  • I've never been vegetarian, but we did reduce our meat meals to about three a week a few years ago, so we eat 18 meat-free meals per week (and that is also poultry and fish-free). I got a great vegetarian cookbook (no point recommending it as it is a NZ book, but check out some local ones that are recommended) and I spent…
  • I'm 5'2" and MFP started me on 1400 per day then dropped me to 1300 once I had lost 5kg. I wasn't happy on 1300, so I upped it to 1360 and that was much better for me (plus eating back half to all my exercise calories). On 1400 I was losing sometimes double my desired 1lb per week, so I think my activity level must be…
  • Well I wasn't in the gym, but yesterday I bounced out of an office feeling very full of vim and vigour and walked smack into a glass door leaving a big, smeared nose and mouth impression on the door. Was both embarrassing and painful (and the worst thing, as my DH reminded me when I told him), it's not the first time I've…
  • Yum, yum, I think this might be what I tried at a dessert night on Friday - will be trying myself now, thanks :)
  • I have lost a 3-gallon tub of super premium ice cream! Damn, I thought it was around here somewhere.
  • Sounds like me. I count calories, but because I think its easy to eat too much stodgy carbs (even in rice, pasta etc. not just cakes etc.), then I have small portions of those, but make up the calories with protein and fat. I'm not a meat for three meals kind of gal, and many days we eat vegetarian meals all day, and I…
  • I'm another digital scale lover. I just pop the jar on, zero it, then spoon it out until it says -10g. Love, love, love my peanut butter snacks.
  • Wow - awesome work! So motivating to see your pictures. Your husband looks like he has trimmed down a lot too :)
  • Teehee nice one! I've got baggy butt problems too, and most of my jeans are less than flattering around my thighs, but like you, I'm waiting a bit longer before buying new clothes. Well done, its a great problem to have.
  • My local supermarket has rice wafers in salt and vinegar flavouring and they are only 31 cals and quite a decent size round. I only tried them because they are on special (short dated, but really they are not going to go off overnight), and are about 1/3 the normal price. I've just been back and stocked up, because they…
  • I'm not a low-carber, and I eat lots of fruit (probably about 4 serves per day on average) and I'm rarely over my carbs limit, and I rarely make 60% of my sodium limit. Do you eat lots of salty meats or pre-prepared food? I'm just wondering where the sodium is coming from. I'm typically over on fibre and protein (just a…
  • Wow - awesome! You are a real inspiration!
  • AWESOME! How exciting.
  • Watching my lovely mother die far too young (60yo) from kidney cancer last year, which may have been partly attributable to a lifetime of struggling with high blood pressure. Mum and I both have/had a tendency to weight related high blood pressure, so I decided I couldn't spend the rest of my life worrying about the…
  • Woot woot! I'm also just back into my size 12 skinny jeans, and I live in NZ, and also started MFP in November! Well done, keep up the good work and you'll be at goal before you know it.
  • I find a snack between each of the three main meals and a hot drink helps keep the hunger pangs at bay. So I have breakfast around 7.30am, then morning tea (usually four prunes plus hot drink) at 10am, then lunch around 12.30, a snack mid afternoon (usually fruit and hot drink), then dinner. Because we eat dinner early…
  • Awesome, you guys look great and healthy and sound so happy! I'm hoping to holiday in the same part of the world (Great Barrier Reef) at the end of my journey, rather than the beginning, but in many ways your story rings many bells for me (currently my lowest adult weight etc.) Thanks for the inspiration!
  • Wow - you are awesome! Great job.
  • Awesome! You look great. Pics are working fine for me.
  • No, I don't do anything like that. If I was doing heaps more exercise I might, but don't feel the need for anything like that (and never have trouble exceeding my protein goals on MFP despite eating vegetarian most days.
  • WOW! Once again I am astounded at the transformations I see on here! It is SO encouraging. The funny thing is, that whenever I see after pictures like yours, I just think how well and healthy the new you looks, and how if I hadn't see the before pictures I would presume you had always been that fit. If I met you at the new…
  • I think one of the best things I have done is get an idea of how much they should be eating, and then stick to my guns around the stuff that is really going matter (starchy carb portion size etc.) Often its less than you might imagine. I quite like the fist size starchy carb portion (kids fists are pretty small), palm of…
  • Thanks Tam, thats sounds really great, and just how I want to be! I agree that you do really know when things are getting a bit tighter, so the trick is also knowing the small adjustments needed to get back on track. Your story gives me a lot of hope that it is possible to lose the weight, maintain the 'new me' and not be…
  • That is awesome! Thanks so much for your inspirational story. I'm not too far off my goal weight, but having been yo-yoing between 5 and 20kg overweight for 20 years, the thought of maintaining is both exciting and daunting! I've built a few extra kgs into my goal (i.e. lowered it, to allow myself a little buffer) because…
  • Well its certainly better for the chickens. We live in the city, so we don't have enough room for them to totally free-range, so our girls mostly eat pellets, plus a bit of garden greens like beet, spinach and lettuce . So, they probably eat a similar diet to cage or commercial free-range birds anyway. I think NZ probably…
  • That is SO interesting! I had to look up Real Liquid Egg Whites after reading your post, and found out some interesting stuff (like what they do with the yolks and shells). Info here if anyone else in interested. http://www.allwhiteseggwhites.com/faq/
  • I'd feel bad only eating the whites for the poor chooks that laid them! I see how hard those girls work to make me my eggs; sunbathing, pecking, scratching and generally amusing us, so no way could I throw away half of it. LOL I've never heard of containers of egg whites, don't think you can get them in NZ either.
  • I measure everything, mostly with digital scales. I think over time you will learn what your portion sizes look like, well I'm hoping I will anyway. When I went on a 5 day camping holiday a couple of weeks ago, I had no access to MFP, so I just did my best to eat as I have been at home (for the two months that I have been…
  • I'm loving this thread. It's so cool reading all your stories - gives me warm fuzzies.
  • We eat dinner early because of little kids, so I can't get through until morning without a snack. I have a hot drink and small piece of baking around 8.00 - 8.30pm and that keeps me going until breakfast.
