  • I also think it is meant as a compliment...so many posts here about people being mad that someone comments on their weight loss. Be grateful that it is not acceptable for people to say--"wow--you sure have packed on the pounds" or something like that when you were overweight. You do look amazing.
  • I can wear dangly earrings again. For years I would put some on and they just looked weird with my fat face and huge neck. I thought that it was just me getting old---nope it was just me getting fat. Now I can be the cool old broad again. (I do have purple hair--heck when you're 69 you can do anything!)
  • I picked a weight goal based on the maintenance calorie range that I could live with. That puts me still overweight-but at age 69 I'm not looking to rock a bikini or burn tons of calories in the gym. At the top of normal BMI I would be given 1360 cal. So many people say middle of healthy BMI, which would be 1240. So I am…
  • We live in the boonies in Pa. Most of my shopping is at a local farmers market or little Boyers. Our Weis and Giant are really lame so I will splurge and go to Allentown to Wegmans. When we travel south we get very very excited when we see the first PUBLIX along I77 in NC. Have window shopped in the Harris Teeter in…
  • You would be considered to be a weird American at best or a rude American at worst if you pulled out a scale to weigh your food in a restaurant (do you do this when dining out at home). That being said--enjoy yourself, this is a lifestyle change-do you plan on going out to dinner and having your scale with you for the rest…
  • OK my second NSV today. (We are old--70s) It was 26 degrees with "feels like" 19. After final clean up--and putting the bones in to make stock my husband is standing by the door with his coat on saying--well are we walking or what?? I don't know which is the greater victory... the fact that we walked--or the fact the DH…
  • I enjoyed Thanksgiving--from the traditional breakfast with cinnamon twists and apple sausage down to the big event-with lots of wine all of everything and pie. I was worried about not enjoying--eyeing portions, feeling guilty and just plain stressing--but no--it was one day of pure indulgence. Now back on track. (oh…
  • Just wait until you are facing 70---50 was great as was 60 and 65. Now approaching 70 I'm starting to think maybe I'm getting old.
  • I hate that I am now one pound from officially getting to goal weight and the thought comes to me--if only there wasn't Thanksgiving in the way I would make it by Dec 1. I AM going to enjoy Thanksgiving but that thought did enter my head and I hate it.
  • Home made navy bean and ham soup, salad, dark bread
  • Since you are close to goal think about the long term way you are going to eat. Do you intend to tighten up your logging in maintenance? Once you are at goal are you going to be worried when you are with friends and family? You say you want to lose more to get to a certain BMI number. Have you looked at what your…
  • Spaghetti carbonara with salad
  • So you are the same height as me. I'm 69 so my goal weight was based on what my maintenance calories would be. I picked 160--the middle of overweight but calories at 1400, I'm there, if I lose more yippee. Most of my younger life I was comfortable at 150, I once got down to 137 and was miserable and looked horrible. I…
  • Today I had a Red Hat event followed by a wonderful lunch. First I only ate half my sandwich and half my dessert..brought the rest home for hubby's dinner. Got home about 3--it is cold and windy but there is "weather" coming in tomorrow so even as it was getting late we did go for our two mile walk--this time the one with…
  • I have averaged 1200 calories since April 20. I do swing my calories--almost like a 5:2 IF, but when looking at my weekly totals I have been over for the week only three times--and two of those were planned diet breaks on maintenance. IF I my goal would be in the healthy range at the tippy top I would have 1340 cal per…
  • I'm 69--the red tide is the algae that is on the Gulf coast (and now other places) right now. We go to Anna Maria island and love it for a couple of months but right about March it is getting too hot. We get a chance to see the fall leaves, usually a bit of snow and the spring flowers, but to be able to be outside in the…
  • It usually is going along like normal (except we look out the window and see the water..wish that was normal). It has been years since I was aware that my weight had crept up and many many years since I made an effort to lose weight and now keep it off so that is the new normal. I guess like so many of the "I'm at goal"…
  • That is a super cool perfect outfit--and you look amazing in it (and I wish I could fit into those boots!)
  • This is so sad. I'm old--and my favorite pants are LLBean Perfect Fit Pants. They are comfy--they have pockets--they sit at my waist and not around my butt--I LOVE THEM. So a couple of months ago they had a pair online and in clearance, my others were almost worn through so I ordered my regular size. Today I finally got…
  • Thank you all-- There might be a scale in the house (i never looked). If not I think I'll join the line of geezers who use the Publix scale. I never could figure out why there was always someone stepping on the scale--now I know. Since I'm not trying to lose, just maintain I just need to keep an idea that I'm not trending…
  • Homemade chicken corn soup with homemade bread and spinach salad.
  • I picked the amount it would require to maintain as my goal weight. It is overweight but looking at my age (69+) and regular exercise I didn't want to live on 1370 cal per day for the healthy BMI range.
  • I'm only a couple of pounds from goal and I have been doing this for awhile. If the mantra for success is "it's a lifestyle change" decide what you want your lifestyle to be. For some people logging, weighing every morsel, logging every calorie burn is what they want to do for the rest of their lives, for some it is not.…
  • I took a different approach to my goal weight--I picked a TDEE that I think I can live with. At age 69 my maintenance calories at the top of healthy BMI is 1340 cals---I am old and don't want to live the rest of my life hungry. I picked a goal weight that is overweight (I'm only a couple of pounds away) because looking at…
  • CarvedTones--I get it and I also get pushing the big six-oh. While I didn't have a major weight problem when I was close to 60 I started running, weight lifting, tai chi along with other stuff. (I had always been active with horses and barn work--but lost my horse so substituted other activities). At 65 I was running 5Ks…
  • I wonder how many posters here have had friends chime in on their things that show up in the newsfeed. For example--if you were losing too fast did someone out of the blue mention it--or did you get the "good job"? If you closed out your diary and you were over a ton because of pizza and beer did someone say "better watch…
  • This is why I don't do "friends". I'm sort of picky and basically would "unfriend" a person who was that intrusive. So yes--you would come across as a know it all...who doesn't know me.
  • I am a "dump and pour" from scratch cook. I make my own stock and buy most of my food that is grown locally, including eggs, chicken and meat. I have a few recipes in the recipe builder but I know they are not going to be the same all the time. I also have some meals built. What I do is look up recipes (some of my…
  • I second the mini goals and behavior goals..I have also been here forever. be sure that your mini goals are mini. I started with---walk 20 min at least two days a week for a month. We walked more than that but the two days was very doable, then drink at least one glass of plain water a day...same thing usually did more but…
  • red wine...and we are almost to that world wide holiday--Nouveau Beaujolais Day...only 26 days, 6 hours, 59 min and 36 seconds...ooops 35 seconds...ooops 34....
