  • Starting tomorrow! Rwarrrrrr!
  • I would say go back and follow as prescribed. There is a lot going on getting the body ready to run, and it is so tempting when you feel good and strong to push ahead. But your body is doing a lot of work in those early weeks to prepare you for longer runs. I know some people just go out, run long distances and have no…
  • I am not always the most powerful, self-confident person for myself, but when I start having these thoughts, I ask myself "Who is going to win?" Which "me?" The "little one" who keeps me small, or the "big one," who wants fun, joy, greatness, etc. Life is too short to not do what you want to do because of the thoughts you…
  • Sure! I'm starting today. You?
  • WHAT?! :) It's 9F here (in PA) with ice everywhere. It's supposed to be 33F on Saturday -- a heatwave! Good luck with your running!

  • I think you'll be fine if you're able to use a bike already. I badly broke my ankle and lower leg bones in several places and had several surgeries to put everything back together. Took years to get able to walk, but I am fine now -- no pain and can run. If you're already putting weight on it with the bike and don't need…
  • You can also check out Pavel T. Cannot recall his last name at the moment but if you search for him and kettle bells online he will turn up. He has some great DVDs that show moves. It is not the kind of DVD where you exercise along with it but, rather, gives you many ideas to create your own routine. YouTube is another…
  • Good luck! I did a similar program last year, but stopped running when it got too cold out. These kinds of programs are fantastic: I NEVER thought I'd be able to run for 30 minutes straight, but I did without any problems following the podcast. I cannot wait until it gets a little warmer so I can start up again. Until…
  • How is everyone doing with this? I am getting to about 150 swings a day (rather than the 333 I hoped to do). I'm going to have to build up, I guess. After a few days, I already feel different -- stronger and a little more firmed up.
  • Hi -- How's it going? I did 100 swings yesterday for the first time in a long time ... I found the 10,000 KB Swing Workout afterwards, and then noticed this thread here. So, count me in! I'm definitely feeling it today, especially my back, but I didn't stretch well afterwards. Today, I'm aiming for 350 swings.
  • Thanks you! I appreciate the responses.
  • Ha, yes ... I think I could also walk faster than my run when I first started ... I can tell you it does get easier! There are some other things that could make it difficult, too. I need to stretch before or my muscles feel like cement. Others will tell you it's best to stretch afterwards, but I think you have to find what…
  • Forgot to say: you'll be surprised, too, that if you keep at it that it will seem like all of a sudden it will get easier at some points. There is a lot going on when you first start -- muscles, tendons, circulations, and so on. The program slowly builds you up to being a runner. Hope this helps! Good luck!
  • My guess is that you went too fast for your first time out. The point is that it GRADUALLY builds you up to running, and the important thing is to do the intervals to build your stamina and strengthen muscles/tendons so that you can handle longer distances. It's 2 months to get to 3 miles. If you're doing half that on Day…
  • OP: I suggest looking at a website called "Mark's Daily Apple." I also highly recommend Mark Sisson's books. These are good places to start to answer any questions you may have about why do it, the theories and science behind it, etc. I also suggest going to YouTube and watching a video called "Mind Your Mitochondria,"…
  • Yes, this is how it works where I go too. I show up and am still considered a "beginner" even after several months of going 3xs/week. We practice all the moves -- even ones I've been doing for months now -- and get the right weight on things before we begin the workout. There is about 40 minutes of practice/training before…

  • I understand there are people in the internet who complain about it, but for the life of me I cannot understand CrossFit bashing. My workout today was row 1 mile, 60 burpees, row 1 mile. Two days ago it was 5 rounds of 10 pushups, 25 squats, 15 ring rows. What is the big deal?! If you can't do the entire mile, stop at 1000…

  • CrossFit has the reputation for being expensive -- it's because you are paying for the training. Classes should be small, and you should feel like the trainers are with you, especially when first starting out. Check out a few different boxes so you go to a place that feels good to you. Each has a personality. Trainers will…

  • It just cracks me up how people think the body works according to some a mathematical formula for all people, all the time in an absolutely predictable way. What is the magic #? 1200 bad? 1201 good? It cracks me up even more the people who think they are quoting science -- no matter what point of view they are arguing for…
  • If you're new to this, as you say, I bet it will all even out shortly. Participating in this online community, where getting to a specific number of calories, can make you feel like you're doing it all wrong or all right depending where you net out at the end of the day. I'd say listen to you body and I'm sure as time goes…
  • THIS. How you exercise is not your only problem here ...
  • I went to a Goodwill for the firt time in my life last week ... I got 4 pairs of new pants for under $20. I never would have thought to do this before someone on MFP suggested it. Great idea -- the pants are new and are a perfect solution. I'll return these, plus all my old, too big clothes when I need to go down another…

  • I can't tell if it is just a super-duper pedometer (with the sleep tracker). Same thing with Body Media.

  • Does the Fit Bit only measure steps taken? And then convert that into calories burned? If I were to do a weight lifting session, would it measure that calories burned from that?
in Fit Bit Comment by Bloomsday July 2012
  • But in the real world, what difference can it possibly make to someone? I just don't get the point ... You win?
  • I think the best way to figure out if these are for you is to go to Beachbody's website to see clips and read descriptions. You can check out Youtube for this too. All of these are good, but are different. Turbo Jam is a combination of martial arts/kicking boxing and involves some "dance-type" moves. P90X can CE are more…
  • Hello! I also follow The Primal Blueprint. I am feeling great. From Pennsylvania, but visited Ireland many times. I'm an Irish literature nut! Good luck!
  • This is an inaccurate description. CE is all about lifting as heavy as possible with few reps.
  • Hi -- Love the thread, and if I were you I wouldn't keep trying to explain the intention to people who cannot read or feel the need to turn this into a life lesson about loving yourself. If anyone cannot understand why you'd want to find an image of something inspiring to shoot for -- like a body or a new car or going…
  • This made me laugh out loud. You want soul destruction, come visit my freshman writing classes ...
