Best. Decision. Ever. After 7+ years I still find myself counting my calories and convincing myself to get to the gym. So if you think you won't have to worry about diet/exercise after surgery - that's a problem. I'm sad for those that have had a negative experience because i wouldn't trade it for the world.

I'm almost 7 years post-op and was the best thing that I've ever done for myself. Certainly not a panacea, but has made a huge difference in every aspect of my life.

dollar DASH - instead of the traditional boring dollar "dance" my cousin and his wife did a dollar DASH where there was upbeat music playing and they had like 2 minutes to "dash" around the entire reception hall getting a dollar or dollars from guests....and they were competing with one another to get the most. I've never…

This was first-hand according to the center that I go to. I asked this question at my annual follow-up just last week. They have done more than 2,000 procedures. Not sure what the "national average" is, but this proves that not everyone is cut-out, or up for the lifetime commitment this solution can provide.

Those that qualify for this surgery get to a point where “normal weight/activity” just seems out of reach. I felt like I was always on a diet and would lose 50-70lbs, but still be morbidly obese - talk about discouraging. I always told myself that if I could get to a “normal” weight, I could maintain the loss and stay…

Your 50% statistic is about right. The "mega doses of vitamins" not as accurate. I take a daily multivitamin (something most ppl could realize benefit) and a tiny pink B12. Just had my annual visit to my physician and my labs are 100% perfect! I also enjoy a glass (or two) of wine occasionally. With everything, moderation…

One of the best decisions I have ever made! 7 years and 150 lbs post op and I'm here counting my calories, exercising 4-5 days a week, benefiting from the MFP community and and training to run a marathon relay this June. That said, is what you're doing hard work? I wouldn't say that I'm working harder or less harder than…

I get in at least one good workout on Saturday or Sunday. If I don't make it to the gym I try to walk a few miles in my neighborhood. This helps get me a good buffer, or more usable calories. Try to eat smaller, high protein items throughout the day if you know you're going out to dinner, rather than a full breakfast and…

Can't wait to get some good advice for this. I have a marathon (relay) coming up in June and can rock my segment on the treadmill, but have tried 3 times to replicate on the road and holy crap! it's not working out as I'd hoped. help!

yes! even after 140 pounds.

On this journey together! I'm 7 years post-op....feel free to add me as a friend, if you want. Not always an easy journey, but so much to learn from others and share support.

At my organization we only have healthful food and snacks. This includes at meetings, when we bring in catering, or when during a staff pot luck. We used to stock our fridge with soda (diet & regular) and now offer staff and guests exclusively Vitamin Water, Sobee Water, Coffee or bottled water. Any catering and snacks are…
