Oh well, I am pushing 52 yrs old.. I had lost 60lbs, but quit smoking and gained 30 back.. I've lost 1/2 of that gain but now menopause kicked in and laughing at me. I run 3x a week, and getting ready to run my first 10k at the end of March, and I hike / backpack all the time. I live in the PNW, (Washington State) and it's…

I was on weight watchers years ago & I lost 60lbs.. Mostly because I was eating HORRIBLE foods. I just started counting my own points, and gradually I gained a little bit back (not much). I tried going back, but #1 - the people in this town are RUDE!. I would sit in a corner all by myself at that meetings because I felt so…

Yay! Women my own age with the same struggles! I have been on a plateau for about a year. If I could count the same 5 lbs I lost and gained. I would have lost at least 100lbs. It's starting to move, a little bit.. Getting ready to start conditioning for some backpacking trips this summer. I have 15lbs left to lose. Time to…

My cousin has it. He found the meds were making him worse. He did a lot of research, and cut out all wheat, sugar, yeast. He eats meats, vegetables, and beans.. Stay away from processed foods. Like the person above said, see what helps you.

I got too nervous running in the dark at 5 a.m. before work. So I purchased a treadmill off craigs list for $50. I live in a rural neighborhood, and not a very good neighborhood. Even running with my dog didn't make me feel 100% safe. However make sure you stay in a very well lit area. And YES do carry pepper spray, some…

No you won't nee bear canisters. There are poles & lockers available and plenty of them. They make sure you don't leave your food unattended , so make sure you hang it or you will be fined. I'm will be doing the Wonderland Trail at the end of August.... perhaps we will cross paths.

Sign up for Fit Climb.....they offer a free workout schedule. It's based more on Mountaineering, however I have been using it and tweeking it for my needs. Also, I pack EVERY thing in my pack, as if I was going to take the trip, and pick a couple of hikes of the weekend that might possibly have the the same elevation gain…

They say Mountain Adams is a good first timer. Non technical. Take a good GPS . I took a wrong turn and got into a pickle. pretty much ended my journey.

I also had purchased a bag that was "15" degrees. Turns out in the united states , there is no regulations on the ratings Which almost cost me my life. REI is expensive but a good place to start with a good sleeping bag. NWhikers.net is another place to question a good bag. I have a synthetic bag from Cabela's that cost me…

I've been using it lately . Another good one to use if you have a GPS is mappingsupport.com. You can draw on a topo map the trail you want to hike and down load to GPS . FREE. Either that or good to calculate the mileage.

Today I hiked about 6.25 miles in the Mt Rainier National Park. http://youtu.be/kGBVW7Oj8MA

I really want to learn how to do this. But first I need to learn to be brave enough to come out of the tent at dark :noway: My tent is my pseudo safety wall

Thank you JoeMO. I might go back this weekend, or backpack with my friends on the Carbon Glacier? Not sure where I'm heading.

It's a little pricey , but I use the Garmin Dakota 20 . Fits in the palm of my hand, has 3D topo map. Takes alkeline batteries, which depending on how long I keep it on, the batteries usually last 2-3 days. (on a 7-8 hr day) It also takes litheum batteries, which I have not ' tried yet, but I hear they last a long time,…

Video Link . We did 9.14 miles during a dangerous heat advisory. Maybe not smart, but I really enjoyed it. Burned 4632 calories, and washed away the rest of the calories with 3 liters of water & some gator-aide. http://youtu.be/VaIq-MqWwqw

Ya I remember the last mile thinking it was never going to end.
