I like the sugar free coffee syrups (Torani, DaVinci, etc.) They are sweetened with Splenda, but I don't find them to have a heavy aftertaste.

I'm sorry things are tough for you right now Elize. I have been there... It sounds like you are taking time for some self-care this weekend, which is what you should be doing.

Finally broke into the 180s after about a week at 190-192. I have been fighting a gnawing hunger around 4-5 pm but I think it's because I eat lunch around 2-3 and I need to find something more filling that I can eat quickly. London broil on salad with blue cheese dressing has been my go-to dinner for much of the week, and…

Whoosh underway... 1.8 lbs down at this morning's weigh in. Drank a ton of water for the past 2 days, and I think that helped.

Hey Ann! ROLL TIDE! I'm 53 and just started keto and also got a TD2 diagnosis recently. Feel free to add me! Let's do this together!!

I'm only in week 3, but have not gone off plan. Weight seems to be stalled after some initial wt loss (I also badly injured my ankle last week = more sedentary than usual with a brace), but I'm believing in the WOE because my BG has been in normal range for 10 straight days!! I'm actually looking forward to my next dr…

Interesting! I have been limiting vegetables (spinach, lettuces, broccoli, asparagus, and cucumbers) because of their carb counts. I would much rather eat a huge salad with a portion of meat than meat + tiny bit of greens and my body tolerates it better.
-
@Sunny_Bunny_ can you share what a typical day for you on zero carbs looks like? I am struggling to keep under 20 g even with limited dairy and wondering how zero carb works... TIA!

How often do you blood test for ketones?

I made this chicken with chicken thighs and breasts last night and it was totally delicious. I let my family eat the baked carrots and onions in the pan while I ate some roasted asparagus. http://www.wickedstuffed.com/keto-recipes/garlicky-lebanese-chicken-thighs/

Thanks... I usually do although I am finding it difficult to balance my vegetables with other things right now due to the carb restrictions. My go-to's are usually cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, spinach and lettuces, and the carbs add up even in a salad. To be clear, I occassionally have to take a fiber supplement and that…

Because it's not a vitamin? It's a fiber supplement.

I thought they were 5 g carbs and 5 g fiber for 2, and <1 g sugar alcohol? So based on this how do I figure net carbs? http://www.gummyvites.com/en/vitafusion/Products/vitafusion-Fiber-Well-Gummies/Supplement-Facts

Thank you. That makes sense. You look great BTW - you can tell your body composition really changed in the past 4 mo.
-
Also, thanks to all who have responded... I appreciate your insights.

Thanks... that is reassuring. I have been eating keto since Monday (this is Day 6). The scale finally moved this morning (-4.8 lb) but I am pretty sure that is all water since I was pretty bloated at the start. I have 65 lb to lose :-( I re-calculated my macros here: https://www.ruled.me/keto-calculator/ Carbohydrates 8 %…

In my MFP diary, my goals are set to grams not percentage. I have not exceeded 20 g net carbs on any day and am now trying to eat less protein g too. I'm wondering now if I have calculated my macros correctly....
-
Thanks for the reassurance. I will try testing at night... I have been testing first thing in the morning. My protein is set to 37% (93 g on 1000-1200kcal/day) and I have been averaging around 70g/day. Is there anything else I should beware of? I am counting net carbs (correctly, I think? Carb g - fiber g?) Thanks!

I picked up some chicharrones this week too... the Mission hot are my favorites. A handful are perfect when I am craving something crunchy and salty!

:-) You know you live in the country when you are able to more easily get medical care for your livestock than yourself... LOL!! Or when it's easier to get replacement tires for your tractor than your car.... When your closest thing to "local politics" is having a beer with your extension officer over a beer at the grange…

Yeah, given the cost and distance I'd have to travel to a facility to have that done, that's not likely to happen in the near future, so I'll just have to use the % my trainer gave me as a guideline. We don't live near a big city so options are limited. We don't even have a hospital or uni here.
-
I recently had my BF% measured by my trainer so I used that % in my calculations.

Thank you both for your replies. Yes, I'm trying to venture into fattier meat cuts... we raise our own meats or buy/trade them with other farmers, so we have access to wonderful, healthy meats and eggs year around. I'm honestly not hungry, but my go-to snack (chicken or turkey) is very lean, so my ratios are off. We had…

It's a texture thing, not a low fat thing.... I hate the filminess. I'm not a huge fan of dairy (although I'm now managing to put whole cream in my coffee without gagging). I'll eat hard cheese in moderation, but not cream cheese or soft cheeses. I like nuts but they also have carbs. My main source of fats has been avocado…

I'm at about 43% deficit at 1200cal. I do have a problem with getting fat in me because I really detest the taste and textures of most fats... other than peanut butter! :-) I have substituted heavy cream in my coffees and add avocado and olive oil to everything. Is there a benefit of bumping my caloric intake up to 1700…

We also keep animal crackers on hand as horse treats. They can also be used as survival rations for those nights when I am too busy/stupid to grab a burrito on the way to the barn. :-)
