  • I'm interested in getting started with kettlebells. Should I buy one or two? Any recommended programs or videos?

  • You could start with bodyweight exercises and then add dumbbells or barbells once you master the basic moves (squat, lunge, hip hinge, glute bridge, pushups, maybe I forgot something): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvCfGWlODKc&list=PLCFA0845638620E25…
  • @cedarghost - Thanks for your response! How long are your MRT sessions? I'm doing Maximum Capacity so mine are 16 minutes.
  • I'm trying EM2WL also. Just so you know, though, I take breaks, eat heartily and not always healthily (but I try - however I love snacks!). I think my maintenance is 2950 and I'm on reset right now. I will probably do a "light" cut of 200-250 calories to eat around 2700 once I returning to losing. I have about 92 more…
  • @Raynn1 - What's your recipe? What brand protein powder do you use?
  • The fitbit gives you an estimate of your calorie burn. It may be a bit lower or higher. One of my MFP friends loses weight when she eats at her fitbit "maintenance" level. The only way to truly know your maintenance is to eat at that level for several weeks and see if you lose or gain. Adjust by 100-200 calories and repeat…
  • Thanks for your response, Kiki! My fitbit also gives me an average daily burn of around 2500 - 2550 calories, but I'm going to do a slow reset to see if I can raise that. Once I get eating at 2500 down (I was so happy with the extra food the first two weeks that I kind of, um... overshot my calorie goal), I want to try to…
  • So, everyone's TDEE can be different, right? If your maintenance appears very different from that given by the scooby calculator, isn't it possible that your maintenance is just lower? Is it always possible to increase it with a reset? I ask because my maintenance also seems about 300 calories lower than what the…
  • So maybe I can tag my question on to this thread since I've looked and don't see the answer to my exact question anywhere. How does the metabolism reset work with the bulk/cut/maintenance cycle? Can you give me some examples? After a metabolism reset, should someone go straight into a cut or is it a bulk? How does this…
  • Try the yogurt salad dressings which are refrigerated next to the produce in the grocery store. I think some brands are 35 cal/tablespoon.
  • I saw this post last night and decided to try it. Chia seeds are not something I keep in my pantry, so I based my recipe on the one for "Fluffy Yummy Oatmeal" at http://www.skinnynevertastesogood.com/2012/01/fluffy-yummy-oatmeal.html and used ingredients that I had on hand. 2 oz. old fashioned oats 8 oz. water (not sure…
  • I love ranch dressing too. Not sure if you're in the US or not, but check out some of the yogurt ranch dressings in the veggie aisle. I like Bolthouse Farms ranch - 45 cals for 2 tbsps.
  • age: 36 height: 5' 6" current weight: 246 lbs desired rate of loss: 1 lb/wk activity level: sedentary My calories are set at 1780/day to lose 1 lb/week, but I also exercise 30-60 mins/day to earn an extra 140-280 calories/day, so I actually eat 1920-2060 on most days.
  • Update: I finished _The Unbearable Lightness of Scones_ by Alexander McCall Smith yesterday and began _Thinking in Pictures_ by Dr. Temple Grandin today.
  • 2 dogs, 1 cat (see my profile pic), used to have 2 cats but one passed away a few months ago
  • Granola bar - Nature Valley, many flavors, a little high in sugar - I like Oats and Honey My new fave - Kind bars, esp. Nut Delight (only 5 g sugar & 7 g protein)
  • @sunkisses, @lizard053 - You're right. I'm an adult now. I am going to start a new habit right now. It's called "eating until I am just satisfied."
  • Foodguage or FoodFacts for the iPhone - give you a guage reading or grade for a food that you input or scan. Take the output with a grain of salt, however, depending on your macro requirements (e.g., bananas are good for you, but high in sugar).
  • I workout at home. I use a manual treadmill for cardio. It folds up so it doesn't take up that much space when not in use. It's also less expensive to buy and no fear of a motor failing that will be expensive to fix. Check a thrift store or craigslist for a good deal on a used one. I'm also planning to buy some free…
  • To weight below 250 (new decade!). We'll see. Weigh-in day is Monday!
  • That's my exact goal. I have a lot of weight to lose (see my ticker). I welcome a few more friends, esp. those with similar goals and interests. Take a look at my profile (and blog), and if you think we have a few things in common, feel free send me a friend request.
  • I'm reading _The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency_ series by Alexander McCall Smith. I'm on the 10th book. It's entertaining, light reading.
  • I completely agree. I eat PB in moderation almost every day and I like the real stuff too. I'm partial to Smuckers Natural PB, but anything that just lists peanuts (and maybe salt) in the ingredients is okay with me. My SO bought some "Reduced Fat Smuckers PB" once and it was horrible! The texture and smell were wrong! I…
  • I like the instructor Ana Caban who does videos for Gaiam. There are also other female pilates instructors in some Gaiam videos that you may like. http://anacaban.com/ http://www.gaiam.com/
  • Also try to get rye, pumpernickel, etc. if you can. -- anything but white!
  • My OXO tongs and my dutch oven.
  • Anything plain. Nothing with flavors or fruit on bottom. Look at the number of sugar grams and pick the one that is low-fat or no-fat with the lowest amount of sugar. You can add your own fresh/frozen berries or sweeten with a teaspoon of honey or some splenda if you use that.
  • I suggest steamed broccoli with steamed chicken - no sauce, no starch, no added salt or soy sauce. Eat mostly the broccoli and drink lots of tea without sugar and water.
  • Click on My Home -- Settings -- Goals -- Change goals -- Click the radio button "Custom" and then click the "continue" button -- Make your changes and then click the "Change goals" button at the bottom of the page
