  • Thanks I'll give it a try.
  • Thanks guys. At the moment I don't have a pull-up bar but I do have a dip station so I want to try that first. I used to be able to do enough reps body-weight, but I am heavier and weaker than back then now :)
  • Reading a bit more it seems like the bikes with "23 built in workouts", these include workouts based on BPM and they can be tweaked for overall intensity. That's all I was really meaning - otherwise a workout I do on day 1 will be ridiculously easy 6 months later. It sounds from what you're saying too this is quite…
  • The other one I'm looking at with interest is the Kettler Sport Picos. Same basic features and price as the GX 4.4 Pro but fewer bells and whistles.
  • It doesn't really matter because your weight is just a number. If you are exercising and eating more healthily, you ARE more healthy regardless what your weight. I like to do it as I finish my daily exercise since it's a time I'm naked as I get in the shower, and generally the same time of day and not directly after eating.
  • By dead-lift do people mean lifting from the floor to over your head, or just the first half of that?
  • Why the love for squats? My thighs are the one area I'm already pretty toned/muscled from lots of cycling.
  • I wish I could add to the main sports database like I can submit food... then I'd definite add "playing with balls" ;)
  • I can create an entry "playing with balls" but what to put as calories/hour? I reckon 250 per 30min is probably close-ish, similar to other low-ish intensity stuff. I just don't want to overestimate.
  • But I know all these numbers, or close guesses. Buying a HRM isn't going to help when none of the online calculators I can see allow me to specify both e type of activity AND the heart-rate. My bike tells me my heart rate but doesn't use that in the calorie tracker... online calculators either ask me what activity (bike…
  • Yes, they would. Plain white bread can easily exceed 100 calories a slice. A regular loaf we buy is 120 so that's 250 for a simple sandwich. We have bread which is 60 a slice but it's basically only because it's half the size, not much bigger than a cracker! If you eat sandwiches, it is very hard to keep calories low (I…

  • Bread is the biggest problem IMO. You can easily be talking 350 calories for a plain bread roll/bap/bun. Butter/oil is a big issue two. Butter your roll and you could quite easily be near 500 calories before you put any fillings inside.

  • I was just about to make a similar post! I'm approaching 50% of my target weight loss and I can't see any difference - neither do I notice clothes being looser. Granted, my target is not a massive change but compared to my total weight it is quite a lot - my ticker will show you I'm trying to lose 2st from 12st. The only…
  • A roast dinner is often quoted as 1000 calories and I'm sure you can get that to 1500-2000 if you have extra helpings. Dessert, 500-1000. Given that one pint of beer is ~250 calories, as is a large glass of wine, you could very easily get another 1000 from booze. And don't forget soda! A single chocolate from a box is…
  • On the other hand, if you pick 5 different books they'll all completely contradict each other on this topic... 1)How accurate are you in your calorie counting? 2)How strict are you - 1200 every day or 1200 5 days and 2500 the other 2? 3)How vigorous are your workouts? 4)How active/sedentary is your daily life? 5)Are you…
  • Thats a good point. Going over your limit 1000 calories takes quite some doing although a few pints and a kebab after would surely achieve it... It's still quite a "safety margin".
  • What's the calories per almond? Is it as horrific as peanuts because if so I find it unlikely that enough to actually stop you being hungry wouldn't be several hundred calories? I have a bag of small salted peanuts - each about the size of a pea - and I'm sure I worked out even they are something dumb like 10kCal each!!
  • Good to hear it's not just me. I am not specifically watching my protein/sugar/salt because I know if I eat healthily they will be OK and if I eat junk they won't :) 1200 calories a day is low but note I'm only little to begin with - my healthy weight is 10st and I have 2st to lose. If I gain 300 calories from exercise,…
  • I don't think ingesting MORE acid is the answer to having excess stomach acid?
  • I never heard of Olive Garden but they do nice ones in Cafe Rouge, served with a pot of melted garlic butter for dipping. I will save them for a day when I am simply NOT counting calories at all :)
  • Have you compared the nutritional info to typical biscuits? A biscuit can have zero sugar and still be "just a biscuit". Personally I really like them, which is generally a bad sign because I find how much I like any food is proportional to how unhealthy it is :) But I do find they keep me going longer than eating a few…
  • Walking is a real cardio activity, that's why when I used to walk everywhere I was really skinny As for mowing, well if it's a ride-on mower I can see where you went wrong ;) Anyhow, I will maybe just tweak my profile accordingly from "lazy slob" to "lightly active".
  • Well. it's medically proven that standing does burn more calories than sitting, it slightly elevates your heart rate. If you stop losing weight after changing your lifestyle it doesn't mean your body can magically do it for free, it could be many other factors. I am not wanting to log this to falsely boost my exercise, but…
