  • PP have covered the nutrition topic well, but for some reassurance, I was 280something when my first was conceived (299 just before he was born!), and we had an uneventful home birth. My BP was always a little highish towards the end, but it would go down if I lay down, and I didn't have awful swelling, which was what my…
  • I'm 5'11". I think it's easier to find petite sized clothes than tall (IME), and while I used to say I wanted smaller breasts when mine were big (DDD in a stretchy bra), now I miss them. I seem to have lost a lot of boob weight :P Having three kids is part of it, but I always thought they'd stay big; not so much.
  • You understand that it was the photographer who posed them that way, right? Nobody actually breastfeeds that way.
  • Babies root from the time they're born -- they're telling you they're hungry. "If they can ask for it, they're too old" is bull****. Also, I see a lot more skin in posts here -- or walking around *anywhere* in the summer -- than I ever see on a breastfeeding woman. This "whip it out" stereotype is crap -- very, very few…
  • I told myself I wouldn't post, but I can't help myself :P You can't force a kid to nurse, especially an older kid. If they don't want to, *they won't do it*. You're talking about putting a kid with teeth on a breast and trying to make them nurse? That's a recipe for getting bitten. Kids that age don't get guilt, either, so…
  • I adore the fruit-flavored Chobanis, but they are so high in sugar :( They were a breakfast staple for me until I looked at the numbers :( I can't abide plain yogurt, so I haven't had them in months. Alas!
  • I've been entering my exercise on the FItBit site, and then it's all reported together on MFP when FitBit does the transfer. If you go to the "log activity" spot on FitBit, there's a place where you can enter/search for different activities; the list is pretty comprehensive (in that it includes sewing, which MFP doesn't…
  • I just bought myself some new jeans a couple of weeks ago because my 20/22s were too baggy... ended up with 16s! Felt great :) I still have 40 lbs to go, and I am *so* looking forward to shopping my new size, whatever it ends up being. I realized this afternoon that I could probably start shopping in the regular size…
  • Your colon is meant to be self-cleansing. Unless you have a serious medical issue, your food does not collect inside the intestine. And if it did, that would quickly lead to necrosis and death. Not only that, but the lining of the intestine is replaced every few days (IIRC). A colonic is nothing but a way for its…
  • Well, I went shopping today (Dress Barn Woman -- totally on a whim). Tried some 20s -- they fit the same as the ones I wear now: need a belt to stay up, and can pull them on without undoing fasteners. Then I tried some 18s -- they didn't need a belt, but I could still pull them up no problem. Then I tried some 16s, and the…
  • This makes absolutely NO sense to me :P I'm 5'11", 213 currently, still wearing a size 20 jean -- and so many of you are at my weight two months ago and wearing a 14/16! How does this work?! Am I shopping at the wrong stores? My 20 that I'm wearing right now is LLBean (total mom jeans -- next time I'll get low rise because…
  • I'm down 53 lbs and only just into the second clothing size down -- started with 24 being pretty snug, and now I'm in a 20. Would love to hit 16 so that I can shop in a normal store :P If it's taken me 50 lbs to lose two sizes, though, I'm guessing I'll be between 16-18 at goal weight :P
  • I was originally aiming for an even 200 -- thought I'd be too skinny lower than that -- but I'm only 13 lbs away from that now, and still have a lot to lose. I'm thinking 167, just because it's an even 100lbs from my start weight, but I'll probably re-evaluate at 175 or so. I have a large frame, too, so if I'm looking too…
  • All I can tell you is that Lane Bryant is crap if you're tall :P Nothing I've bought there in the last 8 years has been long enough on my torso. On the other hand, their "tall" jeans seem to assume much longer legs than I have, or they're meant to be worn with heels (which I never ever wear; 5'11" is tall enough for me). I…
  • I'm down 53 lbs, and last week I told someone (I think she was 5'6") that I weighed 217. Her eyes got wide and she said "NO WAY! There's NO WAY you weigh that much!!" I was actually rather nonplussed -- that was really light for me (given that I started at 267). This thread is an eye-opener :D I never really thought about…
  • Yep :) Not a native, but I've lived here since I was 14 (1987).
  • Oh, I know that all three pounds were not fat -- it was mostly water, I know. I'm just having a hard time reconciling spike meal = good (for me) when it takes me a week to get back to my pre-spike-meal weight :/
  • I'm not finding this to be true for me :( My spike meal is usually at The Peach Farm in Boston's Chinatown -- we're down there every couple of weeks. But take last week as an example. I was 220 that morning, which I recorded. Went to Boston, walked around a lot, took pictures of the Lunar New Year celebrations, and had our…

  • Do a Google image search for "david tennant casanova" and oh, revel in the results :D Yeah, although it took me two watchings (of the series) to "get" why he fell for Rose, and Donna took two tries for me to appreciate her. I really liked Martha, though. And the one towards the end of the series where she gives him that…
  • Me me me! I knit my husband the 4th Doctor's scarf a few years ago -- he wears it every day in the winter. Baker was his first Doctor :) Of the current crop, he prefers Smith because his style is similar to Baker's. I, on the other hand, will forever be a 10 girl. Swoon! If you haven't seen him in the BBC "Casanova" yet...…
  • I use almond milk in mine -- many of the unsweetened varieties are 40 calories per 8 oz, and I use about 1.5 oz in a 16 oz cup. Low carb, low cal, low sugar, and it's very tasty. I've also been using the sugar-free Torani syrups lately; a little goes a long way, and it's nearly calorie-free.
  • I used to grab a candy bar as a "treat" -- almost every time I went grocery shopping. Now all I can think is, "I'd have to walk for 45 minutes at my usual pace to neutralize this!" and that's enough to make me put it back  And candy is now a very rare *actual* treat, and I get really, really good chocolate to maximize…
  • I'm 5'11" and currently around 233; started at 267, aiming for 177. That's "officially" at the top of the BMI, but evidently I have a large frame (7" wrist) and I've read in several places that with a large frame, you can add 10% to the BMI for a more accurate range, which would put 177 pretty squarely within healthy BMI.…
  • Any updates?
  • I try to have a bar of ridiculously expensive, very very good chocolate on hand (and out of the children's reach). A tiny piece of that goes a long way.
  • The "period" you get on the pill isn't a true menstrual period -- it's a withdrawal bleed from the week you're not on the hormones. When the pill was first introduced, it was taken continuously and there was no bleeding, but users felt it wasn't natural, so the week off was added to make it more palatable. A true period…
  • I'm 5'11", large frame, and my current goal is 178, just so I can be BMI-normal :) Plus it's just shy of 90lbs total loss, so maybe I'll just make it a round number and go to 177 if I can. In 9th grade I was 160, but I was 5'7" then. I don't think I'd go lower than 177 unless I still felt flabtastic, in which case it would…
  • Me, too, but especially David Tennant. To the point where I'm actually looking up fanfic, and that's when you know it's bad :P I should add Freema Agyeman -- she's awesome. Could never understand why the Doctor fancied Rose and not her character -- Martha was so fantastic.
  • I'm in the same boat. My 24s are all too big now. 22s are better, but I can still take them off without undoing the fasteners. And I don't really want to buy new clothes until I absolutely have to. I sew, so I'll probably make myself a quick elastic-based belt -- stiff belts are awful on the still-squishy belly. No good…
