As Captngordo said: "Being Hispanic and being Caucasian are not mutually exclusive. In fact, most Hispanic people are Caucasian. One references cultural/linguistic heritage, while the other is a race category."
-
Remember that you're talking about a religion which claims both "X = 1" and "X = 3".

Quibble: The word "predestined" is found in some English translations of the Bible.

August last year, only Connecticut,…

Pokarekare Ana!

Woohoo!

The U.S. Supreme Court invalidated Sec. 3 of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). That means that same-sex marriages in the 13 states that recognize them will also be recognized by the federal government. The U.S. Supreme Court also ruled that the people defending California's Prop 8 don't have the legal right to…

That map is looking more and more like this map:
-
The Prop 8 had two really bizarre alliances: Two conservatives and three liberals in the majority. Three conservatives and one liberal in the minority. Although I like the outcome, I find myself agreeing more with Kennedy's dissent on the only question they really decided: Whether anyone has standing when a state's…

It's a double victory for us Californians: Prop 8? History. DOMA? History.

Woohoo!

Edie Windsor being of course the lead plaintiff in United States vs. Windsor, the case that will hopefully overturn DOMA. With her late wife Thea Spyer:

With any luck, you'll have the end of DOMA to celebrate. Be proud, NYC!

52! I haven't been very active on MFP this year, but I'm still around from time to time. Welcome, lessbesstoad and all the rest. Now, get off my lawn!

Woohoo! Great news, 36Frieda.

Whenever I hear of a bizarre overprosecution like this, I immediately guess (a) this is somewhere in the South and (b) the defendant is black. In this case: Check and check. Thanks for links, Dragonwolf. I definitely agree that transportation planners bear some responsibility for creating this situation. I used to work on…

Ahhhh, but you've only put the dog on your ticker. You have already chosen!

Any thoughts about the Coursea AIDS class now that it's finished? I watched the lectures and did the quizzes, but I didn't participate in the discussion boards or finish any of the writing assignments.

And expanding from our experience of a supreme meaning-giving reality (God) may lead to a theological Copernican revolution in which there is nothing like what we call God.

I just realized that I was reading this statement too literally, Wineplease. Again, I think you are wasting your time trying to "prove" the existence of God. Yet, you didn't say what I thought you said, that the Bible proves the existence of God. I disagree that it's "the life of Jesus, in the Bible" that shows me that God…
-
The Bible is useless for proving his existence because it's a perfect unbroken circle. How do you know that God exists? Because the Bible tells me so. And how do you know the Bible is true? Because it's the word of God.

Gotta go for a while. Catch you in a little while. Somehow I think I've let myself open up enough to have a real conversation. Doesn't happen often and I just want you to know that I'm not ignoring you, just out of internet range!

Vive la France!
-
Oh I believe that too. But not because the Bible "proves" it.
-
Sorry. I can see how that came across as insulting. I have no doubt that this is the same God I believe in: And I also have no doubt that this is not an accurate way to describe God: It is that inaccurate way of describing God that I believe is a false image of God.
