pros of eating yolks..packed full of nutrients.
the con...also packed full of cholesterol.
what i do...is i boil a bunch of eggs..and maybe eat 1 or 2 of the yolks and discard the rest and just the whites.0 -
Sometimes we do
Sometimes we don't
Pros - tastes yummy, nice color, nothing is better for dipping bacon in
Cons - high calorie cost, nothing is better for dipping bacon in
I find a frittata made with egg whites and last nights leftover grilled veggies to be a great start to the day.0 -
I used to leave the yolks in, but now i just have 6 egg whites, and toss a slice of american cheese in instead. Gets me to the protein i used to get when i had eggs, but with less calories and less cholesterol. I couldn't do just whites without the cheese though..........0

I feel bad leaving the yolk as it's full of so much goodness. So I tend to only eat full eggs and fewer of them so I don't go overboard on the cholesterol.0

"In fact, the slew of nutrients in an egg yolk is so comprehensive that a few a day would offer better insurance than a multi-vitamin. Most importantly, the yolk contains most of the nutrients in an egg.
Egg whites, on the other hand, contain far fewer nutrients. The only thing that could justify their consumption is their attachment to their companion yolk."
Egg yolk is better for you, it contains the most nutritional value, definitely eat it (unless you dislike it)0 -

no yolks here. besides the fact that they add so many calories, they are just gross.0

An egg is not an egg without the yolk. I eat lots of them, hard boiled and cold.0

I usually split it up, say I'm having three scrambled eggs... I'll do one whole egg (with yolk) and the other two just egg white. Gives it color, flavor, nutrients... but not too many calories.0
-
Not sure what it's worth but, I do.0

yolk is nutrient dense. I eat 2-4 eggs for breakfast. Sometimes if I'm doing large quantity of scrambled eggs, I'll do 6 whites, 2 eggs. The whites are good for low calorie food, but the yolks have a lot of micronutrients.0

I couldn't bring myself to buy eggs and then throw half of it away.0

I buy the containers of egg whites from the store and eggs. When I am making scrambled eggs for my daughter and I, I take 6 Tbsp of the whites (equivalent of 2 servings) and one whole egg for each of us and mix them up. It gets the nutrients and flavor, and then she doesn't whine about me feeding her "healthy food"0 -
I love eggs, yolks and all. Sofar so good.0

I don't eat yolks because I don't like them. If I did, I'd eat them. They're good for you.0

That's where the dogs come in handy. My lab salivates when I make my morning eggs. Plus their coats look amazing.
Eat the yolk. As others have mentioned, tons of nutrients. The worry about cholesterol has been shown to be false.
I do limit the amount of yolks I eat, due to the high calorie content, but I include at least one whole egg in my scrambled eggs. As mentioned, I will add a few extra egg whites for protein. I will usually use one or two whole eggs and two or three whites. I either buy the egg whites in the carton or use eggs and feed my dogs the extra yolks0 -
I never waste any of it  I only add 2 full eggs and 2 whites in my meals but my girls (Bichons) get the spare yokes over their kibble as a treat  They love it :laugh:0

Too funny, we wrote at the same time.0 -

Ha ha I see I am not the only one they sit patiently while I separate them :laugh:0 -
More than 90% of Americans are Choline deficent. Choline is a very important nutrient for brain health and it is found abundantly in egg yolks!!!0

I always eat the yolks. The yolks are packed with nutrition. Yes, they also contain quite a bit of cholesterol... But mainstream science has flip-flopped so much on the effect of various kinds of cholesterol, so I'm going to assume it's healthier for me to eat them (and all their yummy nutrients) rather than skip them. Since starting my weight loss journey, I've eaten a TON of eggs. LOL. I'm planning on having my blood drawn in a month or two to see what my cholesterol levels are doing (among other things). If all those egg yolks are causing me harm, then I'm sure I'll hear about it. If not, then I'll just keep on eating my delicious eggs *whole*. Nom.0

Oh I absolutely eat them. I've eaten egg whites a lot in the past (egg beaters) but I realized that I can easily fit whole eggs into my diet. They are higher in calories but if I had to I would sacrifice something else to have them. They taste better to me and I just feel more satisfied. They aren't bad for you so if you can afford the bit of extra calories I personally suggest doing so.0

I eat the yolks and I eat eggs often-I have 20 hens! Had my blood analyzed a few years ago and I was told that I have text book perfect cholesterol levels. I tried to eat omelets without the yolks at the beginning of my mfp journey to save the calories but it just wasn`t worth it to me as the taste was so compromised without the lovely yellow yolks! I have come across some studies that say free range chickens` yolks have a different cholesterol makeup than the eggs of chickens who are kept in cages. I also agree with those who posted that scientists are finding that the kind of cholesterol found in yolks are actually good for you. So my vote is if you like them eat them!!!!0

This for me too!!!0 -
The cholesterol in eggs does NOT translate to higher serum cholesterol - that's an old myth.
I buy containers of egg whites and will usually make my omelets/scrambled eggs using one whole egg and 3tbsp egg whites..0 -
I can't bear to throw the yolk away either, plus it's so tasty! I'm in the UK and the cartons of egg whites are really expensive over here.0
-
I usually eat them all (in the UK, so cartons of egg whites not that readily available)
The yolk has lots of good stuff, I like the taste, and frankly, I don't think 50 extra calories is a lot!
Sometimes I'll make scrambled egg with one whole and one white (and give the yolk to the dog), but I'm eating expensive omega-3 eggs at the minute, so I want all that goodness for myself!0 -
I personally eat 4 whites with 1 whole egg because it is a great way to boost my protein count without boosting the calorie count too much. I tend to have larger meals later on that take up most of my daily allotment, so I can't normally fit in a 3 whole egg omelet without going over.0
-
I eat the whole egg, I don't like the whites much and couldn't eat them unless the yolk is there too, but I never eat more than 2 eggs a week now. I generally have them poached.0
-
I'd feel bad only eating the whites for the poor chooks that laid them! I see how hard those girls work to make me my eggs; sunbathing, pecking, scratching and generally amusing us, so no way could I throw away half of it. LOL
I've never heard of containers of egg whites, don't think you can get them in NZ either.0
