to create a duplicate with the new portion or the new size.
  • What are your stats? What is your TDEE? Are you sedentary? Do you have to lose weight? Fat? What is your body fat percentage? Unless you're morbidly obese, 500 cal deficit is too high. The slower, the better.

  • I reached my target weight long time ago, but I still maintain a mild calorie deficit (100 cals) just to enjoy the overall benefits of calorie restriction. I will probably start eating at a surplus if I get to 18/18.5 BMI.
  • In my previous life as a carb eater, I did really like hard cookies. Some people also make keto cookies but I've never tried.
  • How is that possible? I have been on low carb for 2.5 years and I have never found it difficult to get enough calories. What is your diet like? Can you share your daily report?
  • Hang on in there! You can do it. Make sure you supplement with Magnesium Citrate. Result will come. Don't listen to the Keto-haters. They're just envious.
  • I get an invitation for a health check every 5 years from the NHS and then my GP will do the tests and send them to the nearest hospital. It's worth checking with your GP. To be honest, I don't pay much importance to those tests.
  • I don't know how you can extrapolate that from what I've said.
  • I lost 25 kgs in 3 years and several cm of belly fat. What worked for me: 1) Keeping carbs below 30 g a day. 2) Eating once a day. 3) Sporadic longer fasts (4-5 days every 2-3 months) 4) Mild calorie deficit (usually 100-150 calories)
  • Yet, despite not being overweight, they are at higher risk of becoming diabetic because they" are more likely to have less muscle and more abdominal fat, which increases insulin resistance". https://asiandiabetesprevention.org/what-is-diabetes/why-are-asians-higher-risk
  • Not if you have pre-diabetes and/or insulin resistance, which is quite common in obese people. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/diet/how-low-carb-diets-work.html
