  • I know what you mean, and I will have to watch that, but so far this hasn't happened. I've enjoyed the alternatives that I've tried so far but whilst they're tasty, they don't seem to have that addictive quality that bread seems to have for me. I've also found that I'm not craving junk food as much since not eating bread…
  • Thanks for all the advice and suggestions everyone, it's been very informative and I've enjoyed the discussion, feel free to keep it coming! Just to let you know, I tried the Oopsie rolls. They're like a soft, savoury meringue! Not something I would want to eat on it's own, but we tried them with burgers and they were…
  • Totally agree!
  • I don't think I have a problem with gluten, I can eat oats etc with no problem. I mainly decided to stop eating bread because I love it so much that I have absolutely no self control. If I eat 1 slice, I'm just as likely to eat 10 (ok, well maybe 10 is going a bit far, but you know what I mean!). Giving it up has made me…
  • Does anybody know what sort of cream cheese to use for Oopsie rolls? can I go for a low fat version or will that not work? Can I use something like Philadelphia that's designed for spreading and therefore quite soft, or do I need to use something like marscapone which is firmer? Or can I go for a really low fat option like…
  • I'll have a search for that, thanks. Everybody's mentioning lettuce wraps so I will try that too! Probably one of the least labour intensive of all the bread alternatives mentioned in this thread!
  • I did wonder that myself, but haven't yet tried giving up all wheat, wanted to just start with bread (baby steps and all that!). I don't eat a lot of pasta but do occasionally indulge in baked goods or crackers which contain wheat. Just giving up the bread has made a big difference, but maybe it would be even better…
  • I haven't given up anything else, I still eat brown rice and other grains. I'm just experimenting with not having bread because I'm not able to easily control how much of it I eat (i find it addictive) and I actually feel a lot better (not so sluggish and no cravings for inappropriate foods) for not eating it. Other than…
  • Great idea!
  • Ooh! I love Krisprolls! Haven't had those for years! I wonder if I could be restrained on those? I feel an experiment coming on......!
  • Yep I'm in the UK. I know bread isn't really the enemy and I do buy the better breads - never really eat the while plastic stuff! But even the good stuff is addictive (to me anyway!), and if I have one slice, I'm just as likely to have 10! No self control - it's just too good! Therefore best to lay off altogether.
  • Neither really! I've been trying to lose weight forever and never seem to be able to stick to anything or lose much weight. I've always been aware of being a bit addicted to bread and wondered if it would make a difference, so thought I would try that and then decide what else to change from there. The upside of just doing…
  • My self control is zero at the moment, so in terms of bread, I'll go cold turkey for a while and see if it makes a difference to the scales. I certainly feel better for not having it, even though, like you, I love it! I guess I'll have to see if I can reintroduce it later on and what effects that has.
  • Just Googled these - Yummo! Will definitely try them! Any particular type of cream cheese? Again, I think the US has a much wider selection! Is something like Philadelphia ok? I used that for cream cheese frosting once and it was way too watery.
  • Looking at the posts from US members, it looks like you guys have so much more choice over there about things like this. A lot of the stuff you guys mention is either not available or prohibitively expensive over here! Looks like we have some catching up to do in the UK! It's spurred me on to do some more research about…
  • Wendy - you're a harsh woman!
  • That looks amazing! I'm gonna try it! Thanks
  • they look good. not sure if they're available over here, I'll find out. We have something similar called Ryvita - maybe it's the same thing........thanks!
  • Don't know if we have those over here.... will have to investigate - thanks!
  • I'm mainly looking for a way to still have sandwiches, I enjoy toast for breakfast but am happy to have porridge or something similar instead most of the time. I have been having soups and salads a lot and they're enjoyable, but sometimes a sandwich is just more convenient!
  • I've just given up eating bread and that has really helped with cravings. I used to be craving something to eat all day without really being hungry and would then scoff down a load of toast in the evenings. Having not eaten bread for just over a week now, I'm not getting cravings so much and don't really miss the bread…
  • could be plantar fasciitis - the tendon that runs from your heel bone to the ball of your foot can get over stretched and start to pull away from your heel bone causing pain that is often worse on standing when you've been off your feet for a while. I think it's also linked to a tight achilles tendon. I had it for a long…
  • increase your intake gradually, to jump from 700 straight to 1500 is a bit too much when you're not used to it. Also take note of what foods cause the bloating and avoid them. Increase your calorie intake with healthy foods that you can tolerate.
  • That's really good (although not good for you cos you didn't get your book!). Calorie allowances aside, any cookbook/programme etc that can inspire people to eat more healthily has got to be good!
  • "I'd seriously start at 1200 until you plateau, or don't see any losses. Then up the cals by 100/150 a week until you see the results that work for you.. until the next plateau. If you end up still losing on 2100.. then good for you :D" Thanks SairahRose, I might try it, but I think I'd struggle to stick to it. When I…
  • Here's the link to the cheese sauce recipe - it's a Mac N Cheese recipe, but I just used the sauce part! http://doubletroublekitchenedition.blogspot.com/2012/01/mac-and-cheese-lite.html
  • I don't think most GPs are at all up on helping people with weight loss or even really know much about the ins and outs of it. Granted they are generalists with a lot of other stuff to do, as you say NyimaR, but given how much most of them bang on about losing weight (I get told to lose weight every time I go, no matter…
  • I totally agree that it's great to see some male role models for weight loss and the "Hairies" do it in such an engaging and humorous way that it's bound to make people feel more comfortable about trying it. I just worry that if they're encouraging people to embark on very low calorie diets that are focussed on short term…
