  • You've made a good first step by recognizing the downward spiral feeling. Your good second step was asking for help. A good third step would be a supportive group. The group I found helpful for me is TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). It is a nonprofit group that is very inexpensive and there is one in nearly every town.…
  • How to lose the last 10 pounds For accountability, I belong to TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) which is a very inexpensive volunteer club with chapters in almost every town, and I weigh in weekly to reach a weight set by my doctor. Losing the first 50 pounds was the easiest, but losing my last 2-3 pounds was the hardest. I…
  • 1/9/14 Yesterday I binged on 10 small items. They were sugar-free and low-calorie, but at work I ate all that were left in the bag. They didn't put me over my daily calories, but a binge is a binge. I have to be honest with myself so that next time I am tempted I will know that I am giving my point away to the binge…
  • 1/7/14 I participated in this contest last spring and got about 80 days with no binges. Then I took a trip and got off track. I continued to binge, but exercised more than the calories I ate, and reached my goal weight in spite of myself. Now I am trying to maintain and all I want to do is binge. I am competitive, so now I…
  • I agree with afternoons being the hard time. I have flexible work hours, so I try to schedule myself to go in around 1:00 - 8:00. Then I can get stuff done at home during the morning when overeating is less of a problem. Days off are difficult for me and you're wise to realize your disrupted routine affects your…
  • 7/5/13 Friday - Binge Monster - 3 Me - 1 I was able to resist numerous cravings yesterday by staying busy decluttering and then creating in my art studio. Without my fix, I was quite irritable and a grouch to my partner. I gave him a heads up that, while I wasn't excusing my behavior, I was letting him know that without my…
  • Me - 0 BM - 2 7/2/13 I joined one of the Spring challenges and experienced great success. I made it through my first month's challenge with 0 binges. I eventually got up to over 100 days free of bingeing, but June was a stressful month for me and I headed down the slippery slope. Now I'm struggling for food sobriety on a…
  • 3/29/13 I used to have great difficulty with sleeping when I had a very stressful job. I compounded it by staying up late so that I could binge after my husband went to bed. I have since changed jobs and live a simpler life. In addition, I've been training myself out of being a night owl. One of the perks of more sleep is…
  • 3/29/13 Me = 28 days of food sobriety BM = 0 A curious thing happened last night. Prior to the March challenge, Thursday nights have been my binge nights (and Friday and Saturday). This is because I have my accountability weigh-in and meeting early that evening. In March, I still looked forward to my food on Thursday…
  • You're kind. I figure I've spent about 30 years eating more than the average person could eat in several lifetimes. If I could have continued bingeing without gaining weight, I wouldn't have tried to stop. I have to look at it, then, that the weight gain was a blessing. Now I have to see how I can face life differently,…
  • 3/26/13 Me = 25 Binge Monster = 0 Well, I guess I've spent 3.5 weeks trying to break the habit of eating for non-hunger reasons. Some days have been harder than others, especially since I'm now trying to keep my daily calories below 1500, so my meals aren't very big. I'm eating an adequate amount of food that is good for…
  • 3/23/13 Me = 22 Binge Monster = 0 It was great to have moderation this past week. I kept under my calories and I doubled up on my exercise each day, so that I didn't have to exercise excessively on accountability day. I then showed a 3.75 pound loss. This was great after three weeks of plateauing. Patience is a real…
  • Jerry Seinfeld declared Pop Tarts the most perfect food, on a talk show. He said it's the perfect amount, "not one, not three, but two' and there are two slots in a toaster so there you go...:)
  • Generally, we know what it is we need to do for ourselves. You've taken the first steps by realizing what it is and asking for support.
  • Me - 16 Binge Monster - 0 On my journey, I am basically learning to eat single portions of items and then go do something, rather than sit there tempted to eat more. For me, I know that there are no shortcuts. For instance, I try to get all the food groups, not just my favorite snacks, into my calorie allotment. I've read…
  • Even when I'm not bingeing, my food choices are unusual. A member of another group wanted my food logging to be visible to help her, but I don't think what I eat would help others. I have to be very restrictive about what we have in the house. Right now, I have to do what's right for me. I made the goal of always logging…
  • 3/14/13 Tonight I have my accountability weigh-in. It has almost been a year since I have not shown a weight gain on my weekly, accountability weigh-ins. I have either lost or stayed the same. As I have been losing weight, I've had to come to deal with the bingeing, because the less we weigh the less we burn in exercise.…
  • That's big, that you kept it small. Not adding to it and compensating with exercise to help you feel mentally and physically better were two good choices.
  • 3/9/13 So far, I have 8 days of no bingeing. Last night, I was tempted to go over my calories. That doesn't count as a binge, but it leads to one, always. Even when I feign ignorance that it's not going to. After eating 2 servings of part of my dinner, I realized I was headed down a slippery slope. It was the night after…
  • I traveled for a weekend in January and planned my foods ahead, even allowing for restaurant eating. The planning included bringing my laptop and recording as if I were at home. I did a great job the whole weekend I was away. But on the Sunday I came back, I binged at home that night. I thought, what an idiot. If I was…
  • We all have different goals. 23 days of no bingeing would be successful for me...
  • 3/5/13 The score is: Me - 4 days of no Binge and 0 points for Binge Monster. This is BIG for me to not have had a binge over the weekend, because my accountability-weigh-in day is Thursday and I usually overeat until Monday. Then I compensate on the week days. I greatly dislike that cycle, of course. However, I am very…
  • 3/4/13 - What I've discovered on my journey is that each of us has the answer to what we need, and that others can't really give us the solution. When we share what works for us it might give others an idea that they can tweak for themselves. I'm glad you've discovered that not using sweeteners helps you. I realized that I…
  • 3/4/13 Monday - This is day 4 of the challenge and I have made it through the first 3 days with no bingeing. So it's me - 3 and Binge Monster 0. I am using distraction to keep me on track. While I was eating my legitimate, planned snack, when I got the emotional feeling that what I had prepared wasn't enough, I set the…
  • 3/2/13 I just joined yesterday and didn't know about the challenge, but fortunately 3/1 was a no-binge day for me. So: Me 1 Binge 0 This morning, I felt frustration about using our camcorder and I'm also taking a day of rest due to a cold, so frustration + boredom = desire to eat. So, I decided to go to my computer and…
  • It's great that you're working on it now, while you're young, and a reunion is a great motivator.
  • This is my 26th day of writing down what I eat on MFP. I just discovered that the very healthy chicken wrap I invented cost me over a 1000 calories because of the very innocent looking sliced almonds I added to it. Recording daily is helping me realize a lot. I also go to the local TOPS (Take off pounds sensibly) chapter…
  • I mix up chocolate skim milk. If desired, add a third spoon of chocolate mix. Also, If I drink the milk and eat a cup of dry whole grain cereal with my fingers, I get chocolate, fiber and calcium in a low-fat snack format.
