  • The one I did was $50. But I'm looking into a half marathon in February that's $90!! And that's only I register by 12/11!
  • Ooo, I may have to do that Kiawah Oly next year! Sounds great! My September sprint at Huntington Beach State Park in SC is called the Long Bay Triathlon, and it was also beautiful and an easy course. Ocean swim was great, the bike was fun and fairly easy, and the run was nice.
  • Wow, that's scary! I am a sunscreen fanatic, as I burn easy and I'm very moley. I reeeealy need to get a dermatologist and be checked. I've slacked on that in the last few years.
  • Your words are so helpful, true and positive! I wish everyone would read this!
  • Yes, both races have been with serious triathletes, especially the first one. Not a lot of interest in Myrtle Beach for some reason. There were some newbies on this race, so I didn't have to be last. I'd like to do a big tri with lots of other newbies. I'd feel a lot better about myself. :)
  • Thanks everyone!
  • Ugh! I really want to do this, but can find about a million excuses! I just bough a bunch of kashi golean bars, so that's my excuse for this week. Maybe I'll start next week.....OK, I'm planning to start next week!
  • I did 2 sprints this summer, and I definitely would love to do an Oly next summer! I'll add you!
  • I was right there where you are 9 months ago. I went for it and trained for a 10k, but I chose to use Hal Higdon's novice training program for 10K (you can find it online) because it seemed a bit easier. I have done 2 10k's now, and I am planning to start training for a half marathon. Your body will get stronger! What…
  • Congrats on finishing and improving on your time! Def do C25K! That's how my journey started a year ago. And I'm about to do my second sprint tri. I've run 2 10K's too! You can do it if I can! As far as off season training, there is a lot of info online. Lots of training programs you can follow in the winter can be found…
  • I get a little worried about getting hurt, straining something or crashing my bike. The close I am to race day, the more I worry about it. I guess that keeps me from pushing to hard. And, like the more experienced guy above me said, there's really nothing you can do at this point to improve your time this weekend. You have…
  • You are seriously speedy! How freakin awesome to do so well! I know you'll nail that half IM!
  • Wow! YOu are inspiring! Thanks for the wonderful read! You look great and you are an ATHLETE!!!!
  • Awesome! I only have a hybrid as well. I am doing my second sprint in less than 2 wks and hope that my increased training in the pool pays off as I am not a strong swimmer at all. Glad you loved it!
  • Well, I must say that your report is much better than the guy from our local tri club. He was not able to finish due to severe dehydration. A girlfriend of mine finished her first one in Louisville too....So amazed by your strength!
  • Thank you again! Reading all your responses really makes me feel good. :)
  • This one is super YUM! Roasted Eggplant and Feta 3 medium eggplant (I used one big one), unpeeled and cubed 1.5 cup EVOO 1/4 cup lemon juice 1/4 cup minced red onion 3 cloves garlic minced 2 T oregano salt and pepper to taste 1# feta cheese crumbled 1/2 cup olives, pitted (Calamata) 2 bunches spinach Preheat oven 400…
  • I need to do the same thing....Give up sweets! I've tried, but have no luck. I'll do better for a while, then someone will bring cupcakes or cookies to the office, and it's down the tubes. I feel if I could do without any for a month or more that I would lose that horrible sweet tooth. Good luck!
  • Thank you SO much everyone! All your support has made me feel so much better. Glad I'm in such good company! :)
  • Amazing!!!! Definitely do the one in September! :)
  • Definitely talk with your provider, but as a midwife, I tell my patients to eat small frequent meals with lots of protein and calcium. Calories are going to depend on your weight now. If you're already overweight, you only need to gain 15 pounds during the entire pregnancy. For now you could change your MFP calorie…
  • Wow, you're amazing! I thoroughly expect to come in last for my first one this weekend! :)
  • Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
  • Just got a really good deal on Sierra Trading Post....a Zoot tri suit for $49 with shipping! Got an XL since the sizing chart that was a 12-14. Hopefully it works well. :)
  • So much good advice! One more question....I'm looking on ebay at used ones since I have limited $$$ to spend. Do they tend to fit small? I wear a 12-14 now, so I assume I would order a large. Good assumption?
  • Thanks guys! Sounds like a tri suit will be a good investment. I am planning to try more tri's in the future anyway. :)
  • I don't know what brand mine are, but I got some that are kinda just a toe cage. There are no clips. You just shove your toe in and they are not a problem to get in or out of. You don't need biking shoes with them. They were cheap and great for this novice. Got em at a local bike shop.
  • Goals for July: 1. Do open water swim in the ocean - Did it. 2. Get out and ride my bike on the road for at least 10 miles - try 14 miles :) 3. Be able to actually swim laps without stopping, at least 2 laps. - ok, I can do 1 lap without stopping....sometimes. 4. Again, losing a few pounds while keeping my muscle would be…
  • So much good advice here! I'll try to remember it all when I do my first Oly tri next year! :)
