Do we eat the yolk?

I love whole eggs, this is the first time I've ever just eaten the whites, and I didn't want to waste the yolk so I bought "Real Liquid Egg Whites". They're not bad at all, but I think after I finish off the carton, I'll be going back to actual eggs. Cause everything is better with yolk, ya know?0

I'd feel bad only eating the whites for the poor chooks that laid them! I see how hard those girls work to make me my eggs; sunbathing, pecking, scratching and generally amusing us, so no way could I throw away half of it. LOL
I've never heard of containers of egg whites, don't think you can get them in NZ either.
Good point on the containers. NZ has pretty strict food regulations so the stores may not carry them. If you like the yolk, eat them...I have heard that free-range eggs are better than cage, but I don't know how accurate that is.0 -

That is SO interesting! I had to look up Real Liquid Egg Whites after reading your post, and found out some interesting stuff (like what they do with the yolks and shells). Info here if anyone else in interested.

The life is in the yolk, flippin' eat it !0

I couldn't bring myself to buy eggs and then throw half of it away.
That's where the dogs come in handy. My lab salivates when I make my morning eggs. Plus their coats look amazing.
Eat the yolk. As others have mentioned, tons of nutrients. The worry about cholesterol has been shown to be false.
I do limit the amount of yolks I eat, due to the high calorie content, but I include at least one whole egg in my scrambled eggs. As mentioned, I will add a few extra egg whites for protein. I will usually use one or two whole eggs and two or three whites. I either buy the egg whites in the carton or use eggs and feed my dogs the extra yolks
Ha ha I see I am not the only one they sit patiently while I separate them
Me too!! I used to feed my dog a completely raw diet. Haven't been doing that lately but want to get started on that again. But yeah, she LOVES the yokes and her coat is shiny!!0 -
eeeeewwww on just egg whites - unless it's pavlova0

Great site! That's the product that I use, so I am glad that they don't waste the unused product.0

Well its certainly better for the chickens. We live in the city, so we don't have enough room for them to totally free-range, so our girls mostly eat pellets, plus a bit of garden greens like beet, spinach and lettuce . So, they probably eat a similar diet to cage or commercial free-range birds anyway. I think NZ probably just doesn't have the population to make a product like Real Liquid Egg Whites commercially viable. I was amazed at the products that were available when I travelled in the USA (although since coming back here I think the number of processed items in the supermarket has probably doubled or tripled.)

Egg yolks are delicious and full of numminess. Also it's saturated fat that contributes greatly to your cholesterol levels (as cholesterol is produced by your body in order to break down fats). Plus, what else would you dip your toast into??0
-
Hell yes, egg whites without the yolk are just dull. Sure they have calories, but they have lots of nutrition, I don't see the point in wasting them (honestly, I think it's a US thing - I've never met a single person in real life who would make an omelette or anything with just egg whites).
Unless of course you are making a pavlova for dessert, but then you turn the yolks into lemon butter!0 -
Normally i'd have two eggs and just eat one yellow and two whites.0
-
I usually eat two eggs per day, both the yolk and white.0
-
I eat it, so many nutrients, it tastes yummy, and its a naturally occuring fat. Plus, it keeps me nice and full and stops me snacking on far worse, manufactured fat!0

I eat a hard-boiled egg about 4 times a week and LOVE the yolk.
Just an FYI, I live in Ireland and they DO sell cartons of egg whites but they're hard to find and expensive. I couldn't be bothered. Eggs are not eggs without the yolk. If you don't want to eat the best part of an egg, maybe eat something else.0 -

I completely agree! Besides, every time I make eggs, my kids steal my whites, so I have to eat the yolks.0 -
Not eat the yolk? That's crazy talk! An egg is the perfect convenience food - all that goodness in a handy container! Your body needs fats and protein too, so why throw away the yummy stuff in the egg!
And for those of you who give the yolk to your dogs, why do you think their coat looks so shiny!0 -
I eat 2-3 eggs a day, yolks and all. Way too much good nutrition in the yolks to not eat them. Egg whites are pretty much nutritionally empty. Plus they have no flavor at all. If I'm that desperate for just protein, with no other nutrients, I'll take a scoop of whey protein.
Give me whole eggs!0 -
I eat them. I eat eggs (a boiled egg) at least once a day. Organic, free range beautiful 70 Cal perfect protein snack. Really helps keep my hunger under control. I've read the cholesterol in an egg will not raise your serum cholesterol level like once believed.
Hydrogenated oils on the other hand.......beware.0 -
Almost every morning I eat 2-3 egg whites and 2 eggs scrambled and a banana or yogurt on the side. I feel like I get full from the egg whites without sacrificing the flavor of the eggs. I am thinking about cutting it down to 1 egg and 3-4 egg whites soon. Its all about balance and taste for me.0

Yes sometimes 4 eggs a day and all of it ................0
-
Half of the time I eat the yolks and half of the time I don't. It just depends on what I feel like eating that morning!0
-
I eat 2 to 3 eggs per week and darn skippy I eat the yolk, that's the best bit!!0
