Woohoo, Collin! Thanks for the link and thanks for doing the show.

Of course that's tame compared to the God of Deuteronomy. For some cities, God commands all the male inhabitants be killed, the women, children, and animals enslaved. For others, he commands that everything be killed: men, women, children, animals. Deuteronomy 20:12-17:

I love this: Thanks for that, UsedtobeHusky!

There is plenty of geological evidence of various local floods. There is zero geological evidence of a world-wide flood as described in Genesis.

And for what it's worth. Ezekiel 16:49, 50:

I came here to post something about why Paul told women to keep their heads covered in church, but ran across two or three other points touched on in this funny and irreverently-written page on the history of the New Testament canon: http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/014838.html#014838 And: This the part I was…

That is exactly what he calculated. A $2.75 raise from $7.25 to $10 will cost: 20 people / shift * 3 shifts/day * 8 hours/shift * 365 days/year * $2.75/hour = $481,800/year

What from the story made you assume this woman was "self-respecting"?

Not to be confused with a bartender's "long pour."…

I'm sure glad the discussion has gotten back on track.

Latest map of marriage equality. Dark green is full equality. Light green for New Mexico, where the three counties where 1/2 the population live have marriage equality as of this week. And pink is places with state-level inequality, but federal tax equality!

Woohoo! FAQs from the IRS: For married couples: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Answers-to-Frequently-Asked-Questions-for-Same-Sex-Couples For registered domestic partners: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Answers-to-Frequently-Asked-Questions-for-Registered-Domestic-Partners-and-Individuals-in-Civil-Unions

Time to update my map, a little bit anyway. As of this week, marriage equality has come to the three counties where half of New Mexicans live.

My first was in the late 1990s before they had any legal force anywhere in the US. I'm sorry to say, I don't remember who exactly it was, a couple of friends from AA, who didn't stay together long after the ceremony. :frown: My second was during the six months of California marriage equality in 2008. My husband's oldest…

Why should so-called Christians be the only ones with a right to grossly misinterpret the Bible?
-
No. The point was that this statement is complete nonsense: "the high school students these jobs are pretty much designed for."
-
The strange thing is that the Tennessee constitution itself prohibits religious tests:
-
I agree entirely. But I also see an additional irony: The judge is not even familiar with the use of the word within the religion she is attempting to establish as the state religion. The Bible refers to numerous people as "messiah," not just Jesus.
-
Shocking that people who don't have a high school diploma are ignorant.
-
Exactly. To say "I believe there is no God" requires convincing evidence that God doesn't exist. To say "I do not believe there is a God" only requires a lack of convincing evidence that God does exist.
-
Believing there is no God is an action. Not believing there is a God is a lack of action. Two completely different things. That's clear enough to me, Soldier4242.

. [I thought I had something to contribute. On second thought, I decided differently. Carry on. Nothing to see here!]

No doubt. I was just saying that Russia's statements that the law will not be enforced against foreign Olympic athletes or visitors gives the IOC an excuse to do what the IOC wants to do: NOTHING.
-
This puts it in perspective for me:
-
The Russian government is apparently giving the IOC the cover it needs to do nothing. Not that the IOC has ever been known for its high principles or bravery. "Sport is a human right," but I guess simply existing is not.
