Walking downstairs wont burn much more (if any) than walking around the street.... What do you mean by how many per block? How big (distance) is the block, how fast are you walking, what is your height, weight, age etc....

I'm 48 and gained about 30 in the last year - BUT I suspect most if it was my own fault and not going through menopause...I changed from an active to sedentary job, exercised a LOT less, ate and drank a lot more - which explains the gain... Back on the wagon - not doing any other exercise than walking 10 000 steps per day…

ten pounds is not going to make a difference - not even if you do a 100 reps... Go heavy, get a good program

Uhm...no. Age IS a factor....And nothing is as simple as we would like to make it..... OP, good luck with the cancer drugs, all the best for a full recovery. I found that two things made a difference for me - I started eating lower carb and higher protein - 40p/30c/30f - and I started strength training, with shorter…

Huge difference between 5'4 and 120lbs and 5'9 and 160lbs. One burns calories according to height, weight etc, not because you are an office worker or cook.....

You asked a question, you got a lot of answers, but it was not what you wanted to hear...Good luck.

Epson salts in a hot bath, magnesium supplements (I take it for something else, but it might make a difference... Best thing for beginner soreness is to just keep moving, go for a long walk and make sure to take rest days....

Stop trying expensive junk like meal replacements, start tracking your calories, make good choices and keep moving.....

If you do this just for fitness you can mix it up any which way you want..... I do two workouts some days, trying to get 3/4 days in when possible.... I do weights early in the morning before work (4:30am) for about 30 minutes, then do another 30-40 mins of cardio at lunch - either a run, or tabata/hit dvd...

I'm sorry if you interpret my post as rude - it was meant to be honest, not rude. Maybe you should try being honest with yourself too? The fact is - I know many students with full case loads, part time jobs, (sometimes more than one job), social lives and good marks, and they still manage to find time to pack a lunch at…

I disagree - P90X is very easy to modify - pull-ups? Replace with resistance bands - easy to modify.... Same for the rest of the program....

Cardio and strength at the same time - Stronglifts is strength only....

Not sure how you expect to be a nurse (on your feet all day, turning and moving people, doing a very active job) if you don't consider any exercise.....Size (and the health issues that go with it) aside, how do you expect to have the stamina and fitness level a job like that requires? You CAN fit in 20 minutes a day, and…

So do I (and thousands of others...) Prep meals over weekends, of take a healthy choice steamer to work, plus good snacks. Move - get up every hour and fill up your water bottle. Use your breaks to go for a quick ten minute walk. We have a warehouse space with an old tv/dvd - I do tabata workouts/plyometrics/ or other…

I love P90X - did it twice and still use some of the workouts weekly...You don't need the other stuff, and P90X is only worth it if you will enjoy doing it.....I found it to be a nice mix of cardio and strength and got good results doing it and using MFP to track my food intake.....
